  1. We used Mark at Torcal as recommended via this forum but we wouldn't recommend. When things went wrong with our builders and we needed him to come urgently to assess our site he wasn't interested and said he couldn't attend for 2 weeks. We were in a dire situation and he completely let us down. We ended up getting a new structural engineer to come in which cost us again.
  2. We also used Steve last week to do some planting for us in Herne Hill - really good, hard worker, reasonable. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
  3. Hi I'm looking for someone to make me a bench cushion for some built in seating. Foam cushion covered with material and preferably with a zip. Happy to hear any recommendations. Thanks
  4. Joel has helped us out recently with a bit of heavy lifting and loading and is due to be helping us again in the coming days. He's friendly, reliable and hard working and I'm really glad we found him via the forum. Feel free to contact me if you would like more info.
  5. Just to follow up on this. We used Godden Structural off the back of the above recommendation as I had also found their details through a general google search. They are completely thorough and carry out high quality structural work. We're on a site with lots of other builders and they were all impressed with the steel work David and Paul carried out. They delivered exactly what we needed in a difficult situation and I would use them again without hesitation. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
  6. Hello I'm after a recommendation for a company that can undertake some steel/structural work on a project we have at the moment. If you have had any work done recently or used anyone I would be grateful for details. Many thanks
  7. Hello I know this might be a long shot - I wonder if there is anyone who might be willing to interpret a discussion for me that I need to have tomorrow morning. It would involve attending our flat which is in Herne Hill where I need to have a conversation with someone who speaks Polish and it's important for us both to understand what each other is saying. If so please PM me and I can give more details. I am be willing to discuss an incentive such as wine/cash! I think it would need to be around 9.30am. Thanks
  8. Hello Just wondered if anyone has had their windows replaced by Pearson Glazing? We're looking at quotes at the moment for aluminium windows and always interested to hear people's experiences. Please PM me. Thanks
  9. I need an electric shower replaced in a flat in Sidcup. I have the shower just looking for someone to fit a.s,a.p at a reasonable price and take the old one down. Thanks
  10. Just wondered if there were any new mums in HH. I had my baby a few months ago and meet up with people in ED and Peckham on a regular basis but wondering if anyone closer to home who's up for meeting up and cinema trips.
  11. Hello Looking for recommendations for glazing company that fits thin framed alumninum double glazing. Large project coming up and need to get some quotes in. Thanks
  12. Hi Adam We have the same in our flat due to a number of factors, sounds like condensation/ventilation. . I've purchased a dehumidifier which has helped greatly but also - and even on really cold days - I open a window slightly for a period of time to create some air flow. That and regular wiping down of the area. From the sounds of it - I don't think you need a damp expert. Hope that helps a bit.
  13. We have obtained planning permission to extend our flat and are now looking for someone/company to take the basic plans and provide detailed plans and take it forward from there to the finished extension. We're looking to start work in March 2014. Perhaps we just need a building company who can draw up the details for us and take it forward? Any recommendations gratefully recived. I should point out it's not a Victorian property and the building is somewhat unique (solid concrete construction). Thanks in advance
  14. Hello I have a large sycamore in my back garden that I'd like to take down (planning permission already permitted), however, it's quite large and quite close to our building so I'd like to get some professional advice before I instruct someone to take it down in case it might cause heave. If you have a recommendation would be grateful. Many thanks
  15. Hi sarah - was just about to post that yes - venue has changed - it's now Blackbird Bakery on Grove Vale - same time 1500. I didn't organise this one but am heading down there so hope to meet you then. Nicolax
  16. Hi all A couple of meet ups planned during the day this week for anyone who's about. Weds 11th sept 1pm at Petitou, choumert rd peckham Thurs 12th - 1500 at blue mountain cafe, east dulwich. Details are on the Facebook events page too.
  17. I agree with all the above about chemical treatments having had a 'damp problem' for two years (wrongly treated with chemical treatment) I finally took matters into my own hands and removed some boxing in of a pipe in our flat - everything pointed to a problem from there but none of the 'experts' could be bothered to check it out.....what do you know - a leaking soil pipe which had been slowly trickling away for years! 9 times out of 10 there are other reasons for damp and a dehumidifier and a bit of ventilation can work wonders along with a bit of investigation work - high ground levels, pipes, leaking gutters, adjoining properties etc as mentioned above. Going to someone like Keith Gardener would have saved me a world of frustration a long time ago!
  18. I'm after a man with a van to take a double bed (mattress & base) from Herne Hill to Orpington on Monday. Shouldn't take more than an hour but I can't lift anything. Please pm me if you can cover / with a quote Thanks
  19. There are a couple of meet ups planned in the next few weeks on the facebook group if anyone is off/already on maternity leave - Friday 23rd August - 1400 - at Le Chandelier, East Dulwich Wednesday 28th August - 1400 - Bambuni, Nunhead Look forward to seeing anyone who can make them.
  20. Hello If anyone has recently or in the past had a cellar/basement tanked and can recommend a local company I'd be most grateful. Only after recommendations from people who've actually had he work done - pls pm me details. Thanks
  21. Just caught up with your reply! Much appreciated. Ours turns out is not a leaking waste pipe...well that's the advice of a plumber. I'm now faced with getting a tanking company round to have a look - I feel like a big cheque is on the cards but with a baby on the way I just want something done and quickly with a decent guarantee to cover it if it fails. I can't change the outside ground level so we have to work around that. Interesting what you same about the lime cement, like you say - it definitely seems that trades do what the know and don't admit when they can't deliver. I'll let you know if I find someone who can lime render! Ours isn't Victorian - rather frustratingly its a solid concrete block built post war after bomb damage so who knows what delights we'll find when we investigate further!
  22. Hello I have a one off small job to put up an additional kitchen wall cabinet. The wall it needs to be attached to is concrete so I need someone with the right tools and experience for the job. If you know of anyone who has done similar for you please let me know. Many thanks
  23. Just wondered if there were any more updates to this thread. I too have been let down by a 'guarantee' for a problem which I can pretty much diagnose myself. We have a leaking internal pipe coupled with a semi basement flat that has signs of penetrating damp from the high ground level. I'm now looking for a decent company that I can trust to investigate the leak (and its a rather major investigation behind boxing in - and running through 3 flats) and a company who will tank the walls once the leak is fixed. Any recommendations or hints gratefully received!!
  24. Hi All I know there are lots of recommendations for plumbers on the forum (which I've used in the past for odd jobs, kitchen and bathroom work), however, I'm looking for a bit of a larger company to look into a problem with a main waste pipe running through a block of flats. If anyone has used a larger plumbing outfit for something similar and can recommend I'd be interested. Thanks
  25. Lovely to meet some of you last night! There were quite a few of us so didn't get to speak to everyone but am already looking forward to the next one. Thanks for sorting the table Cindy. Nicola x
