  1. NHS hospital will generally provide free treatment for acute or emergency situations. But charge a daily rate for aftercare or rehabilitation. However this may vary from region to region
  2. I second intgirl27 advice. Police will inform social services who will act in the interest of the child. In the event of domestic violence, they will also provide details of specialist agencies that the wife/partner/mother can contact
  3. I suppose I am one of the indigenous people, having lived in various parts of ED the majority of my life ( with the exception of 4 years in Forest Hill) ED has changed - nothing wrong with that generally, it is certainly more lively. However the community spirit is not as strong. I have been involved in a Residents' Association since around 1979/80 whereas our membership numbers in those days were near the 150 - 200 mark for most of the 1980's, we are lucky to get 50 members now. Even free social events do not attract people. Yet Zumba, kick boxing, dance classes, etc all events that charge a fiver or so an hour or more are over subscribed. It may be that the under 40s want different things. The local community organisations I belong to put on free events for toddlers and those of a mature age, those who do come along to events, thank us for our time as volunteers ( I still work full time) but we see the same faces. There are local organisations that need volunteers. St Christopher's Hospice shop frequently has to close early on Sundays due to lack of volunteers, The Fair Trade Centre always welcomes volunteers. My kids have always done voluntary work - the motto in our house has always been, you cannot take from society unless you have contributed to society. This is not about money but about time and caring, this also makes a good community.
  4. All depend what you call beauty products - if they are clearly unused/new - should be all right but may not take due to possible contamination.
  5. Sorry - mind was on Kingswood Estate - definitely Kingsdale.
  6. After I qualified, I did a job share for a couple of years I did 16 hours a week Mon - Weds. Weds Morning my job share partner who did 20 hours a week came in and we would do a hand over of cases that could not wait till my return the following week and also updated my boss.
  7. You need to be careful on the Council estates as most of them you will need an estates permit.
  8. Kingswood for music.
  9. When I worked for ILEA I used their nursery for my youngest. Fees were on a sliding scale and set at a percentage of gross monthly income. The first nursery was at County Hall and she went there from 4 months to about a year. I then transferred her over to the Bellenden Old School one, as not only could hubby pick her up, it gave me a chance to apply for promotion and I worked in Tower Hamlets. Both excellent, well used, long waiting lists. Took a variety of ages and income brackets. Daughter left rising 5 years to start school
  10. I remember the Parson's Cat for some reason my mob always preferred 'I love my love' - I think it was because you could be as silly as you wanted to be.
  11. It's an old-ish game which my husband's mother and aunt used to play with him as a small child ( he is now 62) Both of our girls grew up with it - we used to play it whilst out walking from Dulwich Library - St. Faith's Road when we visited his parents. Both girls had an vast vocabulary and good imaginations, we had to teach it to a couple of their school teachers to use in class.
  12. One of my clients was burgled in Sunray Avenue over the weekend. Smashed the double glazing unit and mangled the frame
  13. We keep a spare topped up Oyster card for when our 2 grandsons visit ( different times) they both live in Essex one is 17 the other nearly 20 so never had to worry about cash
  14. Gumboots Holiday Scheme ?28 per day 8 - 6 pm East Dulwich Community Centre, Darrell Road. There are more details on another thread which I put up earlier
  15. Much of the subsidence in Barry Road was due to the poor management by Southwark of the trees, many insurance companies took legal action against the council for failing to maintain the trees resulting in over growth and root damage to sewers etc. That is why the trees are cut back very severely some years. My neighbour had subsidence over 10 years ago and he ended up paying several thousands in excess payments. His insurance company got some money back from Southwark
  16. Most of the projects will requires a CRB - I forget what the new name is and they can take weeks to come through. Anyone working with children or vulnerable adults usually require one even if it is for voluntary work
  17. Just reminding everyone that now is the time to book your summer holiday clubs. Gumboots have been providing Holiday Clubs since the 1980s to local kids. Works out cheaper than a childminder
  18. My kids loved an Alphabet game - do not know what it is called but goes like this I love my love with an A because she/he is (Adorable) her/his name is (Ann/Andrew) and she/he lives in (Andover) I took her/him to dine at the sign of (the Adopted Artichoke) and we had (Anchovies) and (Apples) to eat And Arsenic to drink. The next person can either remember the A routine and add their B details or just do everything with B Kids can make up the most daft details and also very good for vocabulary. Kim's game is also good
  19. My daughter is on maternity leave from her job. baby born March. She is returning to work after the October Half term and she had to go into her HR today to confirm when she was returning to work. They will not let her return to her old position in the college she works in as they reckon that she cannot job share it, so is having to drop from a 52 week contract to a 40 week contract just to work 3 days a week. Since her works nursery will only give 52 week child care contracts, she also loses out on the nursery where she would have received a 20% fee deduction as a staff member.
  20. I have checked with Dave who runs the Gumboots Holiday Scheme ( see above for email details). The dates of the club are 28th July to 22nd August costs ?28 per day. You can sign up for as many days as you wish ( or can afford) Open for primary age pupils. Trips out, games, activities, art etc . This club is well run by experienced staff.
  21. Support all the suggestions above - emotional abuse . I am surprised that he claims the child benefit as this traditionally goes to the woman. Do you know whether he listed you as the mother on the CB application forms. Is he using the money for his gambling? If you are not seeing any of the money you may wish to contact the CH office direct
  22. Sorry to hear - I came home from work a couple of years ago and found our cat Gerry dead in the front garden, we think he was knocked on the head by a car and crawled back to the garden. I was upset to think that someone had hurt him and not bothered to stop or make enquiries as to who owned him. He had a collar and tag
  23. My residents' association did a few gardening workshops some time back and we took a van upto Covent Garden Market and purchased a large number of plants. We paid by cash
  24. My neighbour had subsidence many years ago and the roots of the tree outside his house damaged not only the foundations of the house but the sewage system as well. This was about 20 years ago and cost ?5000 to put right and took over 6 months to complete with the insurance wrangling . The insurance company also made a claim against Southwark for failing to maintain the trees in the street i.e. regular pollarding/cutting back. Southwark at that time had to pay out so much money they began their tree maintenance programme. Imagine the cost today to pay out for your house repair
  25. Gumboots After School Club run a 4 week holiday scheme at the East Dulwich Community Centre in Darrell Road.
