  1. Argh!
  2. Got to admit it was funny, though...

Some fine work from RosieH. I'll be expecting a cheque for the cleaning of my T-shirt, which now has a fine mist of red wine spilt on it.
  4. *stretches and yawns luxuriously* Hmm, being at home is niiice. I can, however, report that it's basstard cold outside, but a hot chocolate hit the spot. Mr. Moos legged it to B&Q as soon as I mentioned that it might be time to wake the baby. Hmm again. Cats remain supine. Mockers, I don't think you write guff, but I've just looked up the two books you mentioned and it seems you might have been thinking of James Ellroy... But at least it shows you know your step-brother's taste! I'm about to embark on my own doorstep: David Simon's Homicide - A Year On The Killing Streets (thank you, darling). Oh all right, I'll go and wake the baby instead. Tarnation.
  5. Mr. Moos is snoring and twitching on the sofa next to me, looking like a hound hunting rabbits in his sleep. The Moosling is snoring and twitching upstairs and looking like a blue-wrapped sausage. The cats are sleeping more gracefully on various things not designed for cats to sleep on, while various things designed for cats to sleep on are lying unused. As the only conscious member of the family, I am contemplating a stroll around LL window-shopping, since the Moos credit line is already dangerously low, and payday is an aeon away. Sorry you're having to work, Mockers. Maybe you can sneak a peek at the Harry Potter in your bag to cheer yourself up and pass the time? B)
  6. Isn't it terrible how many people get put off books by the very thing that's supposed to be making them love books! Argh. Have to take issue with you, willow and Mockers, re: HDM - I loved them and thought they were full of brilliant creative ideas, as well as the blazing anger of the theme. They are certainly children's books and should be judged so, but I think they have loads to offer adults too. I like Thomas Hardy too, but never managed to limp my way past a few chapters of the only James Joyce I've tried - Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Just really dull. Anyone out there willing to convince me otherwise?
  7. Happy (late) Birthday, Michael Palelyloitering, may your 29th year bring as many chocolate genitals as you can eat. Big kiss.
  8. Happy New Year, everyone! Jah and Belle - bless you for being the charming glass-half-full people that you are. Good on you. Best of luck to all the people who know they have Big Things coming in 2009 (buggie, Keef....) and also to those of us for whom any Big Things will be a surprise... Tony, don't be a twerp, it isn't only men who are only here because their particular sperm hit home one day. (hits upside the head, but in a friendly, ringing-in-the-new-year kind of way). Look forward to Quids' new stance promoting the great business opportunities in ED that 2009 will bring.. :-) May we all grow a little in 2009, and not just in our waistlines.
  9. The Firkin was a good pub back in the day - but I only remember the S&D post-makeover with the jelly belly rhino in the garden. And the Cambria, which is now a very nice pub* used to be a falling-down old men's boozer, where the dog playing the piano would freeze mid-note and all conversation stop when a woman walked in. Great times. *disclaimer: the sister of one of my best friends is the landlady
  10. Hey! You cheeky monsterfunster. Go away for a few days and this is what happens. Designer sunglasses indeed.

    Bad Santa

    Home-made chuffing Christmas decorations. Argh!
  12. Pas de problem, M. le Queeds, time peessed in a pub ne counts pas.
  13. Oh yes. A vat of latte and an almond pain au chocolat for breakfast. Anyone that hasn't eaten a week's worth of calories by lunchtime is missing out!
  14. Have you read, Tess, CWALD? I love that book, you really burn with rage at the unfair way that women living in poverty are treated, Hardy writes it brilliantly.
  15. Bang on, M. le Quids. Moi aussi.
  16. I've only ever successfully made one thing in my life, but I think it's a good one. (argh, sorry, huge picture)

  20. Oh, sorry, that wasn't intended as a suggestion for you specifically! :-$ Arggh...
  21. Slightly sensitive time of year to start one, but I wouldn't be punching your nose, if that's what you meant. Better to be having a try at being more loving, tolerant, peaceful, humble and kind. Oops, was I being serious again? Bad Moos.
  22. Me - at and two veg.
  23. Rowan Williams is another academic who loves to muse academically about things that actually impact people's lives. The articles you cite to me suggest a man attempting to reconcile his personal views with his responsiblity as spokesman for his Church. Anyway, my point - which you have tacitly accepted with 'silly' - is that the society and culture in which he moves (including, I hope, a great number of his congregations) would not tolerate the same kind of open homophobia that the Pope is happy to dole out. That said, I don't wish to try to undermine or minimise the very valid point you made in re: the damage these statements can make.

Telling women living in poverty across the world that God intended them to have (and probably lose) a 9th child is equally abysmal in my view.
  25. Well, yes, that too. Confused? Surely not. Simple answers for a complicated world? Um, no, that won't do. (was a response to Mockney's post)
