  1. As you walk in The Plough pub opposite the library there is a picture on the wall immediately to the left - it looks, to me, like a picture of Crystal Palace Road. Does anyone know who the artist is? I used to live in CPR and am convinced that my old house is in the picture! I asked the manager if they knew as I'd like to buy a copy but alas they don't. They offered to sell me the picture they have but as I don't think it's an original I think they want too much money for it - and anyway, I'd much rather buy direct from the artist.
  2. Check out the Rose on Forest Hill Road - they have a really nice garden room which is completely separate to the main pub and if it's nice weather then there's always the pub garden as well
  3. I just wanted to let everyone know that after reading really good reports of VP removals on this site, I used them yesterday for my move from East Dulwich to Norwich. They were incredibly good value, lovely guys to work with, very strong (which always helps with removals), happy to dismantle and reassemble my beds. I had stuff in store that also had to be picked up and it wasn't a problem for them at all.
  4. Lordship Lane in the early 90s (I moved 1992) was dire indeed and a very depressing place, especially after Sainsburys opened and the greengrocer and butchers (Le Chardon now) closed and Northcross Road was wall to wall hairdressers. I remember when the Blue Mountain cafe opened (1993??) and after that the domino effect began
  5. I went there for the first time last night, just for a drink, and loved what they've done there. The restaurant was packed and the bar was buzzing. Impressive wine list, only old world wines though. Only gripe is that the only nuts they had were wasabi nuts which I hate! So get some peanuts please!!
  6. Anyone know why there is a house & garden covered in artificial snow in Court Lane - stills shoot? Video? Film?
  7. Just like to say that I went to Le Chardon on Saturday with 6 friends and we all had the Groupon voucher which cost us ?25 each and we could spend up to ?55 each on food and drink (a no brainer really). We were treated the same as everyone else (ie well), the portions were big and the meal was absolutely gorgeous. There were some people in there with Amazon local vouchers and they got a shorter menu but for the Groupon deal we could choose anything from the main menu. It was the first time I've ever eaten there and I would certainly return and be happy to pay full whack
  8. Check the Rose on Forest Hill Road - they've got a really nice garden bar and kids are allowed
  9. It was the first time I've ever been and I thought it was a great day out - fabulous location and fabulous music. Well done Brian
  10. Is there anywhere local to get keys cut? I know there's the security place on lordship lane but is it ooen on saturdays?
  11. Just looked at the Daily Mail pictures - it's definitely receding/being pumped out quickly as it's no way that bad now.
  12. I've just cycled through (went via Croxted Road to avoid the flood) and very litte traffic. It looks like only the section from the Half Moon back towards the Oxfam shop is closed - rest is operating as normal
  13. There's a fab photography exhibition on at Photofusion in Brixton on prefabs by the photographer Elisabeth Blanchet: http://www.photofusion.org/exhibitions/elisabeth-blanchet/ Quite a lot of pictures from Catford, Dulwich, Peckham, Nunhead Also there's a tour of one of the Catford prefab estates on Saturday 20 July
  14. Not impressed with the new Sunday evening food menu - over a tenner for a cheeseburger and chips!! And they've got rid of the quiz burger special
  15. Does anyone know of any pubs showing this? I know it's rubbish but I do enjoy its cheesiness!
