restless leg syndrome since pregnancies - how to relieve?
Oxalis replied to hellosailor's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It can be related to iron deficiency or anaemia - your GP can check with a blood test. -
One of these perhaps? Paper "Islands" to jump on between furniture/rooms to avoid shark infested water. Build a den. Wrap up, contrive a long walk to get a magazine and back home to read it. Race to tidy bedrooms! Dressing up race. One child could choose items for the other one to put on. Balloons to bat around? Or blow them up, release and retrieve them - the noise is usually quite entertaining too.

Another recommendation for Greg. He built a lovely alcove unit for me. He stuck to his timings/costs and cleaned up after himself. He is reliable and trustworthy, I was happy for him to be in the house whilst I was at work.

There is a toddler session in the middle of the day on Wednesdays at the Peckham pulse pool. Free car park there and buses stop almost outside. -

Waterproof bedding suggestions please!
Oxalis replied to sugarmouse's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I use this mattress protector from Argos (?14) has a terry top so not sweaty. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1274608.htm Then sheet, disposable pad and another sheet on top. Makes any changes in the night quick and if there are any leaks from the top layer the mattress is still protected. -
Recommendations for child's single bed

Warren Evans has a good range of beds. I bought a second hand, full size single low "Deco" bed for my 2yo. It is easy for her to get in/out of and not far to fall. -
I had lots of fox poo in my garden. It stopped when I started spraying Scoot fox repellent around the perimeter of the garden.

Similar thing happened to me when my daugher was 3-4 months. Turned out my thyroid had gone haywire. Might be worth getting this check if things don't improve. -

Indelible laundry pen from mothercare! My daughter's first name is short so no problem fitting it onto the label already in the clothes.

An oral antihistamine should help with itching too. Helpful with multiple bites. Piriton or something similar depending on how old your child is.

Hi Victoria, It is worth finding out exactly which tests you had done. The best indicator of whether or not post partum thyroiditis is permanent is thyroid antibody level. This test isn't usually part of the standard thyroid function test but carried out after an intial abnormal result in the standard test. High levels mean the damage is likely to be permanent, in which case treatment is needed life long (me unfortunately). About 2/3 of women with post partum thyroiditis recover after about a year and generally have undetectable levels of antibody. Some of this group may choose to be treated for a short time if their symptoms are severe. As far as I know this doesn't affect what ultimately happens. I found this website helpful http://www.thyroid.org.au/ThySoc/ThySocPPTD.html

Sorry to hear about the FB posts. They must be very upsetting for all concerned. If you haven't come accross it already you may find it helpful to read Kay Redfield Jamison's book, "An unquiet mind". She describes her experience of manic depression (her preferred name for bipolar 1) with clarity and insight. She is a professor of clinical psychology. I found it fascinating and deeply moving.

Haven't been yet but i'm taking my toddler to widmouth farm cottages this summer. You can help feed the animals in the morning, access to private beach and plenty to do close by. http://www.widmouthfarmcottages.co.uk/

Hi Hollie - hope tonight is better for you both. My daughter has had occasional night terrors since she was about 10 months old - odd sounding screaming and thrashing around about two hours after she falls asleep. She appears to be awake but doesn't respond as she normally would if she had woken up and started crying. During a night terror she carries on screaming and thrashing around for 5-10 minutes (I think, it feels a lot longer) regardless of what I do. When she was younger she would suddenly stop, close her eyes and sleep peacefully. Now she sometimes stops thrashing/crying and is awake but goes back to sleep quickly with milk/cuddles. The night terrors happen when she is over tired or has a temperature. Other family members have parasomnias. She does also have nights where she is awake (fairly happily provided she has company) for several hours for no apparent reason!
