That?s the biggest load of BS I?ve ever heard (with respect Bic Basher). Totally different demographic, in every sense. And different times of the day. If your argument held water, why was Iceland (which basically stocked similar offerings) not able to penetrate Londis? More like, gentrification has contributed towards the landlord seeing other successsful middle class offerings on the lane, and decided to jump on the bandwagon by shifting out anything remotely working class, and replacing it with yet more accelerated gentrification. Reserving car space with wheelie bins
Louisa replied to maritap's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It is not a secret that I still believe that a space directly in front of your property, as a matter of default, should be a priority space for the use of the resident who occupies the house directly in front of that space. It isn?t a legal thing, it?s about decent citizenship and doing the right neighbourly thing. This isn?t just about cars, it could be about skips, deliveries, urgent need for a ambulance etc In these busy times it is clearly difficult to achieve this when we have out of town space stealers actively shunning said convention and ignorantly parking wherever they can. I also appreciate that neighbours may struggle for a space too, I?m not ignorant to these facts. I am merely pointing out, that is is common courtesy and community spirited to keep kerbside spaces outside of properties, primarily for the use of the resident within that vicinity, as frequently as possible. And when the roads have quietened down, others should be mindful of that fact. I have had many a argument with people over this outside my house, and would do so again. If I need to reserve a space I believe it is my right to do so. It is common sense surely? Louisa. -
Sue, I agree it isn?t a charity, neither was Iceland. If a business model isn?t working, it?s time to move on. However, if the James Barber post is correct, it can?t become a coffee shop/restaurant either. If that?s the case, what will it become? This space is not big enough for anything else. No big chains will be interested. Unless it?s taken on by another convenience store offering. Louisa.

Comparing M&S with a 24/7 offey/general convenience store is a stretch to say the least. Completely different offering. This place comes in handy for lots of reasons. We don?t need more coffee, or restaurants. This has to remain for the use of the whole community. We?ve lost enough useful shops in recent years, this one needs to stay. Louisa.

Reserving car space with wheelie bins
Louisa replied to maritap's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Businesses with white vans, leaving them parked outside your property, is annoying. But isn?t illegal. Indidividuals with private cars from outside the area, leaving them parked outside your property, is annoying. But isn?t illegal. My point is, you can park your vehicle where you like on a public road if it?s not obstructing anyone or causing problems. BUT, it is extremely rude and not at all community spirited to do your upmost to remove that vehicle within a certain period of time, at the discretion of the vehicle owner. I have nothing against a person from the street behind mine parking outside my house when they can?t park on their own street because of inconsiderate out of town drivers stealing those spaces. But I would think it was perfectly appropriate of me to expect them to do everything within their grasp to endeavour to get that car back on their road when traffic calms in the evening or later in the day. Yes I have reserved a space with wheelie bins when I?ve been back and forward to hospital and need a space outside my property without being forced to walk miles to my front door. I have also reserved a space when I have been expecting big deliveries from the likes of B&Q or Homebase. I am not ashamed of that fact. Louisa. -
No MOT doesn?t always invalidate the insurance, but it can do. It depends on the terms of the agreement. Either way, no MOT is a risk to the driver and other road users. Louisa.

The forum seemed more fun between 2007 and around 2013. But that?s probably just because the rose tinted glasses make it seem that way to me. I do miss a lot of the regulars, but then again they were clubbed together and they often did make life hard for some of us. Although, I did enjoy play fighting with them. The forum seems to be going through a transitional stage. We?ve lost old familiar faces, but gained new ones. We?ve kept some elements of the old forum and integrated them into the new informative, and much less confrontational style exhibited by most. Life is definitely easier for some of us. There are exceptions though. Yesterday?s bizarre thread about Lib Dem?s with wrist problems confirmed that. Louisa.

And so far KK only you have managed to link clean and pleasant with ethnic cleansing and sweeping the disadvantaged out of sight. What?s so wrong about wanting a sanitary and inviting environment for everyone? So places, outside of London which are MUCH poorer than Peckham would love to have this level of attention and funding, but unfortunately are overlooked. If anything, we should be grateful that funding is going in to improve the environment for people who live and work around the station. If you want to have a conversation about the evils of gentrification I?m very happy to partake, but cleaning up a filthy station forecourt for the benefit of everyone isn?t part of that in my eyes. Louisa.
-
I make absolutely no secret of supporting the sentiments of the OP. I remember Rye Lane when it was clean and tidy and believe me, it had plenty of character back then. People trying to justify squalid, filthy conditions because it?s ?cool? or ?fashionable? are completely missing the point here. We don?t need gentrification in Peckham, that?s already begun without consultation anyway. But, we do need a clean and pleasant environment for visitors and locals alike. Cleaning up the station area, and offering some new station arches available for retail or cafe useage cant be a bad thing surely? Louisa.

To be fair, lots of people tend to club together in a pack mentality on this forum. I?ve experienced it, I?ve seen it done to others, it?s not pleasant. I am not at all defending the OP here. Blatant trolling can be just as annoying and damaging to the forum. My initial reaction was more to do with the shear exasperation at yet another self absorbed thread, miles off topic (if there even was a topic), and another argument with familiar, as well as new (or reincarnated) forum users. And people had the audacity to say myself and another regular on here were the primary cause of this forum becoming boring and predictable. Louisa.

