  1. James Barber said: > I think arguments that no problem > exists has'nt helped with this issue. I think blowing this so-called problem out of all proportion hasn't helped with this issue. Lets face it, a handful of people, was it 45, originally came to you complaining they couldn't park in their streets anymore (a handful compared to the 1,400-odd who've signed the petitions against the CPZ). I live in Oglander and, yes, although I've noticed a growing number of non-residents coming to park here, I never have a problem parking near my home. I think what's bugging some people is they can't park directly outside their houses so easily now.
  2. Gsirett - I love what you're doing here re petitions etc and agree with all your comments about why a CPZ would be terrible, and I loved the way, along with Zak,you managed, finally, to pin James Barber down on what would be an acceptable petition to the snakes at Southward Council, but when you say: "I would hazard a guess that the majority of people on this forum, like me, could compfortably afford this (it's a guess, please don't all cry "well, I can't GSirett", just a guess based on the local demographics )." Hello? (Sorry to be the person in your brackets!) But I have to say that for me, it's just one more thing government, central and local, is using to squeeze us dry. And I guarantee you, they haven't even started yet. We're most of us trying to make ends meet at the moment, and as I said as an example, what's the point in people planning to turn down the heating a notch or two to save a ?100 or so on gas if they're then hit with this extra ?125. The Sainsbury shop gets higher all the time, so does petrol etc, and I'm telling you, when Italy goes down the pan, which it will, things will really get tough around here. Gripe over. Otherwise, I think you're great!
  3. Just saw this on james barber's 'can i help' thread (someone may have already pointed it out, but I'm amazed by it): "To me the East Dulwich Forum is a useful place to quickly find out what some people in East Dulwich think. But it only one format and although online is one of my preferred comms methods it is only one type. Some people have multiple EDF logins and its unclear where people live. So I can only take input via the EDF with a 'pinch of salt'." Well james, I live in Oglander and have only one login and am against the CPZ for reasons I've already given. How easily he dismisses our views here, having decided most of us posting against on this issue don't live in the affected areas and have multiple logins. Though he says 'some people' he must mean most as it has led him to take input via EDF with a pinch of salt. I know he's suggested how we do go about making our views heard - ie, use official council questionnaire with it's blatently trick question - but he knows this method will be ineffectual. Stating 'online is one of my preferred comms methods' is also disingenuous. You speak with forked tongue, james.
  4. And as for you, KR988, "...are willing to pay for it." What is the point of people trying to reduce their heating bills by turning down the temperature if they are to be hit by an additional yearly bill of ?124 to park outside their homes? Does the word "recession" mean anything to you? And do you want our local businesses to go down the Swanney? I personally would indeed probably suffer finding it harder to park as I'm in Oglander and commuters will flock here, but the answer is not to bring us within the CPZ zone, but to fight the CPZ zone in Grove Vale, surely?
  5. Otto, you can have a very reasoned and neutral conversation with James Barber, but he then does nothing. Zilch. Nada. And yes, I may well sound bitter, but it's true. East Dulwich councillor can I help indeed. He's all mouth and trousers, or all mouth and no trousers, whatever the saying is.
  6. Or in other words James, let them eat cake!
  7. The only reason James Barber is defending the scheme is that he thinks residents around Grove Vale are made of money. He is so out of touch with the realities of everyday life it beggars belief. I'm thinking that nose-in-trough New Labourite John Prescott who, when he was forced from office, stated he couldn't believe how high rents and public transport costs had become. Nor has James read the hundreds of posts on other sites from residents living with paid-for parking bays in CPZ areas where they're constantly booked for not parking in their bays properly, or are erroneously or rather bogusly booked or clamped for parking in their bays, or for failing to renew their yearly fees on time despite sending in the forms on time (and what's that all about, having to renew your application every year - surely only to catch people out and get even more money from them). Urgh. Grr. Frothing at mouth now.
  8. I'm double-posting here (first on CPZ fees will rise). But here we go: I'm not surprised at James Barber's stance on this. Oh yes, we all have money to pay for our parking bays, no question. He doesn't even envisage it as another way of squeezing households - and local businesses who would suffer from diminished trade. It was the same when I went to him with the horrific problems I've had over the years having Southwark Council as a freeholder, and his only solution was for me and my upstairs neighbour to buy the freehold. In fact he said it so many times despite my telling him we didn't have that kind of money, that I had to tell him to stop. He believes, or wants to believe, that just because we live in East Dulwich/Peckham borders we're loaded. He has no idea whatsoever of how hard people are finding it to make ends meet in these stricken times, which as a councillor is shocking. He's living in gentrified Waitrose land.

