  1. Just been on the radio - Luke Wooster sounded dire
  2. Story about Peckham house prices rocketing!
  3. You could try the squad at Dulwich fusion, they train thurs pm and sat am, if you would like more then southwark team is run from seven islands...defo not up themselves but excellent coaching and options of training every night of the week and also competitions if interested
  4. James, Can you please provide details of any new secondary schools that will be opening? I love how you mention a "black hole" for primary where are all these kids going to go after year 6...we need more mixed comps in the area. Thanks
  5. Why do southwark have to be so different?? Interested to know how Sydenham Girls have done this year, their A level results were great (77% A*-C and 45% A*- B ) doesn't say if it includes maths and English though. Kingsdale very quiet how strange!
  6. I found this link... http://www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/news/10625802.GCSE_results_day_for_south_east_London_and_north_Kent_students___live_blog_on_Thursday/?ref=mr ?GCSE results day live blog, covering all the news from schools in Bexley, Bromley, Dartford, Gravesham, Greenwich and Lewisham Not southwark though!
  7. Can highly recommend Dulwich Magic Football...they start young and the kids love it, its outside and brilliant! Here's the website http://www.footballmagiccoaching.co.uk/
  8. Good luck getting them homed Sarah. I think CH are quite strict about how busy the roads are, I do know some ppl have been refused for that reason.
  9. Hi Sarah, We picked up our mum and 2 kittens on Sunday and saw your scrummy cakes (cupcakes with cat faces) they were amazing! Anyone thinking of getting kittens think about the mum its truly been a blessing to have her with her 2 very playful boys...
  10. Dulwich Multi sports programme is excellent its for girls and boys up to age 11/12 (yr 6)...its only ?17 a day much much cheaper than the dulwich ones. Its held at the Hamlet football ground next to Sainsbo's.
  11. We were at the stadium last night and had the privilege to see David Wier win the 1500m...it was a moment my friends family and myself will never forget...amazing! The stadium noise was deafening a massive WOW! Two events that have me completely bowled over - blind long jump and the high jump (hop on one leg and dive over the bar)
  12. Its excellent - and a good mix of boys and girls across all ages...my son loves it- just wished it was around my daughter was younger They group the kids by ages so your daughter wouldnt be playing any sport with a 10 year old - theres also swimming in the afternoons most days - optional I think.... Give it a go can highly recommend
  13. No advice but wishing you good luck its just so bloody tough as a single parent who needs the extra stress of your employer changing hours!! On childcare there a lot of college students that could do the longer hours its just finding them - not impossible I think if you go in with some sort of compromise on your part they may be willing to help/accomodate your needs (like say later could work but early def a no....) Best of luck
  14. Rye Lane - all those hair shops (not hairdressers mind!) - had a blast down there a few weeks ago as needed a wig for a party...usually at the back of the shops
  15. Vouchers or money - most kids espoecially girls that age love being able to "choose" their own clothes/jewellery/make up etc....or primark/h&m etc vouchers...primark is great for that age (actually all ages lol)
  16. I have seen it in Sainsburys but prob that organic/health shop (cant think of the name) will have it on LL opposite co-op....or holland and barrets on rye lane...its so expensive!
  17. Emily - I know who you and your son are (saw your guardian picture/post) Just to say I know exactly what you are going through as this time last year I had to reassure a very upset 11year old! St Johns where brilliant in dealing with this too...lots of time in the butterfly room etc You will automaically get on the waiting list for any school above your allocated school (so all your other choices) You will find out in a few days exactly where you are (last year kingsdale was very slow...but ED Harris should be better)...we found out the next day we were 5th on our 3rd choice (I use the word choice loosely) but that was a lewisham school....deep breaths but have hope there is a lot of movement in the next few weeks so once you know your place on the waiting list you can start breathing (hopefully) a little better....so sorry though the system is extremely cruel for the kids who dont get a school of their choice
  18. Hi - going from last years mess I couldn't log onto the online site (too busy so crashed) we all found out via e-mail which one smart cookie checked and we all followed...so do both...but def e-mail came first.....horrid time you have my sympathy.....but please be reninded that there is a LOT of movement shortly after.... One other thing - southwark were disgustingly poor in letting me know where we were on waiting lists - Lewisham gave me details the next day and we had letters confirming this within days - we rejected the school we were "given" as it wasn't a good option for us but we still received a "welcome to our school" from that school - southwark need to up their game (rant over - can you tell how traumatised I was!!!)
  19. Decided to work out what a free school is - because I assumed all schools are free (of course apart from private) so the title is confusing....also looked at what steiner means - found this article - http://www.localschoolsnetwork.org.uk/2011/03/steiner-schools-fail-to-get-free-school-funding-for-this-year-at-least/ Basically no funding for steiner schools 2011...seems the govt need to look into this more... ALSO....Steiner schools were founded by the Austrian mystic Rudolf Steiner, who held racist ideas, believing black people were of ?childhood? and Asian people were ?degenerate?.
  20. Thanks for the explanation emc - its just another example of how single parent families are left below the poverty line (whatever that is)....and since these lone parent families will only increase in the future we have to look at organisations to lobby on our behalf (gingerbread etc)..They are fighting hard for the govt NOT to charge the parent applying for help (via the CSA)...this is a big issue. YES the labour govt brought in tax credits and thats the only way I could afford to go back to work - by getting some of the child care costs covered - this has now dropped significantly which will force many parents not to even have the option to go back to work - what a disaster! I thanked dear Gordon Brown every day as I struggled into work - but I would rather be a happy, tired working mum than one stuck in the benefit system and unable to come out...with no extra cash for my kids to do any activities...do you know how expensive these are? I simply cannot stand what DC is doing to the system (incl the NHS)...he's ok with his millions in the bank! I also think its very easy for people to make comments without knowing what life is really like for many families because as usual the media only pick up on the extreme cases....most families are broke!!!!
  21. a single mum who is earning just above the ?42,475 (hmm, not sure there are many single mums who earn this but if you are out there, get in touch!) so will lose her child benefit I actually take great offence at this statement - there are plenty of highly skilled/qualified professional single mums (dads) earning over this benchmark - perhaps you need to research your comments!
