  1. EK famous for 2 things. 1. Making the jump and sticking the landing. 2. Making the jump and failing to stick the landing. As you well know SurfBob, my failure to stick the landing looks like winning this bout. Unlikely to run but will be there for the full session. May enter the HMB class and walk it slowly. Too many bones.
  2. 'Blue Shirt Pandemic Could Affect millions!'
  3. The bus. The sparkly new, comfortable-seated, less environmentally damaging, piss-riddled bus.
  4. I got on one of these last night. It stunk of piss.
  5. The detail of whether this thread is about a stabbing or a mugging that involved a knife being used is a bit irrelevant I think. Yes, I know the name of the thread was amended by admin but I think that was more in response to the direction the dicussion had gone. It had definitely taken a hysterical turn at the time Admin made that change. We already have too many 'news' reports and headlines these days containing the word 'could', 'potentially', 'possibly' etc. News should be about facts. What did happen, or what will happen. Subverting a thread about a violent mugging into an imagined reality of maniac crack addicts roaming the streets wielding knives is just more of this 'be afraid' bullsh*t. It's not constructive or helpful. It isn't real, so it doesn't contribute. Didn't somebody once say 'the only thing we have to fear is fear itself'. Never been truer... Although he should maybe also have given a second thought to lone gunmen in book depositories to be fair. Or was it?
  6. Much appreciated SophieS. verybadknievel.
  7. Sophiesofa, Not sure I like the evil part...ahem, but that about sums it up for me. Not live in fear.
  8. Google 'stabbing in Greenwich', there's plenty of coverage.
  9. Yep Mark, could be a coincidence that they've raised the priority of that specific environs. Despite what they have said to you - which I believe to be true - I can't help thinking this increased priority and the profile of that shooting might be connected.
  10. Cynical maybe but that looks to me like classic knee-jerk policing. We need to be seen to have responded to the Barry road murder so we'll upgrade that immediate area to a 'priority patrol area'. Even though we know that the murder was not random but a specific targeted incident and not endemic of a general gun-crime risk in that area. And they've charged two guys for it already anyway I believe. Why don't they just place a permanent bobby on the spot where the murder happened? It would be as effective a response to that murder. Pointless. And before anyone jumps on me for suggesting the police shouldn't bother, I'm not. I'm saying they shouldn't waste resources on these type of 'responses' to one-off high profile incidents. They should be seeing a bigger picture, that surely is what they produce all these stats for isn't it? So that they know where the trends are. Or is that not what they do with the stats?
  11. Apologies Lenk, you're right. I wonder what the Peckham Forum euphemism for ED is... something for another thread perhaps.
  12. Hmm, if it's Peckham you're alluding to - yes, I know it's there, I live there. I like it. Not sure about the distinction between female and male in this particular instance though. And I don't know that inventing a maniac knife wielding crack addict desperate for a fix is particularly constructive. Why not just make it a serial killer? I'm not belittling the fact that someone was attacked with a knife here, but I think sticking to what we actually know happened might be a better foundation for dicussion about it.
  13. Mikecg you seem to be terrifying yourself into quite a state. You now have 'maniac knife wielding crack heads...desperate for a fix' roaming the streets. I think the crack head desperate for a fix bit is an upgrade on your previous knife wielding maniac post. I thought we were talking about a bag-snatch gone bad. Not a good thing obviously, but lets not get hysterical, it ain't Hamsterdam out there. Unless the gradual buildup of hysteria in your messages is a subtle comment on the prevalent fear-stoking mood in media, government, and society. In which case, nicely done.
  14. I have it on good authority that HelpMaBoab is en route to God's country and unlikely to make it back online until Tuesday at soonest. Start time for Barry Barry Run 1pm I believe. To answer the other two questions Brendan, the only way 'roller-skates' are permitted is if you strap 2 No.12s to your feet. Likewise No.12s. Permitted only when strapped to feet.
  15. Brendan, the Police don't work for us. Not any more.
  16. Roll on The Barry Barry Road Race '09 - bring some much-needed joy back to Barry Road.
  17. If you keep Peckham Rye station within range of where you live it basically doubles the number of trains in and out of London Bridge because two lines meet between East D and Peck Rye. You can pretty much always get on whatever train you want, often seats available even at peak times if you get on at the back end (why doesn't everyone?). Usually on time or within 5 minutes anyway, and there's a train 0753, 0756, 0808(?), 0816, 0826, 0838 etc - pretty frequent at peak.
  18. I f*#$ing hate Razorlight! Pre-planned playlist! Now if we sit in there the way we used to sit in I72, how many times will we hear it go round? I can only speak for my own 'we' of course, but its not the type of 'we' to pop in for a couple of drinks. Even when I72 wasn't as good as it used to be, the music was still. Still, give it a go, benefit of the doubt, don't jump to conclusions etc....already know how it's going to turn out.
  19. Bellenden is great. Been living off Bellenden (towards Camberwell Grove) for a couple of years and never had any cause for concern. Only time I've had an 'incident' was at Goose Green so Peckham, East Dulwich, wherever, it comes down to luck. Place and time. I often find myself walking home late from friends' in Nunhead which means passing through Rye Lane and to be honest, while it's buzzing (great) during the day, there hardly ever seems to be anyone around at night when all the shops are closed. But anyway we were talking about Bellenden and I'd recommend it strongly to anyone who is thinking about moving there. Maybe not a 'village' per se but compared to most places in London it does feel a bit like that, sort of out of the way, but close to 'destinations' such as LL or Rye Lane. Some good pubs, nice cafes, Review bookshop, Ganapati, Jamaican food, and plenty of the less pretty more practical stuff; late shop, great transport links to London etc. And great bollards.
  20. Rosscoe, for someone with so many 'better' things to do with your time, I'm amazed you bothered to scroll to page 4 of this string just to insult a bunch of strangers. Suggest you go for a run yourself, a long one perhaps, off a short pier.
  21. Bald Eagle, run along the kerb. ek
  22. Marmora Man - always pissed me off that that grotty pub chain nicked the name 'Moon Under Water' from Orwell, a joy to see it used in it's proper context. Thanks. Especially sad that the idea of the Moon Under Water (like an inverse Room 101) should be associated with such a dire chain. Suppose it happened to Room 101 as well really. Anyone been to the JFK pool hall on Rye Lane? Now there's a place with a rough and ready feel to it, and open properly late..
