yes literally cold turkey. It was hell the first night but I'd been prewarned on here about that, I think I'd just got to caving in point when it stopped. I may have misremembered the amounts of time he cried each night but I def remember it only took 3 nights and even then it was only 'bad' the first night. Can't remember how we managed with naps tho. I really couldn't believe how quickly we did it as he was a dummy addict. The cutting it out during the day (ie non sleep times) was when he was a bit younger, and did result in a few tantrums but we just rode it out - my husband actually initiated that one and was much stronger than me. I think we brought it back when he was ill and when he had his grommets done (this was pre full cold turkey). I wouldn't worry about being in a rush to do it - I do sometimes still miss its calming qualities! It was simply that post grommets his sleep didn't improve immediately and we figured out that he was almost using the dummy as a prop to get us to come when he'd lost it. Somehow without that his sleep improved.

Clubs/groups/activities suitable for a toddler and newborn.

Copleston playgroup on a Tuesday morning? reasonably contained - depending on how much of an escape artist she is!I've seen a lot of mums with toddler + small baby there. -
I think it was your advice I took when weaning my then 16 mth old off his, PR Darling! and it worked, so thankyou.
-
Don 't know. Do know that there was some evidence dummies are a factor in preventing SIDS (perhaps because they remind the baby to breathe) which I found quite comforting. I think removing at over 1 is ok - depends what you class as premature I guess.

Yes was straightforward when we did it - got advice on here! It was a hellish first night of about 40 mins crying - th en just 5-10 the second night and 0 the third. He was older though so I didn't feel so mean doing it! He had got to the stage before he was 1 of just having it whenever he wanted, so we cut it down to just sleepy times at about 1, so in a way the sleep associated bit was just the second half of the battle. Would do it that way again. In fact if next baby doesn't have same waking issues at 15/16 mths wouldn't be in a rush to get rid of it. I wonder if she's waking for any other reason? She's not hungry/feeling ill? I know my son was a bit take it/leave it up till about 8 mths or so. If it's just dummy related it won't last, they do figure it out! I know Gina and other baby experts say to remove it once they're asleep but I personally wouldn't bother.

honestly, especially if you are travelling on your own, you'll find other passengers/staff are really helpful - so though there are logistical obstacles, it isn't that bad! I actually choose to fly over train when I go back home as find it easier.
-
I think it's a stage they all go through with the dummy, then they figure out how to find it/keep it in. I kind of gave up on the removing after sleep thing and just let it be, and it was fine. We weaned off at 15/16 months because the waking for it did start again - and by that age he was well capable of finding it so I felt it was kind of an excuse to wake up in the night, and better removed. But at such a young age I wouldn't try weaning off - if it's giving comfort, it can't be a bad thing.

oh no - and does that mean tomorrow they will ask for crisps as soon as they get up? I know tht's what wd happen here...
-
hah. But can you have all 3 in double versions?! That wd be too much.

oh good point anna_r! I can't finish a sentence around my toddler, let alone learn how to resucitate one... -
Larval buggy board is a 6/10 fit with baby jogger if I recall from lascal website...

I love the nipper but travel by bus too much for it to be an option.

HH we had a maclaren with us in Marseille and still had to check it - just one of those quirks of travelling abroad I guess ;-) was prob a different rule the next day.
-
ps is a bloody pain Addison lee stopped doing it - though was only booster seat for age 1 and up. Annoyingly I think it's to do with the make of car the booster seat was built into, and them not using that model anymore.
-
Are you taking your buggy? the alternative would be to call a black cab and take baby in buggy - safer than on knee, and I believe in some you can strap into the wheelchair bit, though haven't tried this myself. Comcabs is one i can think of.
-
have to admit that's never happened to me, and I've flown on my own a few times though maybe been unlucky - wonder if they'd be more helpful when you've got more than 1 child with you though. I did once get to take my buggy onto the plane with me as it was a quiet flight, that was v helpful. Some airports abroad (Marseilles for one) make you check the buggy at the same time as the luggage, might be worth researching in advance and taking a sling if this is likely?

FREE infant first aid/resuscitation training

I'd be interested though confused as to whether baby or toddler would be best since have the latter, and soon to have baby too. -
you can request assistance and in some airports there's a special security line for people with wheelchairs or small children, much smaller queues/less pressure/more help - really good. Def do it at Gatwick, haven't flown from any of the others for a while.
-
Am sure mine is getting it too. Have liquid piriton somewhere so might give that a go.

much bigger size than is relevant to you (for my 2.5 yr old) but I used tesco's own while staying with my mum recently and they did the job absolutely fine - didn't even notice they weren't our usual Pampers at first. Didn't try them at newborn stage though so can't vouch for how well they contain explosive newborn type nappies...

Travelling with an 18mo old / totally freaking out.
Belle replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Nine seems a long time - I know I would go mental doing nine days on my own with my son but then that's prob partly because it's what I do most of the time. 5 seems more do-able - basically a long weekend. Def think that the sleep thing not an issue - have had few probs with this when travelling, and agree it's a kind of 'wait and see' thing - plus won't be your problem! Bet he'll slip back into normal routine when home when it's back to being your/half your problem again so don't worry! But if you are worried in terms of proximity to birth etc then that is a reason to maybe revisit it. -
haven't been for a while but pretty sure do things like omelette and chips which are good for kids? poss also pasta etc. the right hand side bit quite child friendly.

my baby is ill and won't feed - what to do please?
Belle replied to hellosailor's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Agree with what the others are saying. Even now at 2 and a bit, I find GPs/nurses always ask 'how's his appetite' straight away about my son if ill - it's such a major sign of something being wrong. Try either Seldoc or A&E, I'm sure you won't be disparaged by either and even if you are, it would be wrongly so as you are in the right! -
