  1. Anyway, why would paying cash deprive you of either a receipt for the money or a guarantee for the work, regardless of the amount? You only don't get these things if the trader refuses to give them to you.

  3. It's more gentlemanly for the trader to wait until the customer suggests it.
  4. Catholicism and scouting. Not a combination that fills one with great confidence.
  5. Watch 'em all. Think I liked the first solar system one the best. Fantastic. The second one strayed too much into slightly abstract and inaccessible territory - for me, anyway. The third clearly but a bigger budget and suffers a little from ostentatious HD footage montage overload (is there a term for this?) *Cue close-up of wrinkly Native American Indian accompanied by uplifting modernist orchestral soundtrack* Quality stuff though.
  6. Rebellion is often seen as the mark of youth. I don't think this is quite true. The mark of youth is to disappoint and consternate the older generation by not doing what they're supposed to do. Rebellion may have been the tool of choice once, but it's a bit old hat now, because that's what their parents did. Where are their rebellious spirits and tribal affiliations, their attempts to be different, like wot we did? Bloody kids! Oh yeah.. job done.
  7. Sorry - just checked a photo. I looked like a complete penis - just like everyone else.
  8. I looked really cool.

The very act of putting pen to paper on such a subject is game over, Grandad. I suppose underneath the dressing it's just an excuse for a bit of good old-fashioned nostalgia. Quite sweet, really.
  10. A point made earlier (I forget by whom) is pertinent: the additions/improvements done to so many houses round here have been quite low end. A house with modest improvements at ?500k is an altogether different prospect to a house at ?1m with the same. When a potential buyer is spending the latter, you can bet they're prepared to pay considerably more for something better - and budget additions might even count against the price. Of course owners are often blind to this. "But it's got four bedrooms! Where's my million quid?!"
  11. What's that you say? Kids these days? Eh? (Raises trumpet to ear)
  12. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Er, what advantages? The advantage of not giving your money to 'a bloke down the pub'? I think My Grandad had one when I was growing up. The landlord might just as well have set aside a barrel for him. He pissed it away, on account of its convenient location - and running-up a bar bill in lieu. Whilst the landlord earned 10% interest (in the 1980s) and ended-up with all the money anyway.
  13. Didn't Billy Mitchell steal the Christmas club money as well? I predict that - within the next two decades - everyone in Eastenders will have both stolen the Christmas club money and had an affair with Phil. Aren't pub Christmas clubs a bit weird though? None of the advantages of putting it savings account, with all the potential disadvantages of giving your money to a bloke in the pub.
  14. Give us the full story!
  15. A picture of a topless woman printed onto a cardboard panel, obscured by bags of peanuts for sale. Dare you ask for 'one from the middle'?

  17. Not disagreeing on any any of those costs as such, LM However I'm sure you'll agree you couldn't do the two for much *less* than 110. That makes 110 a 'starting price'. The cost of up-spec'ing and associated knock-on costs and in turn - vat - is somewhat exponential. Hence 'could we just do this or that a bit nicer' suddenly costs a helluva lot more.
  18. Single sex, suspicion re the 'Harris Brand', a problem with academies in general.. No doubt all these play their part too.
  19. Standard cost for side extension and loft conversion? ?110k - ?250k, depending on what standard you want to end-up with of course. ?110k might do it, but absolutely at the cheaper end.
  20. Touchy subject indeed. No doubt it will all kick-off with some inappropriate comment somewhere or other. My personal opinion is that a lot of people would prefer a school which is reasonably reflective of the mix they experience in their day to day life, no more, no less. Which is pretty mixed, here in London - and all the better for it. Many - (most, even?) of the local primaries are reflective of this mix. Harris isn't. Not yet, anyway. I hope this will change.
  21. Mist?
  22. d'Azur?
  23. Mink?
  24. Puffa?
  25. House on market for ?10 .. sell in half an nanosecond. House on market for ?2m .. no sale. Just find the right point in between these two and you won't have a problem. Easy.
