Cozza01 said "My advice would be...until you have completed the following list of energy improvements....its not going to work that well in a victorian/edwardian house which just leaks heat 1. Decent double glazed sash windows - would throughly recommend Marvin windows....white aluminium on the outside, wood on the inside! Not cheap but fab! 2. Wall insulation - either inside or on the outside of the house...depending on if your house is brick or render 3. Under floor insulation plus under floor heating - most houses are floorboards over dirt foundations not exactly robust from a heating perspective. 4. Solar panels" That would cost an absolute fortune to get done!

I was considering buying one a few years back, but got second thoughts when I saw that it was more expensive than using gas. Might well do the job in the future when we need to give up using fossil fuels.

what a spectacularly useless image that is! -
I suppose they can, Hemigway, they mocved to the right to pinch Farage's votes, now they've got a big majority they can move back towards the centre. But we shall see. I am not hopeful.

in the 8647 one, the fields of Alleyns are at the bottom, with Townley road running up towards the Lane (which is on the right) -

I think with this one and the Lower Sydenham store, it seems to be a struggle to make a profit these days. The Sydenham one is apparently the largest in the UK (of Sainsbury). Changing shopping habits, people shopping online (obvs) plus shopping little and often which favours the smaller local stores. -
alice asked: So is it setting its entry requirements higher than previously? Only in the sense that more applicants tend to mean more ability to select. So, could mean a higher academic intake. But there are no set standards. You offer places to the best people (however measured) that apply. If only 120 applied, then they'd all get in I imagine.

goldilocks, you are totally wrong about Alleyn's in terms of bursaries. It offers 100% bursaries now - more than it ever has, in fact - and also additional help to children whose parents can't afford the extras - like uniform, sports kit and so on. They even provide 100% support if a student on a 100% bursary wishes to go on a school trip.

Interesting - that shows the area in front of the main school building is NOT MOL in fact. BUT it is a conservation area. -

No, Alice you are wrong. Southwark have not allowed car parking on any of the open land at the school. It's zoned as MOL. Take it up with Southwark but they won't agree. -

macutd said "park the coaches on site. Alleyns has plenty of land. They just need a little tarmac." Alleyns land is Metropolitan Open Land - you can't tarmac it even. -

Running costs, in terms of fuel or electricity, are far cheaper using an EV. Some of the latest can do over 250 miles on a charge. -
though the convention is that the main parties take it in turns to provide the speaker, so it should be Labour's turn. But that isn't a cast iron rule by any means.

Be aware - if the planning is not approved, the school can appeal to the minister responsible.
