  1. How am I being pompous? You're the one bashing liberals for some perceived elephant that really isn't in this room at all. I'm just tired of the same old mantra. You want to discuss Islam go right ahead, there's no safe liberal conspiracy of silence and fear.
  2. You really are tiresome sometimes Quids. This isn't a thread bashing Christianity, it's specifically bashing the institution of the catholic church. Islam doesn't have an equivalent structure, however we've seen many a time the medieval, repressive tendencies of many interpretations in places like Iran, Saudia Arabia etc, frequently lambasted on these pages. Don't be such a twat!
  3. Do you guys really hate the French? Seems a smidgeon ungrateful as you'd have lost the war of independence without them. THat whole statue woman thingy in New York is supposed to keep that fresh in your minds. Clearly money they'd have better spent on cheese and mistresses ;-) The whole Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey is fun, and god knows we like doing the froggies down, but there's not one of us wouldn't have lost that war against the Bosch in 1940. First time you chaps met them in Tunisia, a mere small expeditionary force wirth terminally poor supply lines exhausted after 2 years solid fighting, they still mananged to hand your chaps arses to you on a platter. We luckily had the channel to spare our blushes. Anyhoo, we pretend to hate those curs?d beret wearers because we've been fighting them for a thousand years, and basically because we're jealous of their casual affairs and great food and even better wine, but we'd never let them know that!!! The Barry Barry Road Race is a long established institution with glamour to compete with your average royal wedding!! You should get your shot and pint necking skills in good order for this year's race.
  4. It has served them well for over a millennium Ted, they've outlasted kingdoms, empires, existential philosophical shifts, several isms and, well, pretty much everything that's been thrown at them. If it ain't broke....
  5. Definition of MAIL READER Noun 1 : one demonstrating righteous indignation at the mere mention of paedophilia out of all proportion to its context 2 [chiefly british] : worse than a child abuser in the certain areas of south east london
  6. Conjugate the verb 'To Project' I am independently minded. You are incapable of rational thought. They are victims of social peer pressure.
  7. It was at the top of Lordship Lane. I had no idea it had gone the way of an East Dulwich Daffodil, so inconspicuous was its presence!! Never again shall I partake of it's prawn cocktail starter and Angel Delight from the sweet trolley :(
  8. Are you trying to say that Le Moulin's sauces were actually medicinal or that they produced their food through some sort of indentured labour? Yours 'muddled from middleclassia'.
  9. "The Visitators also encountered a certain tendency, not dominant but nevertheless fairly widespread among priests, religious and laity, to hold theological opinions at variance with the teachings of the Magisterium" I love that bit. I've tried to tell La Piba that The Catholic Church doesn't hold with her having her own interpretations, that that is effectively called 'being a protestant', but she still thinks she can square the circle somehow!!
  10. Jenny Jones - Non! http://www.greenparty.org.uk/assets/images/people/jenny%20jones%20croppedportraitsmall.jpg Sian Berry - Now vous etes talking! http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Politics/Pix/pictures/2008/02/07/berry460.jpg
  11. I think he's describing the comparative esteem that mail readers are held in these parts, and may have been having a pop at the pitchfork thread in the main section rather than at you jelly.
  12. Bit early for the stella isn't it quids?
  13. are you two lying down some sort of marker? Right......
  14. Is that cute girl with the sexy-yet-common-as-muck-voice running for mayor again? I'll vote for her *rubs thighs disturbingly*
  15. In which case let me be the first* second to extend both an apology and a welcome on behalf of the lupinely suspicious, and wish you all the best for your transatlantic sojourn!! *that's what happens when the cash feeds go kaput in the morning.
  16. Indeed, I love cashing in on others' misery. I have an entire half-finished ghost estate all for myself where I have imported sorry looking palm trees scattered around so I can reenact the Battle of Beckton Gas Works Hue from Full Metal Jacket every weekend. It's brilliant!!!
  17. I know, I know, property theft etc. You weave your own peruvian hats from the finest home spun guinea pig farm in your back garden don't you ;-P
  18. I know you love a pop at Otta, but I think his tiny little mind is capable, in some stunded proto-fashion, of insights normally exclusive to such visionary colossi as yourself, such as: "Basically, the Olympics will attract tourists to London and they will shop in areas like the West End, Covent Garden, Camden Market"
  19. Sir Benfro's Brilliant Balloons for iOS. Just lovely. The concept? I dunno, sort of Lord Hornimann exploring the dark continent by light filled balloon as envisaged by Terry Gilliam. Simple gaming (touch screen for up, let go for down), but so beautifully presented with a wonderful soundtrack that's so good that the game-loathing La Piba actually loves putting on the headphones as I play the game. For 69p worth a try.
  20. You think the provinces are bad, how about the ex colonies?! I keep making the mistake of ordering beef; when will I learn after countless experiences of beef of exceptional quality going into the oven only to emerge a withered, leather sock. Dublin has places equal to London's admitedly, but it's a two hour drive plus no booze unless forking out for a pricey hotel. There are no trains! You lot in E Sussex and Kent have it easy. Still, the Guinness is better. The lager is worse and they don't do potable bitter or ale, but you know, the Guinness is better. That's perhaps a tad unfair, I've eaten in excellent places scattered around the country, it's just that none of them will be any where near me :(
  21. I'm sure he'd say you can come and visit and stay as long as you want whenever you fancy it!!
  22. Food and food. Off to rural Ireland where deeply suspect Chinese take-away is considered the height of sophistication. I will miss more places than I care to think about. tbh it's more a London thing than an ED thing per se. I'll miss the good folk, but seeing as most of my mates have them have done the Frank and returned to the home counties there's only one or two left to miss! Good ale, though that's an England thing really isn't it. Errrrm. Inside 72...oh. The CPT, had some great times in there....oh. Sunshine?
  23. "I blame it all on St.Patrick being Welsh." eh!?!?
  24. Shall we call it liberal fascism?
