  1. I'm afraid SF that you've so far persuaded noone with your vague pronouncements of doom and tendencious daily mail articles. Care to elaborate with some concrete arguments?
  2. Spanish beauracracy has always been awash with bizarre legalese anyway, but here we simply see the problems of a linguistic issue, not a social one. The Spanish word for parents 'padres' means literally 'fathers'. If you have the possibility of there being two females then suddenly the label is potentially misleading. Someone has taken the pedantic route here as collective nouns default to the masculine anyway, but don't rule out the presnce of both genders, hence padres means mum and dad despite being literally 'dads' Thus ni?os can be a mixed group, though ni?as would denote specifically girls. They've decided that rather than allow padres to be gender neutral, or introduce madres into documents (madres would normally mean a group of mothers rather than two female parents of a child) they've settled upon a dry, if rather cumbersome compromise. You also have to remember that Castellano has a governing body, a bit like French, there to protect the language, and being the fusty conservative bunch they are would almost certainly have had a say in this clumsiness. English of course is by and large a gender neutral language and in this case 'parents' will happily suffice for a same sex partnership.
  3. I'm not sure Daily Mail scare-mongering articles based upon an individual's hypothetical musings are actually worthy of comment are they?

  5. Think again, I went to my mum's same sex pagan wedding. Of course the state wouldn't recognise but they tied the civil knot four years ago. THey'd like to be able to call themselves married officially even though they obviously consider themselves so, it's somewhat galling for the state to say 'oh no, marriage is a seperate thing' and they're looking heartily forward to its change of heart on the matter. Here's an article for 2010 which showed same sex partnership in good health rising to 6400 odd that year, whilst marriage decreased to 231000 odd. About 3% of the numbers then, which sounds about right to me. eta link http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2010/dec/21/marriage-gay-rights-civil-partnerships

JFK? How pass?. I thought that was finished as the conspiracy nuts' onanisitc obsession du jour the moment Oliver Stone bored us all senseless with it. Besides, this one http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51yr8QZ6iLL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU02_.jpg was waaaaay better.
  7. How on earth does that back up your argument, unless you're claiming that those married at registry offices aren't really marriages?
  8. this rather suggests that marriage is largely the purview of the state rather than religious bodies. http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/59050000/gif/_59050593_marriage_gr_2_464.gif Silverfox will note that 'other' is, to put it mildly, a marginal issue.
  9. Folkettaboutit.
  10. Photos. I want photos!!
  11. Is that a wolf-whistle there *Bob*?
  12. Aaaah, San Francisco! The place or the bloke?

  14. My team's better than your team. Your team has divers, my team is pristine. I care about the SPL WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE SPL. This manger's shit. No that manager's shit. Liverpool, liverpool yaaaawn yaaaawn Man U Man U chelsea even bigger yaaaaawn Intersperse all of the above with derogatory refrences (spuds manure chelski etc) ...rinse and repeat for 400 pages * 3 threads
  15. On the contrary, it's pretty much the first port of call for any historian. I mean look a that Alexander the Great character. Boffed blokes and his empire crumbled. Cast iron (no pun intended, ok just a bit) causality noone can argue with. Then there was, errrrmmmmmmmm, errrr........Michael Portillo, partook of some man love once or twice (well he went to public school so I suppose it should go without saying) and lost his seat. There, QED. Not right up there in the eschatology meter I'll grant you, but they'll do.
  16. A comprehensive article on the LRA and current US strategy here, that doesn't get bogged down with all that invisible children stuff.
  17. Ah yes, good shout Otta, yes invaluable. There are a few of those about as the API is available to all. I've tried several and after a shaky start I'd say Buscount is probably the most reliable and stable of them. I've never got the national rail app even though I use the trains daily, it's a fiver ins't it?

Yeah I loved that woodrot. I love the way different conspiracy theories end up partially supporting each other, partially contradicting each other, some get conflated and it all turns into a mish-mash of "they..." and "our eyes are open, you people are willingly blind to the truth" but you can't even get a grain of coherence out of them. So here we have the greatest covert operation in history committed by mossad to manipulate the States. These 'superspies' are then caught dancing in celebration (way to go superspies) and then accidentally let slip key information alerting the authorities who, it would seem on inadvertantly discovering the greatest crime ever committed in the US (well, obviously conventiently ignoring genocide of the natives for the moment), decide to collude with them and let them go with a "try and keep it under your hat and ease up on the dancing will you chaps, apparently the president wants a war or something, job well done!". Genius!! How this fits in with controlled demolition and thermite in the dust we'll never know. Maybe it was Goldman Sachs employees doing a whole parallel conspiracy to force the market and make a killing on short-selling or something *guzzles pertrol to make it make sense glug glug* Or is that what they WANT to make me think?

vampire squids? Cool, I'd not heard that one. Is this vampire squids == jews or vampire squids == vampire squids?
  20. TFL says 'late 2012'. Judging by progress on Denmark Hill I'd suggest they got the final digit wrong there.
  21. True, true. In fact both instances were staggering examples of the hypocrisy of society. As long as it's done behind closed doors then society accepts it as an open secret, in fact when it comes to entertainers, historically often cherished them for it. (as long as it's all implied camp, heaven help you if the local constable found you actually fulfilling your sexual imperative!!!) Dare to be too brazen about it and you were finished.
  22. Tori Spelling, she was really poor!

Fields of the Nephilim > Bauhaus Northampton counts as up north yeah? I mean, it's got the word north in it.
  24. There's very little I'd consider 'must have'. The SwiftKey keyboard I was happy to pay for, far and away the best, but ships as standard on some android phones (HTC?). Quick Note i use as my 'jot-stuff-down app. Barring that the only ones I use regularly are the ubiquitous facebook app and a few of the photography ones (vignette, retro camera, lomo, hdr+ etc)