What a bizarre thread. Yet again, onlookers in the outside world will be voting with their fingers when it comes to contributing to this forum. Ever decreasing circles, round and round we go, same old conclusions. Louisa.

I sympathise with the OP. On a daily basis I am confronting these situations. As a pedestrian it is often a high risk game to cross any of the side roads off of LL, as many cars still think 30 is appropriate in a densely populated residential area. In this weather especially, it only takes someone to slip on ice or snow and potentially you could end up in hospital or worse. What also angers me, are ignorant pedestrians. I always stick to the 20 speed limit regardless of whether I have some angry person up my rear egging me to go faster. More often than not, the two fingered salute deals with said situations. Some pedestrians do not bother to thank drivers for stopping, often when they walk out into the busy main road and grind the traffic to a half rather than use allocated crossings dotted up and down the lane. Ignorance. Foxy is of course correct in saying, the 20 speed limit probably reinforces a climate in which drivers believe it is safe to half pull onto the busy high street assuming oncoming vehicles are doing 20 and will safely stop in time. Perhaps we should consider lowering the speed limit to 15? Louisa.

Just a heads up. The Met Office have issued a Amber warning for heavy and drifting snow across Greater London from 4pm tomorrow until 9am Sunday. Be aware that this warning could potentially be changed, or even upgraded. Think before you make unnecessary journeys. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/mobile/warnings#?date=2018-03-17&id=b90b0092-013a-d827-7f45-2dde6a028e00 Louisa.

The greasy spoon on Grove Vale. Brown sauce for me! Louisa.

Interesting thread. The problem we have, as a nation, is that we are pretty isolated on the world stage currently. We are weakened by Brexit and the current US administration isn?t massively keen on upsetting Russia and Putin (for whatever reason). If it is proved beyond doubt that the Russian state is some way involved in this recent incident, Theresa May has to juggle UK defence and security interests with all sorts of financial and investment implications for London and the UK in general. Potentially, she could do a lot to put pressure on Russia and prove that we mean business when it comes to dealing with this sort of awful act, but depending on the outcome of who they point the finger at, it would seem to me that as a nation isolated on the world stage more than ever, any action taken would probably be too little too late, unfortunately. New Southwark Form to request a CPZ now online
Louisa replied to jimlad48's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I?m with you on this jimlad48. Parking has become horrendous on my street, so much so that many residents now don?t even bother removing the vehicle for important journeys, purely because they risk not being able to find a space close by their home on return. It does literally make you paranoid, you find yourself looking out the window for free spaces because of concern about your vehicle often being parked two or even three streets away. I will happily support a CPZ to prevent day trippers from using the spaces outside my house like a pay and display car park. Louisa. -
If BT agree, and the telephone itself is no longer working or used, it might be worth getting ancommunity renovation project sorted. And turning the phone box into a small trust library. I?ve seen them in Devon and Cornwall before and people even sell eggs and small homemade cakes in them! Louisa.

Perhaps you should take the time to message StraferJack Who will explain the reasons why, if you are really that interested? I personally, don?t see why it?s even relevant to this discussion, but fine. I am not having any sort of argument, I don?t do the passive aggressive thing like so many on here seem to enjoy doing. I?m more than happy to have a perfectly illogical rant in my own time *sarcasm alert* Sorry for yet another slow response btw, you?re just too quick for me, I can?t reply at that rate! I?m just too busy doing other stuff. Louisa.

My point is, you talk as though not attending forum drinks or publicly displaying your real life self on a internet forum is somehow strange? I would have thought most people would be dubious about doing that, it?s not a points scoring thing. If you choose to do that, all power to you. I choose not to, and your point is? Louisa.

Logical reasoning is what you?re asking for from the likes of me and others on the forum, and yet your response to my post is that I am ?trolling?- and that is logical how? Let?s face it, whatever response I give to you on here, I will no doubt be accused of trolling. That?s totally illogical in my opinion. On the point of exposure off of the forum, that is entirely upto the individual. If you like that level of real world interaction then that?s absolutely fine. *Bob* was never pulled up on his real world antics, and yet somehow it?s ok to use that one on me? As I said, never posted under other names and YES I was invited by StraferJack to the drinks on various occasions, and as he would testify I?m sure, extenuating circumstances prevented me from attending. Louisa.

I don?t think anyone needs to panic just yet. There is absolutely no way any deal brought back from Brussels will be approved by Parliament. I think a second referendum will be held before the new year begins. I?m absolutely sure of it. If that happens, polls consistently hint we would vote to remain. Watch this space. Louisa.
-
Sorry for the slow responses Sue, I?ve been really busy. Haven?t had the time! Seems bizarre to me that anyone would post under numerous different alias or identities. Too much time on their hands etc. It still baffles me as to why so many posters here are obsessed by ?logical reasoning?. If that were the case, then major institutions such as religion would also be pulled up every 5 minutes. Logic is subjective. Louisa.

I too wonder how many of these characters exist. Not digging anyone specifically out here, but over the years a number of dubious aliases have popped up on here. I have always kept my screen name and have never posted from another, I am quite proud to say. Whatever people may think of me, they know where I post from. And I certainly never give fake reviews on here. Louisa.
