  2. United States of Eurasia- Muse
  3. Natty-I'm neither happy nor unhappy. I am content. I get elated quite frequently- just by being alive and that is enough for me
  4. If it's your cat that crapped in the middle of my grass yesterday , or half killed a bird in my garden last week then I hope the fleas suck every last drop out of it!
  5. Did you know it is 'Talk Like a Pirate' day today?
  6. Well at least we won't have to wait long for the result since there are so few to count....unless ofcourse there are umpteen recounts!
  7. Waterloo Sunset- The Kinks
  8. Wow a 'skelington' what a fantastic word!

  10. My son thinks it's some kind of reverse psychology and that he really wants shot of them!
  11. Champagne socialism- the scourge of civilisation1
  12. This government is managing the economy adequately...and that's about it. But then that may be enough.
  13. I used to work at London bridge and regularly got a train at around 4.30 and had a monthly season ticket. I always sat in the same carriage and there was a young woman who also got the same train as me and was in the same carriage. This was the situation for several months. One day an inspector got on and she had no ticket maintaining that she would have missed the train. She gave him money and he gave her a ticket. I have seen grown adults using child passes on the tube. Once a woman went through the barrier at the tube and then passed her ticket back over to another person- apparently, so I've been told, the barrier staff cannot challenge this sort of thing. Also every time I got on a bendy 12 half the passengers did not touch their oyster cards in. I once got on a London Overground train late at night when the barriers were open and forgot (alcohol induced amnesia)to touch my oyster but got off at Denmark Hill and those barriers were open as well! Hence it does not surprise me when fares go up!
  14. I don't kow what all the fuss is about- Scotland has a smaller population than London There is freedom of movement across the whole of Europe England will carry on as before muddling through, because our population is unmanageable
  15. This explains the Methods in maths and Applied maths linked GCSEs. http://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/mathematics/gcse/methods-in-mathematics-9365 Usually weaker students are entered for easier papers which you could find out if this is the case by googling the English lang/Lit gcse as a single paper. The standard English GCSEs are separate Language and Literature. The distribution of single subject science grades is impressive.
  16. Kick out the Jams- Rage Against the Machine
  17. Don't Let The Sun catch You Crying- Gerry and the Pacemakers
  18. The Weaver's Answer- Family
  19. (Admin: I would post this in the General section but off and on for a month now I have not been able to post in there?) People have posted and complained about people not being considerate on the pavements re: allowing others to pass when coming from the opposite direction. I would take serious issue with people who allow their bushes to encroach onto the pavement- in some cases up to 1/3 of the pavement is covered. I am going to look into this with the council because it is ridiculous in some places.
  20. Dead to Me- Immolation
  21. Me and Julio Down by The School Yard- Paul Simon
  22. Sounds like another step backwards to me......
  23. My children used to come home with a tin of words within 2 weeks of starting at age 5. They had to learn the words which were in a book that they were expected to read in school. We had no problem with this as the school they attended had/has an excellent reputation. We seemed to have time for all the 'family' things- swimming 3 times a week, table tennis, visiting relatives (incidentally the grandparents were very good at engaging the children in numbers games, word games etc.) Unless you can get all the other parents in the class to boycott, or complain, about the hw, your child is going to 'fall behind'... Also bear in mind that there are a fair few parents out there who are using tutors and Kumon at an early age.
