Mutt. I have no claim to being an art critic!! The mistake to which I was referring has nothing to do with the actual mural - it was about the fact that the pavement was damaged by the weight of the cherrypicker.

My missus and I have been using Sema's for many years - have always found them very good - We tried Olley's a couple of years ago - didn't seem any better than Sema's - certainly over-hyped and not worth the higher prices.

I hope they don't make the same mistake as did those who produced the mural on the side of what is now the Lordship Pub and Kitchen - they used a really big cherry-picker that was so heavy it seriously damaged the pavement - must have been fairly costly to repair...

I live in a block of 6 flats at the junction of Landcroft/Pellatt Roads - we have a communal 4 wheeled ie large bin which was last collected on May 21st, next collection was due 4th June. I have reported the missed collection last week and again today - and the occupant of another flat has reported it at least twice. From the Southwark website: - Missed Collection Order Completed Thank you for your report of a missed waste collection. This will be investigated and actioned within 2 working days. Your reference number is MIS-21483 Does anyone know if any of our local councillors are worth contacting about this (or even Helen Hayes MP) ??

Very strange - if you go to Thames Water's Twitter account on Chrome or IE it's OK but if you use Microsoft Edge browser there's a load of foreign text on it.

I wonder whether Thames Water's Twitter account has been hacked ? There seems to be a lot of Russian-looking script on it suddenly...

In August 2003 the whole area was without water for about 2 WEEKS - hope we're not in for a repeat - Oh, and we all received letters saying we'd get compensation ( about ?50 was quoted I believe ) but surprise surprise - it never happened.

How insulting! That puts it in the same category as the Daily Mail.

Roads in SE22 not underneath flight path (do they exist?)
Bony Fido replied to klove's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Aircraft noise covers a wide area - when the first sound of a Heathrow-bound aircraft is heard in SE22 it is usually over the Greenwich Park vicinity, and the majority of aircraft heard in East Dulwich are directly above an area between Camberwell Green and Burgess Park, so discussion about which particular street in ED they affect is largely irrelevant. If you want to see exactly where the culprits are at any given moment try one of the flight tracking apps such as "www.flightradar24.com" -
Photographs prohibited in the library?
Bony Fido replied to ce's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I often use an app called QuickMark to scan barcodes on goods that interest me while going around clothes shops etc. The app uses the phone's camera to scan the tags - seems to be a legitimate use of the camera's phone and likely to benefit the shop in the long run, assuming I subsequently purchase an item that I've previously scanned. Thus a blanket ban on use of cameras in store could be counter productive. Presumably a bit of discretion when actually photographing/filming would be best i.e. make sure staff are not watching... -

No chance it could become a block of flats I suppose?? That's what the area is crying out for (tee-hee) -

With modern GPS and tracking it should possible to have a satellite to detect and identify any vehicle which exceeds the 20mph limit on Lordship Lane. And then all we need do is adapt Ronald Reagan's Star Wars technology to instantly vaporise the blighters so they can't do it again - "Simples" ! -
bike thieves cutting through street bike stands in ED
Bony Fido replied to emmmab's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you lock your bike to the garden fence or similar bear in mind that these are often much easier to cut through than the council bike stands - its no good using an expensive locking system whem the item you lock it to is the weakest link. -

Does anybody know whether the KCH helicopter pad has been completed? Flightradar24 is currently (9:20 pm)showing a helicopter (G-SCHZ) flying in the vicinity.

(ED Picturehouse now open)when is the cinema on LL opening?
Bony Fido replied to Ole's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A passing glimpse through the doorway shows it still looks more like a building site than a cinema. On a positive hopeful note though, I have had a drink or two in the Clapham Picturehouse bar recently and the prices are not too bad e.g. pint of Estrella ?4.30,slightly cheaper than local bars. Bearing in mind that Clapham is probably a bit pricier than ED looks promising if you want another bar to choose from (I haven't a clue about the cinematic quality however) -

Singalto, Your mention of the volcano situation reminded me of the other benefit of no aircraft above - the clear skies. Normally on a bright day the sky is often almost covered in thin cloud caused by the aircraft. It was strange to see only patches of "natural" cloud each day, and it was only a day or two before flights were due to resume that I realised I'm very unlikely ever to see totally clear skies again over London.
