  2. Always had super meat from Craig the butcher opposite the sub post office near the ploug and you don't have to Q for hours unlike elsewhere in East Dulwich!
  3. Work it out for yourself - and don't waste your time putting up rubbish posts
  4. After a meeting in Dulwich library which attracted over 150 interested people it was decided to start a local Dulwich & District U3A. The start up meeting is being held at Christ Church on Friday 9th May. The church is in Barry rd opposite the plough pub and Dulwich main Library. There will be an opportunity to learn about the Dulwich outdoor art gallery and sign up for a wide range ( over twenty )interest groups ranging from - Archaeology to Ukulele. The University of the Third Age (U3A) movement is an unique and exciting organization which provides, through its U3As, life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities. Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for its own reward: the sheer joy of discovery! Members share their skills and life experiences: the learners teach and the teachers learn, and there is no distinction between them. The U3A movement is supported by its national organisation, the Third Age Trust.
  5. The butcher at the plough is very good.Excellent beef n bacon n rabbit. Believe a lot of his stuff comes from his dad's farm near Halstead
  6. If you cannot afford a house in this area you have to look elsewhere , it's that simple ! I would like to live in Knightsbridge ( as I once did years ago ) but now can't afford to so I have to slum it in Dulwich.
  7. We had a super crown turkey and best beef ever last Xmas
  8. Had a very rude young man call today , selling dishcloths etc I think. He had a laminated card round his neck that said official hawker as far as I could make out ( is there such a thing ?) he was extremely rude when I told him very politely that I did not buy at the door. Swearing as he went along my path he turned back to show me the large wad of cash he had ! Who buys from these guys ?
  9. They have a letter form St Chrisophers on dislpay. They donated over five thousand pounds to the charity last year and clearly state ?5 donated for each tree sold. If they open for thirty day that means about thirty five trees sold a day. Presume the charity has no way of checking this, but they do seem very busy and keep late hours. I think it's better to support local traders that are with as all round. We got a super tree from the florist on the corner opposite library and will make a gift aid do traction to St Christopers, which means the tax man has to chip in!
  10. I like a challenge - like all typical men I don't read the instruction anyway - willing to give it a go - cant be that difficult - let me know - toolbox ready
  11. Even after I had mine burnt off at Dulwicy Podiatary they told me that the inside of banana with the dressing will help!
  12. Florist / mini garden centre near Barcellona is very good - best to buy from local traders hoe are there fr us all the year round and need our support. They have an excellent range of good quality plants at appropriate times of year at fair prices. There are guys in the Plough pub car park selling tree for St christopers hospice. I would be interested to know what proportion goes to Charity.
  13. Outside row of shops nr the plough pub and local sainsbury in Lordship lane
  14. Outside row of shops nr the plough pub an local sainsbury in Lordship lane
  15. How did you appeal?- first stage is by phone or online with only a chance of a brief explanation- they never listen at this stage. stage two is to fill out appeal form they send you and append letter giving full details etc Stage three is in front of a independent assessor who WILL listen to reason Please DO appeal - this fine is just daft- I am happy to advise on appeal as I have been successful several times ( not of course when its a fair cope, if you are even two minute late returning to a meter its your fault so of course i would shut up and pay )
  16. The appeal procedure is in three parts 1 by phone or online - at this point they don't listen - response is almost always the computer/ photo evidence shows you have committed an offence 2 by letter setting our your case in detail - include your own photos , quote name and addresses of any witnesses you have , etc 3 appear befor an independent adjudicator - often council don't turn up because they know case is weak Good luck Ps wich you could charge them for the amount of time/ money it takes to deal with this because they DON'T listen at stage one
  17. this one one example just shows that we should have electable bodies ultimately responsible for schools!
  18. I think these online courses almost expect you to cheat if you want to. its on your conscience! If you get someone to invigilate you how could they check out that they were not a relative/friend or that you had not bribed them etc I am a part time teacher so willing to help if its really necessary
  19. Parking fees are often introduced in this sneaky way. They will have to pay someone to regularly check that cars have not overstayed the 4 hour limit, the few penalty charges that get paid will not be enough so then they will say they have to introduce a charge to pay for the enforcement.- just wait n see!
  20. If lots offers above asking price have been made that shows that people are prepared to pay that daft price !If I was selling I'd ask for even more. It's just supply and demand. The market is also being distorted by the'buy to let brigade'they are buying propery because pension rates are so poor and returns on saving are almost none existent after tax.
  21. Or try JAGS Red Post hill,SE24 9JN,0208 613 6500, seems good value also local council run,Dulwich leisure center ,Crystal palace Rd,SE22 9HB,but have seen some critical posts on this forum about the management company that runs the facility for the council
  22. Think these bins are run by commercial copmpanies- Its much better to take your stuff to a charity shop where they will get a decent income from them and buyers can pick up a bargain. I was told buy one charity shop not to worry about even bringing tat ( but not worn shoes )as they get ?5 a bag when they sell this to commercial guys as 'rags'. However some charity shops are are a bit more snooty so do check. I might add NEVER leave anything on your doorstep to be collected in bags that drop through your door unlees it is from a known charity. If you read the very small print on the bags lots that sound like a charity are not- and only give a tiny proportion of total income to charity
  23. well these bins are recycle bins and they are recycling so thats got to be good. I suspect that most of my carefully recycled stuff gets buried or burnt anyway. Lewisham have a waste incinerator SELCHP near millwall football that needs to be fed loads of rubbish in order to generate much needed electricity.
  24. If the coop are daft enough to think that people are stupid and want to shop 24/7 then let them. I cant see there being a huge number of cars fighting for a parking place at 2 am.Most big supermarkets have stopped all hours opening because there was NOT enough demand.
  25. Its cheap compared to the poncy Ritzy and it shows films- compliants should be directed to management - people have too much time on there hands to be posting and this issue- ( yes including me ! )
