Year 6 at Dulwich Hamlet School were at Rippledown House in Kent and it took them all that day to get back. My Dad had a caravan on the Isle of Grain and went there to find every one around his was flattened and his one was totally unscathed. The North facing houses on Eynella road suffered roof damage etc. but the ones opposite were almost untouched (the wind was from the South). I remember waking up at about 4 and hearing glass breaking but we had no damage.

I had a serious problem with the nurse at 306. Also the non-medical staff have a habit of interfering in straightforward requests at the reception desk . I pay a chunk of my salary into the NHS so should be free to go there and get what I ask for!

The French has banned fracking so everyone who invested in the companies who were going to do it in France are now trying to get them to frack in the UK. It is successful in the US but then the US is so large that it is unlikely that the pollution of the water table would be much of a problem. When there were less people and less industry woodland was managed very well to supply energy needs. I can't believe the totally irresponsible way that oil has been used without any thought for the future- madness.

The public sector has always been and always will be open to abuse. I have personal experience and other examples stretching back to 1970 that make me sick to my stomach since there is a culture of 'well we're on low pay so we take what we can'. Several relatives in construction have also told me about illegal practices which cost the council tax payer a lot of money- backhanders, over charging for jobs (before council work was contracted out). Leaving the office on a visit and not returning (ie go home at 15:30) was de rigeur at one council I worked in. And that's just what I know....

Several people I know have dug out their old Nokia from years ago to use.

So people can get a voucher from the GP etc. so that means they don't necessarily have to be on benefits -in fact, given the level of benefits and the number of people working cash in hand as well, compared with say the old age pension or working people on housing benefit with an extra bedroom- benefit claimants are less likely to get a voucher than older people or disabled people hit by the bedroom tax because of a live-in carer. Since it is a free handout I would be inclined to think it was abused. Get free food and then you can buy more booze and fags-(mmmhhh there's a thought).

I did once threaten on the EDF to chop peoples' bushes if they overhang the pavement because I am sick of having to avoid getting my eyes poked out and/or being forced into the road when out for a walk- but I haven't done any yet. There has always been low level vandalism around here.
