  1. "...SE22 is now corporate lawyer and banker > country - they are working in a US culture and > increasingly living it - hence lots of people here > for whom money is completely divorced from reality > or value..." Despite the justifications, I still think this post is sh*te. Trying to compare Ed and Peckham with gated communities and suchlike in the US is just rubbish. And being lawyer working for a US firm automatically makes you pretentious, with no sense of the value of money? B*llocks. "I used to live in a grounded, essentially harmonious, decent society" - I suspect you live in a cosy little world where nobody challenges your cliched prejudices.
  2. Went out for New Year's Eve dinner last night - Hong Kong City in New Cross, the closest really good place (unfortunately). The one at Elephant and Castle is also v good
  3. I was at the game as well - the booing at the end almost drowned out the chants of 'you're not fit to wear the shirt' Lampard for man of the match was a crap decision, although he wasn't even in the running for worst performance of the night - take your pick from Carson (obviously), Bridge, Campbell, Richards, Barry Whoever comes in needs to start by getting rid of all this 'golden generation' bollocks - at international level you measure players by how they perform in those games, in which case every England player (with the possible exception of Owen) remains unproven. what was so impressive about Croatia was the consistency of performance throughout their side - true international class throughout the side even if there are few stars
  4. My post was just meant to correct the impression that might have been given that there are no laws in the UK which prevent harm to unborn children. For the legal background, including offences, click here.. Not sure whether the fact that there are separate offences rather than murder means a foetus isn't a human.
  5. Gold Lee is the only Chinese restaurant in ED where I would eat in - it's pretty good, and the service is v friendly. Chopsticks is terrible, gluey tasteless food. We often go for dim sum to Hong Kong City on New Cross Raod, or Peninsular in N Greenwich - sad to say, they're the closest really good chinese food
  6. I am a member of Camber Tennis Club, just off the south circular opposite the Harvester pub. It's a small and informal club, which tolerates/welcomes fairly crap players (like myself) There are 3 courts, 2 floodlit, and it's about ?150 per year. They organise lots of social events, and run 3 or 4 mens and ladies teams. If you're interested call Nigel on 07932 677899
  7. Why would you want to send your child to a catholic school if you're not Catholic?? If you want to pretend to be a churchgoer to get your kid into a better school, pretend to be C of E - it's easier
  8. SE22 has the most vicious turf wars in South London - the 'Nero posse' vs the 'Blue Mountain Boyz', the 'Black Cherries' takin' on the 'Bishops', and of course the 'Tandoori Knights' and the 'Surma Solid Crew'
  9. Chopsticks is terrible! I cannot understand why it always looks so busy The nearest proper chinese is Hong Kong City at the New Cross end of Old Kent Road, which is v good, esp for dim sum
