  1. I don't know about elite athlete but he's a damn good one. Most of the rest of us just don't come close. We just spend teh rest of the day drinking whilst he sprints off into the distance. Probably to do the Edware Rd run or something If I remember there was some drama at the finish line whereby someon else gave him a good race but then lost it at the drinking stage due to a "glass malfunction". That might have been the year before tho. My memory is rubbish
  2. Upside down pint of Guinness fashion sense intact rosie
  3. I didn't know admin had that much power!! Oh....
  4. I'm going with quidsy and er.. Bensy on this one. I like the drinks off the strip too and will aim to be at this one
  5. dead rubber game - Arsenal will have it wrapped up by then ;-)
  6. Cathal Coughlan (Microdisney, Fatima Manions) in holding midfield - the last Cork born man with a chip on his shoulder (Roy Keane) to play in that role did pretty well there
  7. I tried it out on it's first week - which was a tad early. It was finding it's feet, half the space wasn't finished and teh weather was so grim outside it felt like being on a building site But the beer selection was good and it'll bed in just fine I'm still going to prefer Hermit's Cave before my Silk Road, but if I'm hopping off a 45 on the way home I'll be in there a few times
  8. if we are doing football/Bowie linkage - On tour in the late '70s or early 80s Bowie and his band used to sign into hotels under pseudonyms and chose Arsenal team players. I don't know why. Bowie was Pat Jennings tho...
  9. Volunteers needed for organising the drinks at the finish line I did it last year because of a knacked leg, but I'm intending to run this year
  10. Ahhhh - I remember arriving in this country in the 80s, getting a "middle class" job despite not being middle class. I had no idea what "class" was - I was also a staunch RoI and Arsenal supporter I didn't have many friends But I did have a lot of English "geezers" telling me how us Irish would be humiliated at 88, and 92 tournaments. I also remember being jeered at in a cathedral city in England as English fans tore apart an Irish stadium because the poor diddums were losing to Ireland Loooong time since England beat RoI. I have never overcome my dislike of English "geezers". Whatever rung of the ladder I find myself
  11. Not often I get to stand shoulder to shoulder with someone I respect but often disagree with.. Marmora Man I doff my cap to you
  12. Is it??! You star mr Keef Just watched district 9 this afternoon. Splendid stuff
  13. Ok. A teeny retraction here wod. I thought, as per the thread title, you were questioning gap years in general doing a bit of research you might be talking about companies like i2i? In which case your question makes more sense This being the case I apologise. Belatedly obviously but hopefully not too late
  14. Perhaps wod. Have you a link to any of these companies ? I wouldn't mind a butchers
  15. not my most diplomatic post ever, granted. But sheesh
  16. Is this really drawing room material? womanofdulwich - what is your point? is it beyond the ken of mere mortals that living in South London one's whole life isn't the sum total of everyone's ambition? That to see the vistas of China and India and Africa can cut through more emotional crap than years of living at home doing a dead end job? That to go and see these places costs money? ("where does the money go to???") Where do you f***ing think it goes to - air fares, accommodation, food, booze and drugs. Do you never do any of that "here"? Do you think your local grocers or supermarket isn't making money from you? Does your boss look at the wage bill and go "what do they need all this money for????" You quote 2k as the cost - how long is that for? If it's more than a month or two it sounds like good value in anyone's life to me
  17. http://www.humorlinks.com/humornet/files/images/ted4.jpg careful now
  18. stop it - stop it ! All this nostalgia - next thing you know I'll be listening to the first Fun Boy three album whilst drinking bottle of Ritz
  19. teh fact that you might even be checking is slightly scary woof! I'm guessing you are going tonight? Have one for me
  20. bee-limey. Just seen the posts since I mentioned I wasn't going tonight (not that my post had anything to do with what followed) Some people have been going to drinks for many years and have been going less and less as time goes by - I imagine people who have become regulars in recent months will start to ration apperances in time as well - it's just way of the world innit. Certainly no reflection on Georgia's organisational skills - the very idea!! I'm not going tonight but I fully expect to be going to the next one or soon after - have a good night everyone who is going (and if you haven't been and are thinking of going then do!)
  21. Not I tonight - probably only the 5th one ever I've missed!
  22. Why not address the question directly to the councillor in the main section pinocchio?
  23. yikes - expect the usual cynical "only twits use twitter - if I wanted to know what Gabby Logan had for breakfast " etc etc That said - what sort of info could we expect from a pub on twitter? Just offers and promotions or an insiders take on daily pub life?
  24. But if that siege mentality was true would they be putting themselves in positions where their legs are broken? I don't think so. Seems people are missing the point
  25. titch juice - you are conflating your own opinion with facts Sandperson you are indeed making sense. Although as titch points out Arsenal are no longer vulnerable to dropping points against these teams. But Wenger isn't claiming that. In fact he often claims his team has improved in that area The claim he makes is that because some teams have to get "in their faces" instead of playing "pretty football" the chances of this kind of thing happening to Arsenal increase. I think that argument has merit
