  1. After reading the above post I contacted Zoltan re my printer which had stopped working. Zoltan advised that the printer was broken (it was 12 years old!) and suggested a new one, which I ordered and he installed for me. He is very knowledgeable about anything techy and was most helpful as I also want to upgrade my software and possibly get a new laptop. Zoltan was punctual, helpful and very pleasant. I will certainly be calling on his assistance again and would recommend him.
  2. If there are any Councillors who check this Forum I would like to suggest they pursue a traffic camera for the stretch of road leading up from Wood Vale to the junction of Forest Hill Road and Colyton Road. A friend of mine telephoned me this morning to advise that a neighbour's cat had been run over and killed by a speeding motorist who didn't stop after he/she had hit the cat, If it hadn't been a cat it could have been a human being ..... it is a fast stretch of road that is a serious accident waiting to happen. There is a traffic camera outside the Harris Academy and that works very well with traffic slowing down accordingly, The stretch of road I am referring to above is quite long and straight and there are a lot of reckless drivers who speed up and attempt to reach the lights before they change to red. If not a traffic camera then perhaps a zebra crossing half way down, which might help to slow the traffic. Just as an aside, this morning on my way back from the co-op the lights had turned red and I was just about to step out when a cyclist whizzed across in front of me. A traffic camera wouldn't help in this instance, but I do wish cyclists would obey the rules.
  3. Please call The Fox Project on 01892 731565. they are usually much more responsive than the RSPCA as deal only with foxes.
  4. Have just had a young man knock on the door saying he was the gardener. I said no not at this address and he quickly looked at his mobile and said oh sorry wrong address. I should have asked him what address he was looking for but didn't think quickly enough. He and his partner (an elderly chap) then moved off in their unmarked white van. I should have taken the number plate but again didn't think quickly enough. It has disconcerted me somewhat and I wonder if anyone out there has had a similar experience. Before anyone out there starts accusing me of all sorts of bias (which unfortunately I find happens regularly on the Forum) I am just asking the question. Probably the chap had genuinely got the wrong address but I thought I would mention it.

Has anyone ever used this car hire company? It seems they have a licence with Southwark Council and can park in residential streets re pick up/drop off (which apparently must be in the same street) which means one of their cars could be sitting outside your house for ages before anyone picks it up on hire. I know someone who this happened to but apparently there was nothing could be done about it. Bad enough trying to park in front of one's own house these days without the same car being there for days on end. I know that none of us have the "right" to park our cars in front of our own houses, but it is jolly useful when coming back from Sainsburys with the weekly shop! Just thought I would see if any ED residents had experienced the same problem as my friend.
  6. I have read all of the reviews here and not sure we are talking about the same "Gala Event"; the event in Peckham Rye Park took place on the Sunday and Monday and not the Saturday. I live very close to the park and love gardening but there was no joy in being in the garden on that weekend. I managed to cope with the constant music on the Sunday but by Monday afternoon could no longer stand the noise. I love music as much as the next person but not for 12 hours at a stretch on two days running. I voted against the Gala event and really really hope it never takes place again in PRP. It's bad enough that the park is not being maintained as well as it used to be and this event has certainly not helped. No doubt I shall receive a tirade from several people out there - the Forum is becoming much like twitter where you can't just voice an opinion without someone having a go at you. And no I don't do Twitter nor Facebook, I am a pensioner and I still have a right to my opinion. Thank you and goodnight.
  7. I totally agree with you Sue; as a keen gardener myself I have really noticed the lack of maintenance over the past few months. It had occurred to me to pop into the park office and enquire as to the reason but I suspect it is because they no longer have their head gardener - the lady was always out in the park doing something and whilst she was around all was well. Very sad that is no longer the case.
  8. I would like to add my recommendation for Jon Smith. Very nice and friendly chap who did a very good job in cleaning our very dirty windows! Jon was very thorough and we shall definitely use him again.
  9. I recently had quite a bit of work done in my house - all general type stuff, including decorating both inside and out, electrical work, window repairs, new garden fencing, patio refurb, etc, etc. I was very happy with the results. Mark is one of those all-rounders, reasonable rates, and a very pleasant chap to have around. He lives locally and I know gets most of his work by recommendation, but I did mention that I would put his name and number here on the Forum. Mark Dignan on 07534 012988.
  10. Dear Lucy, we also live at the Peckham Park end of Dovedale Road; you may be referring to one of our cats who is a tabby/tortie - effectively very dark with splashes of ginger. She is very thin but I assure you she is fine - she is 13 years old and eats on demand but never puts on weight. We have three cats - two ginger/white and as mentioned above - one of the ginger boys is the brother of the tortoiseshell and also very thin - just their age I think. All very well looked after and loved.
  11. I would second this. Hamish Lodge helped us regarding an overgrown leylandii hedge in a neighbouring garden. I shall also be asking Hamish to do some further work on some trees and shrubs in my garden. A most pleasant chap, very knowledgeable and helpful.
  12. So terribly sorry to read of Bill's passing. We bought our tv and tv accessories from him some years ago. He was so pleasant to deal with and whenever we had a problem with the tv he would happily come around and sort it out for us. He will be much missed. Sharon and Miguel
  13. Does anybody know of a good clock repairer in the area please? Thank you.
  14. Thank you to both responses received to my post - I shall look into both. Many thanks.
  15. Can anybody please recommend a safe and cheap way of phoning to Australia via a BT landline, without having to set up an account? There seem to be a great many companies that offer this service but how do choose?! Thank you.
