  1. They are not from 'rehabilitation schemes'. There are no such schemes that sell door-to-door. I have checked this myself with the probation services and been told by them that it's a scam. Trading Standards say: “Don’t deal with cold callers. Full stop. At the most innocent, they’re selling overpriced goods. At the more sinister end, they're assessing the potential for more serious crimes". It wouldn't hurt to report to the non-emergency number, 101. As Sandyman says, the police may use the information to direct future resources.
  2. Try Sarah, 07956563129, there's a thread somewhere called 'Driving Instructor Recommendation - Sarah'. We found Sarah through this forum and our daughter learnt with her in a few weeks of fairly intensive bursts and is now a good, confident driver.
  3. There are many threads about this, most of which agree it's a scam. It's definitely not an official ex-offenders rehab. scheme: I got this reply from the Home Office: Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) were established in order to deliver rehabilitation services in England and Wales to low and medium risk offenders. The CRCs are not involved in such door-to-door selling schemes and we do not condone such activity. We firmly believe that offenders should be integrated back into the community in a more positive manner than this. These schemes are run by private companies, not the CRCs.
  4. Dazzi, it's definitely not an ex-offenders rehab. scheme: I contacted the Home Office a while back to ask that and got this reply: 21 Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) were established in order to deliver rehabilitation services in England and Wales to low and medium risk offenders. The CRCs are not involved in such door-to-door selling schemes and we do not condone such activity. We firmly believe that offenders should be integrated back into the community in a more positive manner than this.
  5. Another recommendation for Niko. We have been using him for a couple of years and he is always reliable and helpful. This week we had a leak from a pipe valve. Niko sourced a replacement valve and fitted it quickly. Very pleased. Thanks Niko. His mobile is 07818607583.
  6. Peckham Town Football Club. They play on Dulwich Common and do loads of good work: http://peckhamtownfootballclub.com/
  7. Great minds think alike. The Dulwich Society has been making a list of defibrillators in Dulwich:
  8. Nigello, the Dulwich Society had been monitoring the tree with Southwark to be sure it was beyond saving. They are now working with the Council and Margaret Evison, Mark's mother, to get a replacement tree as soon as possible. I got this information from the Society's monthly Newsletter as I was worried about the tree too (I would periodically weed beneath it to keep it tidy). If anyone has any advice on things like preventing salt damage perhaps send an email to [email protected].
  9. Bell House runs film courses for young people, they my be able to put you in touch with one.
  10. Yes, what First Mate says. David Crystal and his son Ben have done a lot of research into how Shakespeare's plays would have been spoken (Original Pronunciation as it's known). Here is Ben with a Hamlet soliloquy: edited for clarity
  11. Can't recommend Niko highly enough. We had a leak from our bath, the source of which which was proving difficult to pin down. Niko is very knowledgeable and was able to suggest two possible solutions. He has done an efficient and very tidy job and we are very happy - no more leak! Plus he is reliable and comes when he says he will. His mobile is 07818607583.
  12. Adam there are many threads about this, most of which seem to agree it's a scam. It's definitely not an ex-offenders rehab. scheme: I contacted the Home Office a while back to ask that and got this reply: As a result of the Government's recent probation reforms, 21 Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) were established in order to deliver rehabilitation services in England and Wales to low and medium risk offenders. The CRCs are not involved in such door-to-door selling schemes and we do not condone such activity. We firmly believe that offenders should be integrated back into the community in a more positive manner than this. These schemes are run by private companies, not the CRCs.
  13. There are still a few on the Dog Kennel Hill estate: on Quorn Road near the Payless Food & Wine. The Dulwich Society has offered Southwark Council an information board to complement them.
  14. I lost my tortoiseshell varifocal glasses in a navy blue hard case, somewhere along East Dulwich Grove from Calton Avenue to Melbourne Grove, or along Ashbourne Grove to Lordship Lane.
  15. Midivydale there's an event coming up at Bell House which focuses on how technology can not only help dyslexic learners but also build their self-esteem.
  16. Really happy to recommend Tony of TDR Property Maintenance. He came out quickly to price a decorating job and helpfully gave me a couple of options. While he was at the house I showed him a small job that could perhaps be done at the same time. Tony fixed it there and then! When the dates he could do the bigger job didn't fit in with our plans he was happy to wait for us to get organised. Will definitely be using TDR again.
  17. Would like to recommend Walsh Glazing in Half Moon Lane. We have just used them for the third time and are happy with the standard of workmanship and the service we got. They have replaced panes of glass where our double glazing has blown (and condensation has got inside) and have just replaced a whole broken window. 020 7924 0333
  18. We found 3 keys and a broken Nectar card on a brown leather key ring in the woods behind Sainsbury?s. We handed them in to Sainsbury?s at Dog Kennel Hill
  19. Agree with everything on this thread. Niko is a great plumber. We have used him many times and he is always courteous, on time and does a good job. He has just fixed two dripping taps for us and even cleaned the limescale mess from one of them. Highly recommended.
  20. Bell House, 27 College Rd is an educational charity and might have space: https://www.bellhouse.co.uk/
  21. Depending on how quickly you want to do this Bell House in Dulwich has an event about setting up LPAs etc on Saturday 21 September. There will be experts from St Christopher's among others and also people who have personal experience: https://www.bellhouse.co.uk/events/2019/9/21/learning-to-care-planning-ahead (I volunteer there and can vouch for how helpful similar sessions have been)
  22. I asked the probation service about these door-to-door salesmen and got this reply: 'As a result of the Government's recent probation reforms, 21 Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) were established in order to deliver rehabilitation services in England and Wales to low and medium risk offenders. The CRCs are not involved in such door-to-door selling schemes and we do not condone such activity. We firmly believe that offenders should be integrated back into the community in a more positive manner than this. These schemes are run by private companies, not the CRCs.' This doesn't mean the people selling are not bona fide, but they are not part of any government scheme.
  23. This could be a really stupid (though genuine) question but why are we separating our garden and food waste now? I thought the recycling facility could manage them both together?
