Parents' expectations also influence children's achievement and it is well known amongst teachers that Asian students have strict home rules about school work and these students succeed. Since in some areas of the UK there are families of 3rd generation benefit claimants and therefore the children have never lived with anyone who has had a job, where do these children acquire a work ethic or aspirations?

Right Wingers are less intelligent...

I was voicing my thoughts on 2 separate issues because the thread seems to have deviated from the original. -
Right Wingers are less intelligent...

According to Wiki Huguenot, over 15% of Canadians are of Scottish descent and that is an underestimation. Those injustices do go back a long way. -

Whenever I've looked at their I.D. they have come from Dagenham! Casualties of our dwindling car manufacturing industry? -
(anything to do with footie makes me feel sick and angry. but that's me.) i love good tats so go ahead in my opinion- but around this immediate area you may have a lack of custom so you had better be good to draw in outsiders. (or draw ON outsiders lol!)

Taking the cynical, conspiracy theory angle- a)all Scots politicians in England are desperate to wreak revenge on England for past injustices. b)By publicising right-wingers as less intelligent automatically controls right-wingers who wish to appear intelligent and therefore will keep quiet. -

Obama's War on the Catholic Church
uncleglen replied to ManOfTheCloth's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A couple of years ago the Pope sent an emissary to Africa to tell them that 1) condoms do not prevent the spread of the HIV and 2) promoting the use of condoms was the West's way of trying to control the population in Africa. This is the 21st Century ffs. Since thousands of Mexicans (mostly Catholic) try to get into the US all the time Obama has a vested interest in promoting the use of contraception any which way. '...man thinks things divine because he does not understand them....' so said a Greek philosopher of BC. This still suits the church today and thousands are kept in ignorance! -

uncleglen replied to Curmudgeon's topic in The Lounge
According to Yahoo News, a man with a machete was trying to steal a car in Elsinore Road at 5.40 am. The police were called, he threatened them with the machete (in Stanstead road) and he got shot and he is critical but stable. -

Domino's did not get permission for change of use- in the South London Press today -
The place where loads of people cross, (including a very elderly lady with a walking stick), is at the junction of Heber Road and LL opposite the northbound bus stop. It is narrow there, you can see down to the bend and there is a lull in the traffic coming from the Plough because of the traffic lights; and where you cross, by the southbound bus stop, there are no parked cars. As far as I know there has been only one serious car/pedestrian collision there.

Sorry to resurrect this but I was hoping 'it' would go away. The 'muriel' itself has been tagged- it is horrid-the whole thing. I live close to it and I am embarassed by it.Probably the thought that people visiting the area may think that the locals like it- I know some do but more don't it seems.

East Dulwich Constitutional Club
uncleglen replied to Thequietone's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I know for a fact that a sports club has its AGM there and holds quiz nights there. Also there are other quiz nights there but not often. -
I had a chat with one of the guys in the Sylvester Road sorting office some months ago about these types of problems and he told me that they are not doing the usual stringent security checks that they used to do when he was appointed. Also they use agency staff- one of these in my road asked my daughter where a house was because he didn't understand the odd/even numbers on different sides of the street!

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
uncleglen replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As regards the CPZ issue; it was interesting to note that there were no parking restrictions in the road nearest to Sainsbury's in Forest Hill when they had a LibDem/Conservative controlled Council the election before last, and then Labour got in 5 years ago and put parking meters in that road! -
About time. I was on the 12 once when a uniformed inspector got on, went up to a young hooded gentleman who stood up to get off. The inspector asked for his ticket/Oyster etc and the young gentleman tried to get past him. The inspector asked again, the lad head-butted him in the face and ran off the bus. He was spotted by the other (plain clothes) inspector getting on a bus behind. The inspector said we'll get him at Downing Street (there's a policeman there). They must have radio-ed the bus he was on to prevent him getting off and at Downing Street the Transport Police turned up and caught the thieving little scrote!>:D

Police helicopters over camberwell cemetery? (Shooting)

Easy solution to all this crime and rioting: read 'Children of Men' by P.D.James- there is an island where the criminals are dumped with no supervision and they have to survive in a society of their own creation.>:D
