It doesn't mean your post is any less full of nonsense tho steve

No party is perfect, 'tis true, but the current British population's attitude to their politicians is heart-breakingly childish People across this globe would cut off their limbs to have a system like ours and we in our cosy lives sneer and ridicule and then complain when people try and get in to this country Running a country in a democracy with 60 million people of many different views is not easy. The current population seems to have got itself in a right old huff. Even allowing for the expenses "scandal", the Iraq war and many other things, you STILL live on the sunny side of the hill Want to name a better (on balance) democracy? Or any kind of system? Complain by all means but put some thought into it fer cryin out loud.

Bad O2 mobile connections ...in ED? (RYE AREA)
SeanMacGabhann replied to andypandy's topic in The Lounge
I'm on 02 and never have a problem wherever I am in ED Working in town at lunchtime however it all goes to pot - too many people on their break hammering the network I think 02 generally, having won the iphone contract initially, has had problems keeping up with the data demands of those users. -
speechless

daniel I think Huguenot was suggesting you were wrong-minded rather than a liar But I don't see how governments and corporations are the subject of your ire on this one - those planes in the sky are flying ever-increasing numbers of "the people" to and from places - getting them on your side will be a lot harder than any government
-
Oh I dunno, if you are already behaving like a spoilt teenager why not just go the whole hog and publish and be damned

I think the catflap fitter thread was in the Wanted section which had a purge recently of anything older than 6 months ?

Wouldn't an alternative course for the UK be to have joined the Euro and not embark on a credit boom - I dunno, maybe invest in manufacturing or something?
-
I see people disagreeing with you quids - not sure you are being "treated" in any way? People saying you have a tone of gloating or that interpretation of your posts is "distasteful" isn't as bad as you are making out surely?

Artists that you don't think get enough credit.

cate: > Why would they think it is OK to make > a new prosperous life in a place where you don't > speak the language? Hopefully the message has got > through now. Something no Briton would ever consider, right?
-
Cate ? have to question you on: ?The language issue means that a lot of Polish people are forced to work in menial lower paid jobs.? Are you really not aware that it is only in recent years (say mid 80s or so) that the Irish have managed to escape from the role of badly paid menial jobs and labourers? I don?t see any signs up in B&Bs which expressly forbid Polish people in the way that Irish people were either
-
It wasn?t information or lack of that is a problem. I don?t think you need to worry about being misinterpreted ? but nor do I think I ever will convince you. I just don?t think you have ever been in a situation (upbringing/geography) where desperate measures (with a sideorder of a gamble) are required I know I said ?if I knew how much I would be on..? I may not have come over ? but the truth is I would have because the opportunity to better that existed in England in a way it just didn?t at home. It really is a no brainer
-
I don?t want to be too harsh here but that really isn?t what crosses the mind of people who are trying to get away for a better life. Or if it does enter the equation then faith and optimism override it If I knew what I would be living on when I arrived in England I probably wouldn never have emigrated here ? doesn?t mean it wasn?t the right thing for me. When you are coming from a place with nothing (and Ireland in the 80s qualifies as close to that) then the (even minimal) chance of something better means you don?t over-worry about cost-of-living and wages. You just jump before it?s too late

Labour candidates in East Dulwich
SeanMacGabhann replied to Oliver Kempton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm not denying it's happening - I would just be more vocal with my family and friends in that camp The white working class is no longer a proletarian lump - as you know it comprises many white collar jobs as well (many of whom are the worst offenders). What has changed from when Labour used to say "We won't take you for granted" is pretty much everything. Back in "the day" the island nation had a stock of manufacturing industries which relied on what is known as "the white working class" - it just ain't like that any more. So no - Labour can't honestly say they look out for them like they used to. This doesn't mean they are thrown to the wolves tho. the BNP aren't doing "well" just because Labour have abandoned them. they are doing well because a number of prejudices are believed and stoked Show me a reason given by someone to vote BNP and it's pretty easy to point out the contradictions. Their great grandfather who talked down Moseley and co would have had a harder life but now it's understandable to vote BNP? No it isn't - the people who vote BNP, the people who would say Labour has abandoned them - I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people below them on the totem pole. They are just being selfish, lazy and bigoted. Just like people at the opposite end of the spectrum earning a fortune who threaten to bugger off if tax is raised Both are real. I get it. I'm not going "la la la la not listening". But no government will change ideas like that. |Friends, families and peers pointing out how wrong such views are MIGHT make a difference. Better that than saying "oh I do understand...." -

What policies benefit the bnp. And what is it the bnp offer? People are far too quick to shout down politicians but quite a few voters should be told they are plain wrong as well. Bnp = no excuse But but but. No. None -
If it was deleted that long ago and you've only just noticed... one COULD argue... etc etc
-
do you mean this one?
-
quite the opposite - seems to induce a dose of the cringes. But that wasn't the case 20 years ago when emigration and a lack of internet made it seem like a flagpole event

Whenever I offer anything cheap or free, I usually have multiple offers. I generally weigh up a couple of factors Were they first? What kind of poster are they? (Not "do I agree with them" - but do they do more than just barter?) Has anyone had any negative experience with them? Am I aware of a specific need - I may not know the poster but I may have read of recent unemployment etc I don't just go with a first come first served tho
-
I think everyone goes out drinking but I think they do that anyway I don't know anyone in Ireland who says Happy St Paddy's Day tho. Not that I mind anyone wishing anyone Happy St George's day..
-
Do many people bother with Paddy's day? Not sure where PC comes into it Happy St George's Day if you like
