My Guv?nor was a bit of a munter and a nutter, if you mentioned hairy Goats (he, Caligula looked like one) in his presence then you were ?brown bread?. The Ride boys are old friends, Loz the drummer is now playing with Jim Reid in the reformed The Jesus and Mary Chain, in fact they start rehearsals this week.

Loving the Bowie reference him being a local lad and all (well almost), I know that after he had that school yard fight with his best mate George Underwood (who later designed the art work for both Ziggy and Hunky Dory) which caused his paralysed eye, the 12 year old Bowie was treated at Kings College Hospital driven there from the school by his teacher who just happened to be Peter Frampton's dad, Frampton also played in the Bowie's glass spiders band.

Dulwich College was also the alma mater of Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera, before Roxy he formed a band with other former pupils called Quiet Sun who now enjoy a cult status.

Also found out that Robert Wyatt and The Soft Machine lived on Dalmore Road!

Agreed Jerk Rock doesn't do justice to Caribbean cuisine, a bit of trek but well worth it is the Trinidadian takeaway on Croxted road at the Herne Hill end, it's recently reopened under new management and it rocks. They have a very bad stereo playing very good Steel Drum music. The Roti's are great but the Doubles (Chick pea pancakes filled with curry, mint, yoghurt and other stuff) are gorgeous all smothered in Tamarind sauce, food from Trinidad tends to be more interesting than Jamaican with plenty of South Indian influences.

Went to Arbutus on Frith Street Soho last week, the proud new owner of a Michelin Star, stunning food, paid less than I have at Franklins. Now Franklins is pretty good but it ain't in the same league.

I think ED offers a reasonable choice of reasonable/good restaurants which is fine, and I wouldn?t expect much more of the area, but to go out for memorable meal, perhaps a special occasion you got to head for the centre of town (with the odd exceptions) always has been the way, always will. But that?s good, I'm not sure if I'd want to have a special occasion place bang next door to where I get my newspaper.

Off topic I know but anyway, from your previous posting I can tell that you live down my end of the street (I also received an apologetic leaflet) I've recently spotted several cars cruising our street very slowly with people with laptops trying to piggyback onto unsecured wireless networks, had one on mine till I spotted him parked up. I had assumed they were just looking for free Internet access until I saw some scare mongering documentary about Internet crooks stealing all your details. My network is now tight as a badger?s wotsit. Anyway,just thought I'd be neighbourly n all, as Police 5's Shaun Taylor would say 'Keep 'em peeled'.

Thanks to our local patron saint of home improvements East Dulwich now has it's very own dedicated film location, last year LB bought up and renovated a house across the road from her own for the specific purpose of hiring out for filming.

Dam right, the cous cous and salads definitely had it going on but I was always rather partial to their lemon tart.

The guy who owns Le Chandelier Antiquities is reopening early this year as a Chandelier/Tea shop, sounds like Grace and Favour back in the day, when they sold interesting furniture and the best tea and cakes in ED.

On this the anniversary of the death of AC/DC front man Bon Scott 19th Feb 1980 collapsed (after a big night) in a car outside 67 Overhill Road it occurred to me that East Dulwich and its environs can boast several places in Rock?n?Roll folklore.

There?s the Pulp track ?59 Lyndhurst Grove?, the title I?ve been told was a deliberate effort by Jarvis to annoy that houses residents after he attended a vile dinner party there.

Also the brilliantly talented Vivian Stanshall and Neil Innes formed the legendary Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band at 164 Rosendale Road in 1962.

Does anybody know of any other Dulwich musical landmarks?

Loads of TV commercials have been filmed in Dulwich, including Mr.Kipling (he of the exceedingly good cakes) 'Nativity Play' featuring a screaming Mary going thru an all too real birth which was filmed at St Barnabas Parish Hall in the village a couple of years ago and was pulled after receiving a record number of complaints from the great British public.
