Apple are evil. But then the devil always did have the best tunes. I take issue with the much-mooted cost-factor. Averaged-out over over 15 years or so and including resale of old machines, Apple's machines have cost me ?287/year. The only hardware problem I've ever had with any of them was a dodgy superdrive, which I replaced myself for ?30. ?287/year! Weigh that up unfavourably against the cost of just about any other business expense you can think of.. if you can.

Otta, the peeps who use the high-end stuff for actual real work (as opposed to playing Boggle, sending emails and flicking themselves off) are usually quite reticent when it comes to 'rushing out' to buy a new release. I certainly don't want one or need one any time soon. If you refuse to see the innovation required to make something 8 times smaller, twice more powerful and half as quiet then you're simply allowing your Apple hatred to blind you to impressive industrial design. I like the slate and chalk idea though. Can I plug microphones into it directly or do I need some sort of interface? Will post production facilities and studios have the same slate and chalk as me, or will I need to bring my own slate and chalk in case there are problems? Back in the real world, I mean.

As always, I believe purchase is optional so it won't cost you anything. The old Pro was a hulk for sure, but replacing it with a machine 1/8 the size represents some pretty nifty rethinking.

No doubt they all will once it goes on sale. It is as you describe, of course, but 'fancy chassis' slightly underplays what is a pretty bold design!

Perhaps a little like the thing Obi-Wan creeps around to shut down the death star tractor beam. But that's a good thing.. http://www.apple.com/mac-pro/index2.html

Improvement, yes. Excitement, no.

I believe they were only posted up the bum of specific offenders.

Were they salt of the earth, knees-up round the old blitz spirit gawd bless 'em cockernees? Or were they Boden-sporting Jenny-come-lately types, gassing about house prices whilst fiddling with their iPhones? I KNOW WHO MY MONEY IS ON

Well put Shorty. If you think about it, there are no logical or practical reasons for a house to own any boundary in particular as a matter of course. And various reasons why posts and rails might be one one side or the other. Commonly held belief is simply a load of old cock. Best bet is to go with the flow of fencing which has been established. And there's nothing to stop you fencing all sides of your own garden yourself if you want to!

I thoroughly enjoyed a Strawberry Cornetto yesterday, so I guess Oddono's will do me if I want to step up a notch.

Yep, it's definitely the one on the left as you look at the garden. Unless of course it's the one on the right - which it sometimes is. I before E, except after C - except for all the words that don't obey the rule etc etc.. Sorted.

There is no 'default' side, no mysterious ancient law governing who is entitled to the 'good side' - and lots of deeds where no boundaries are marked at all!

Yeah, been. The Yelloh one, I presume? Did short flight followed by pricey taxi.. Takes an hour or more. Friends drove to meet us there (long ferry followed by drive). This was a few years ago. Nice site. Lots of trees. Shady but airy. Chalet things reasonably spaced-out. Bbqs near most chalets. Pool area nice, with one waterslide. Poolside facilities were a bit rustic but not in an unpleasant way. Nicely low key. On-site shop sells daily basics. There's a restaurant or two nearby which is busy but we never went. Local markets a short drive on certain days for more varied local grub. The 'dune' is really massive. A behemoth. Kids were slightly afeared of it, but then they were a bit young. You have to get over the dune (or through one of the cut-through paths) to get to the beach. Either a nice little walk or 'can't be arsed' depending on your point of view. Can't speak for the beach as we never really went. Weather was variable for sure when we went but it was around nowish so quite early in season. Should be better in Aug but not totally guaranteed in that area by any means. There was a kids club, which was free. There were only a five or six attending when we went but liable to be more madcap in Aug. Indeed - like all decent French campsites - liable to be quite heaving during peak season. It was very chilled when we went..

Any chance you could compare the distance an earthworm moves over a six minute period with a leg of lamb?

Is it Richard Hammond?

"My journey into work could not be much worse; a dismal trudge across Peckham Rye in the pissing rain. Taking care not to step on last night's dog eggs, I pause outside Homemade, eye the selection of airline-style blankets optimistically draped over the chairs and move on as an icy blast chills me to the bone. Suddenly, I..."

"Cast down the gourd and follow the shoe." I don't think it's been better put - before or since.

Surely what you mean is that some people see Muslims - wrongly - as a race? Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point.
-
Islam is a religion. Followers of Islam are by definition Muslims. That's all there is to it. There is no separation. Only interpretation.. But that goes for every faith innit?
-
Not sure i get that point.. What is the separation?

I think (to echo Pibe earlier) most people identify terrorism with wider organisation.. Plans made, orders given, doers dispatched. Of course this may turn out to be the case in due course, but at present this simply doesn't walk like the terrorist duck. To me it seems like some sort of grotesque and deluded personal vanity project, carried out by two deeply disaffected men. Terrorists don't stroll around afterwards chatting to passers-by, asking to be filmed, waiting for the police to arrive. The event - and aftermath - is bizarre in the extreme.
-
With you there all the way Pibe.

I can't imagine anyone contributing to this thread qualifying as being 'the most dangerous' and therefore in need of targeting.. whoever all this is meant for, they're not reading. Just off on a slight tangent RE vulnerability.. isn't this part of the appeal of being on two wheels? It's one of the reasons I've always had motorbikes. Buzz-factor.
