I think mine was Stackridge at > Goldsmith's College in '73. blimey ! wish I'd been at that , wish I'd seen the korgis at goldsmiths ! mine was Rush at Southampton Gaumont 1977 , Hemispheres tour , absolutely musically perfect in every way , but really not my cup of tea at all ,rows of youths doing air guitar bleuurrrtgh !!! I was just bowing to peer group pressure , in this case my cousin and all his mates , who were the only friends I had at the time , so I was seeking approval , f*ck only knows why because most of them were a bunch of w*****s from what I recall . first real proper gig(s) that meant anything to me was when they used to have gigs on a sunday at the Lyceum on the strand , and for a fiver you could come up and see all sorts , its all a bit of a blur , but I came up from the wilds of hampshire , and saw The Fall , The Fire Engines , The Pop Group , The Thompson Twins (long before they went shit)The Cure , The Buzzcocks, The Au Pairs , The Passions , Echo and the Bunnymen , The Psychedelic Furs , etc etc ... came up several times so its all a blur .... whoever promoted those gigs was a bloody star ! we're talking 80/81 . then there was the time Captain Beefheart came to Guildford civic in 81 .... bloody great gig , and one of his last ..... saw Bill Bruford (out of Yes ) the same year , same venue which again was musically perfect but somewhat lacking ,and his band all wore stupid yellow tracksuits , what was that all about ? :))
