I started this thread and I called the union bone-headed and I stand by that - tactically they chose the worst possible time But I was never four-square behind the management either - Willie Walsh is a shit who has left Aer Lingus a shadow of it's former self and is doing more than trying to force through some cost cutting measures here. If a business is on course to lose 700 odd million in a year, and a chief is being paid about... 700 million a year I think I see a way out of this problem!! Telling people on about 18k a year that their rivals are on 14k (whilst he earns 700k ish ) a year so they have to lump it is just a race to the bottom and if it doesn't affect you now it will do so sometime soon

I'm recommending lunchtime drinks as a great invention. Especially if it's your last day and all....

My first sight of the dark side david_Carnell occured on top of the 197 bus back from Norwood last year ( I know I know ) when someone had been clipping their nails behind him oooh that was a an outburst and a half effective tho -

true also - but I was more worried about me picking on one guy rather than derailing the thread -

bus journey to central london from LL

Tis true that the days I take an extra 15 minutes in bed are really not worth it as the buses become SO much more packed I don't think the solutions is more buses - the roads are plenty busy without even more buses. I just get up a bit earlier and enjoy more space and more time to get everything done. -

Has the Crystal Palace Tavern been sold?

I don't want this to turn into a thread about one guy who happened to register interest in a job - he might have a million other skills which eminantly make him qualified, plus he could be a top boke as well I'm only talking about the initial thought , when I saw the post. Someone who knows the internet well enough to have an email address and register and post on a forum knows their way around a screen. And if someone suggested to me that I PM somebody else and I couldn't find the button, in order to impress a possible employer I would keep that to myself until I found out how to do it That's all Said employer might be impressed by someone who is quick to say "I don't know how to? show me" so it could be my problem -
No need to throw toys out of the pram quids - you have a thing generally about liberal consensus but you aren't really making any useful points You called my post unconstructive - but your previous one to that was nothing but a jaundiced sneer with not much desire to progress a debate. I don't see YOU getting any abuse, certainly not to compare with the lazy stereotypes you ascribe to me and others

it's harsh, keef, but I had the same thought Look at barstaff these days - they all have to use a computer screen and know how to intuitively deal with something that may not be "obvious" on a screen If I was an employer and someone asked me for a job, and I saw no reasons given why I should employ them but noticed one why I might not? I would be looking elsewhere unless that person came up with some hefty plusses (sorry deano) -
of course, we should remember that sometimes quids likes nothing better than to take his rainproofs and head down to the riverbank with a can o' worms...

bus journey to central london from LL

time of day is crucial - with the bus lanes in operation things whizz along pretty well I'm a big advocate of bus travel - cheap and less restrictive than other forms. And the perception of crawling along Peckham or Walworth rd is sometimes compensated for by not needed to shclep around stations changing trains BUT - I would not rely on buses alone. Getting used to hopping off buses and walking where appropriate is a big part of the reason I like them - so the 176 to Tot Court Rd? Get off at Waterloo Bridge and walk through Covent Garden for example. Less time listening to tinny headphones and more time being healthy. After decades of train and tube travel, switching to buses and walking has made be MUCH more chilled when I arrive at work or get home -
I don't recall may people ever holding those countries up as models of "equality" human-rights abuses yes, and a completely different political system, but equality? We aren't even talking about the same game, much less the same ball-park here Sticking with democratically elected governments, I hear your (unspoken) point about Sweden, Canada being boring examples of what we are talking about. But that is our perspective - people who ACTUALLY live there seem to be pretty keen It's hard to imagine something like what happened (is happening) in New Orleans happening in those places. And that is to do with equality

peckhamboy put it much better than me Martin I'm not disputing the rights and wrongs of the case - I'm merely questioning why someone would start a thread and address (an absent) third party directly with "you have a nerve" It just reads a bit scarily -

fair point, but not what I was trying to convey. Anybody, from any party, trying to canvas for anything, should (in my opinion) be challenged directly, face to face, or through MPs or councillors or whatever. But to post in a direct, second-person manner is a bit passive-aggressive no? -

Personally I think anyone starting a thread on a public forum, to complain about public services, and uses the phrase " as a party you have some nerve even showing up at this end of the ward," does undermine any point The party may well have a nerver, but addressing the party "directly" on a public forum is more whining than dealing with the problem and displays some of the worst characteristics of anonymous internet forums/blogs -
Watching him on the side throughout the second half, it was fairly clear the gig was up. I think he might walk of his own volition. If it's not today then it's not long after.

I suspect you are the only person who has written to her this week probably And still she won't respond eh? tsk I know this bill has generated enormous amounts of debate and traffic - I've registered my own protest as well, but I'm not sure what kind of meaningful response you can expect from tess at this point, within a week

Just back from a weekend in Ireland in a town full of Liverpool supporters and about 90% of them were vehemently anti-Rafa as things stand They would sit me down and explain all the good things he has done, and how they blame the owners for the start of the decline and all the rest of it but ultimately, given the teamsheets stil l available to Rafa they think he has chosen badly and adopted tactics which have led to their downfall Anna - I don't see why people knocking rafa should bring you to type such angry comments. We know how you and many other supporters are loyal to him - and Wenger has had several wobbly moments in recent years and I've been loyal to him against dissenting voices - but one of the differences there is people like watching Arsenal. if you are going to adopt pragmatic tactics then you had better deliver and he hasn't. Nor is there a sense after 5 years of a new, young Liverpool team which promises much, whereas at Arsenal, that promise is self-evident. It doesn't mean Arsenal will win anything but the sense of development is there More damningly for Rafa, players such as Gerrard look as if they would crawl on broken glass to play elsewhere at the moment - there is little sense of the players supporting the manager