  10. As I guessed, he's just selling. (look at when he joined and his one other post. Sad and desperate.I imagine proceeds will go straight into his pocket as I hardly think the charities he says the money's going to would endorse a calendar like that!)
  11. MissNoodlesHats: "having said that , and looking at your previous posts its a shame it was not a brick that hit you straight in your gutless .....cashews" What??!!!?
  12. Oh, and I do still have my card. And there was no reason to be suspicious as I was given the ?40 I'd asked for. It's only on internet bank statement it's showing two transactions of ?40 each.
  13. It was chip and pin, as with all cashpoints. I didn't forget how much I took on Sunday. I know it was ?40 as that's how much I needed to take with me to Somerset to pick up puppy and pay breeder the ?37.50 for first injection. And I don't eat around Victoria station, where this other place is! If anyone has used the Sainsbury cashpoints at Dog Kennel Hill, do check your statements for doubling. I can't be the only one. I finally got to speak to someone else at Lloyd's who has cancelled my card and said they will look out for any 'attempts' on my card as of today, which will fail but also show up, so we'll know if someone is using a cloned version, if that's what's going on.
  14. Actually, I've just realised I actually took ?40 out on Sunday at the cashpoint so what it seems to be doing is then showing two transactions for the same amount on the same day (as well as transactions on other dates when I simply didn't use the Sainsbury's cashpoints). What's that about? Is the machine faulty or tampered with?
  15. I've just realised about nine transactions on my bank statement for cash withdrawn from different dates from Sainsbury's Dog Kennel Hill cash machines outside the store since July are bogus. I used the cashpoint there once about 3 months ago for ?10 and once on Sunday for ?20. Bank statement says I made two transactions on Sunday for ?40 each! A few other transactions show two on the same day as well. Rang Lloydstsb fraud, and first woman said it was impossible to take card details and pin, and I should ask 'family members' if they've been using my card and pin. I told her I live alone, no family in London, I don't share my card with anyone, my pin number is in my head only and my cat cannot use chip and pin. Has anyone else had a similar experience at Sainsbury's cashpoints? And is it possible to take my card details and pin from these machines. And if so, which I believe it is, why are scammers not using my card elsewhere? (although there are also three dubious transactions using all my details at a takeaway in Victoria I've never used)
  16. Yes, can we please stop posts that start: Mobs of youths moving down blah blah street.
  17. Levered open cleanly a locked and incredibly 'secure' double-glazed window. I was even able to close and relock it! Some time during day. Police and forensics lovely - and fast getting here. Neighbours said two dodgy young men (one black one white) came to his door about 6pm saying they were collecting for unmentioned charity, but no clipboard or anything - casing? (And please coun. James Barber, don't even think of hijacking this thread with your sodding party-political platitudes and statistics!).
  18. Amazing! Moving away from Snake's Lane a bit, I know, but I'm fascinated to see Upland Road was already there - and more incredibly there's an ancient barrow! It looks like it might fall just within the border of Dulwich Park. Does anyone know about this - can it still be seen?
  19. (Ok, so I started a thread about southwark council as a freeholder in this section (general ED) because so many people in East Dulwich and borders are southwark council leaseholders. However, it was lounged - and as you know, most forumites don't even visit the lounge. I messaged admin and the reply I got said southwark council was as relevant to people in East Dulwich as fuel prices or climate change. Discuss....
  20. xx
  21. Phones are back! Well, in Oglander anyway. Initially I picked up the phone and it was dead, no tone, but then I had a brainwave and decided to dial someone, and lo and behold the tone came back and it worked. Internet also back. So do dial out to activate and hopefully you'll find you're up and running too.
  22. I rang Sky last night and I was the first of their customers to report it to them. I was eventually passed to a technical person who was aware of the problem and yes, it was damaged due to people trying to steal the cable. He rang BT while I was holding and then told me they expect us to be up and running some time on Sunday.
  23. Hello, my landline is with Sky and since yesterday evening have had no phone or broadband. I'm on Oglander Road.
  24. williamangel: How late do they sell trees on your forecourt, if they haven't already sold out? You don't happen to know if they will be selling some more on Christmas Eve, do you? My work hours have prevented me coming along. Thanks.
