  1. Living on Melbourne Grove I'm afraid you haven't a hope in hell of getting into either the Dulwich Village Infants' School, or Dulwich Hamlet. No chance whatsoever. A few years ago the Infants' School would have been possible but now the catchment area has been abolished, Herne Hill residents are now favoured geographically. This year, people in the top end of Trossachs Road got in at the last minute on the waiting list - but no further. I could list ten children who live in/around East Dulwich Hospital who didn't get in (to either school). Have you looked round St John's and St Clements? Or Heber?
  2. How does it survive? It was around when I was a school for God's sake. The staff are SO rude they don't bother to look up from their computer as you enter the shop. Village (Dulwich) Books is definitely worth the walk.
  3. Two fire engines but no ambulances on the scene, which is a good sign.
  4. Does anyone know what the rules are about cycling on the pavement in London? There are lots of adults who seem to do it around ED - is it allowed? Are children allowed to? What if you're cycling WITH children?
  5. We are surrounded by retailers with more than one outlet - Winkworths, Iceland, Moo two, Somerfield, East Dulwich Deli, The Bishop, Blue Mountain Cafe, Wates, GBK, Barclays, HSBC, Costcutter, Hope and Greenwood, William Hill, Budgens, Palmeston - I am too tired to continue but there are plenty more.
  6. I walk past Charter School pupils every day (they wait at a bus stop outside Dulwich Hospital - they clearly can't walk the 1km to school). They are generally rude, aggressive and often (like today) swigging from cans of beer/other booze. Not nice at all. I certainly would rather move than send my two children there when the time comes.
  7. People with huge city bonuses don't live in East Dulwich - who are you kidding? They live in Dulwich Village, Central London, Knightsbridge, South Kensington, Notting Hill (I could go on). I think you need to do a bit more research before you open anything on North Cross Road (or anywhere else for that matter).
  8. The horses moved over two (nearly three) years ago. They now reside in sunny Lewisham.
  9. I've noticed a few intrepid runners in our midst. How about getting a group of ED Forum runners together and running 10km in May? All levels of fitness very welcome. www.dulwichrun.co.uk Fastest runner wins JAGS sports club membership and fastest veteran (40+) wins fancy running shoes from Up and Running. There is also a luxury weekend away up for grabs. Register on Dulwich Run Train with a purpose, support a local event, wear matching ED Forum tee shirts and raise some money for charity. Perfect.
  10. It would be money well spent for the privilege of parking on my own street - anywhere near my house would be too much to hope for. Even better would be one car per family free, second cars have to be paid for.
  11. You could try the 'Festival Fair' on 13 May. We like to encourage local/homemade things. Download more information and an application form from Festival Fair
  12. The dropped kerbs put in by both my next door neighbours are only take up one parking width, as not all dropped kerbs are the same size. The parking has changed since I've lived in AG, it was never a problem when I first moved in so think it must have something to do with the increased popularity of Lordship Lane. Bring on the cpz.
  13. Bit ridiculous really as why does it take away two spaces? People do it so that they can park near their house when they return from Sainsburys, not to 'keep the riff raff away'. It doesn't stop thoughtless strangers blocking them in/out sometimes anyway. I've resisted the temptation myself as I think it ruins the look of the houses (and I don't really want to be that close to my car).
  14. On Saturday 19 May, a group of sponsored runners will take part in the fourth annual Dulwich Park Cystic Fibrosis Fun Run. Adults (and children 14 and over) will run 5km or 10km around Dulwich Park at 10.30am - all in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. The run is generously supported by Alleyn's School. The fastest 10K adult runner will receive a year's free membership to the fantastic JAGS Sports Club. For more information about the run and to register, see www.dulwichrun.co.uk. The fastest veteran (over 40!) man and woman, will receive a pair of state-of-the-art Saucony running shoes generously donated by East Dulwich's own running shop - Up and Running. The aim of the run is to raise as much money as possible for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and to encourage you, the person who raises the most sponsorship will win a weekend away at the fabulous luxury Bovey Castle in Devon. Blue Peter's Gethin Jones will be amongst the runners and at 12 noon, there will be a children's fun run of one mile. For a minimum donation of ?3, junior runners (under 14) will get a souvenier photo of Blue Peter's Gethin Jones (which he'll be happy to sign) and a medal at the finish. The fastest child over the finish line will also receive a year's free membership to the fantastic JAGS Sports Club. So come along, support a local event and help raise much-needed money for a great cause.
  15. I can't wait for a cpz, personally. I live in Ashbourne Grove and parking is a nightmare. We get people using the road to park if they are commuters (bus or East Dulwich station), for the Hospital and of course for the shops. Bring it on.
  16. There will be some DJ's providing chilled music by the beer tent this year - provided by Elusive Wax. Anyone who wants to apply for a pitch should go to the festival fair website we'd love to hear from you. Another cake stall would be fantastic; send in the form. Don't forget, we're all volunteers just trying to organise a day (with no money except for the sponsorship from William Rose, Push Studios, JAGS and Property In, which we've generated) for the ED community, so if you want a bash the rat/mud wrestle/pram smash up derby - great - but you need to pay for it/provide it/sort it...
  17. The crowds exceeded our expectations last year - the ED community really turned out in force. There will definitely be two bouncy castles this year! And yes, we'll use much more of the space. Chilli man has been invited, don't panic. Anyone got a splat the rat, then?
  18. Hi there. I co-organise the Dulwich Festival Fair on Goose Green, which this year is on Sunday 13 May. This year the fair is on for longer and we've got more stalls, more free children's stuff to do and live music as well as Blue Mountain doing the food (but bigger and better) and EDT providing the beer tent. Did anyone come last year? What would you like to see at this year's Fair? Festival Fair
