Sister lives in Mayo and being from sunnier south east prior to her living there never had any cause to go there bar one miserable wet holiday we spent in Achill en famille. Since sister has lived there, she's in Castlebar have visited several times and find it to be one of the most beautiful counties and love it. The rain is the main problem nearly every day at some stage but the evenings stretch out very long and it is bright til almost 11 in summer. Out around Belmullet is particularily beautiful it so isolated and desolate if you like that kind of thing. Sister has been over to Clare Island and likes it, have you been to Achill despite my first experience there now love it. Sligo is also a beautiful County alot more open than Mayo and has some good beaches.

Is it Cape Clear off Baltimore in West Cork you,re talking about. If so used to go there loads in my late teens early twenties and have very fond memories absolutely loved it. Haven't been for years but friends and I keep meaning to have a reunion there. Not a lot to do other than speaking Irish and birdwatching. Sherkin Island beside it is beautiful. Have been all over the world but still think it's my fave place in the world propably to do more with the formative experiences there. There is another Clare Island off Galway get the feeling that's the one you mean. Let me know.

Famous Blue Raincoat is one of my favourites. Greatest hits is a pretty good introduction. With Leonard Cohen you have to take a lot of the lyrics as tongue in cheek a lot say he's miserable but he is actually very funny if you listen.

Exactly don't know if the station could cope with the influx of bus loads from East Dulwich & the noise a double decker would make a little hoppa type bus maybe.

Am I being unreasonable? (upstairs neighbour noise)
ontheedge replied to ontheedge's topic in The Lounge
Spadetownboy I think you are being somewhat vitriolic, if you would like to come to my flat now you can hear him run up and down. I work shifts including nights and never would dream of asking any of my neighbours to keep noise down during the day as most people don't sleep during the day. I don't feel I should have to defend myself but I actually do know plenty about children. What I do know is children need routine and most children I know of toddler age are in bed by about 7.30 with the occassional wakeful night when not well. Everyone else has been extremly supportive with some good advice thank you. -

Thank you everyone for your support. I don't live in a conversion but a very well built excouncil circa 1930 so can't understand why its so loud as the floors are actually concrete with wood over. Before anyone says anything I bought at market value and was all I could afford I don't believe I contributed to the depletion of council stock. The neighbours across from me had a young baby and there bedroom was wall to wall with mine and quess what it screamed at night. They apologised but I said I never heard a thing as I reckon if they were tense and anxious that they were waking me the baby would sense this and cry more and they would just get stressed out. This point is only an example to show I'm not totally intolerant. -

You're right noise of the adult variety is worse feels like voyeurism. At least couples with young child a bit too worn out for anything too vigourous and guess worrying about waking child. Reason don't want to make too much fuss in case get childless frisky couple instead! lol -

Thanks when I say I've knocked I mean I've gone up and knocked on the door not banged on ceiling as find that rude. I totally accept it during the day as just the downside of living in a flat. Is it that small children are flatfooted that he make so much noise? -

I'm not sure if I'm being unreasonable or not but my upstairs neighbours have a toddler of about 2 and a lively little thing he is. He runs up and down for hours on end. I am aware children need to run around but it goes on everynight until at least ten thirty by which time I would expect a two year old to be asleep. I have mentioned it but they joked it off, I have also knocked but they don't answer. It's driving me over the edge. There is a carpet but not sure if there's underlay. I was going to write a note to them. Or was wondering if I should contact the landlord and suggest better sound proofing? The landlords lived there with their 3 children before and I only heard occassional noise. It's also stopping me inviting people around as its a constant noise. Anyone else had this problem. If I was renting I would be off.

Hear hear, I don't see how it could exacerbate asthma if you're sitting upstairs & it is perfectly safe to sit upstairs early in the morning.I think we should be grateful for such an excellent bus service and what lukury to be able to get off and know there will be another in minutes. People need to get a grip and stop being so precious unless it was meant as ironic humour
-
I don't see what the big problem if people find it that offensive say something, if a little iritated just sit upstairs. I guess none of the moaners ever drank in pubs when smoking was allowed.

Question for long-term ED residents.
ontheedge replied to Cassius's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As far as I can remember it was the coming of Sainsburys to DKH that saw the demise of many of the shops, Smiths the Greengrocers Heads the butchers and many others. The Chinese that is now the Tulip Cafe only closed in about 1992, gosh thats 16 years ago time does fly. There was Gents mens shop where the Sea Cow is now that sold some great mens clothes better than White Stuff and run by John Fisher RIP who was raised in the flat above. The Foresters was one of my favourite pubs in the early nintiesit was very well ran by a guy called George. And upstairs at the EDT for comedy and celebrity ub quizz were fab. ED in my 17 years here has never been rough.
