Personally I enjoy the forum still, no issues for me. I do miss some of the old regulars, but I?m sure they?re still watching and possibly even contributing! So there?s no lamenting the past from me! I?m happy!

It?s easy to pass the buck in these situations isn?t it Sue?

I do not recall any of the defunct regulars specifically raising my name on this forum as a reason for no longer posting. If they genuinely felt I was a valid reason for not contributing any longer, perhaps they should have contacted me directly and we could have resolved any issues.

At no stage did I suggest the forum should be about confrontation. But inevitably, people agreeing for the sake of agreeing is just ridiculous. We all have opinions, and we should be able to discuss things as adults without the pack mentality which often develops on here. It?s a cop out to suggest that because you are frustrated with someone?s opinion, you can?t reason with them and therefore you stop using the forum. Bizarre in fact.

And yes, just to remind you Sue, not that it matters, but you did respond to me TWICE earlier in this thread before I responded. Nothing wrong with that of course, but it does suggest you find more time to reply, which goes along with the fox and his original theory.

  3. I think this forum is quite tame, overall. If anything, the loss of former regulars, often unfairly blamed on myself and fox amongst others, has dampened down the confrontation. The forum has become quite boring IMO. It seems to me, the forum should have been careful what it wished for. Because here are the consequences, loss of regulars, dumbing down of interesting characters, and a forum which has lost its bite.

  4. Sue, I have had the same name on this forum from day one.

The basic figures suggest that you find more time in your day to respond to others on this forum. As well as open up threads yourself. The figures do not lie.

I personally have had a busy few weeks, and I?ve only managed to squeeze the odd post in here and there between other things.

  5. I don?t get why anyone would feel the need to park their vehicle outside someone else?s house, and potentially leave it there for days or weeks at a time. Often large vans which block out the light to a persons home too. It?s just pure ignorance.

I get that parking is at a premium, and if you live on nearby roads you often need to park your vehicle in places you wouldn?t normally because so few spaces are available near your own front door. But, there is absolutely no excuse for parking your vehicle outside someone else?s house for extended periods. It may not be illegal, but it is highly ignorant and confrontational.

  6. I agree with the sentiments of the OP. Lots of elderly people alone in cold conditions afraid to put the heating on. Many on the streets in freezing conditions, relying on the generosity of others. Unless you?ve been in a dark place both financially and mentally, it?s hard to appreciate the things many of us take for granted. I am truly grateful for my situation of being able to put the gas on and keep warm without worrying about the cost (within reason).

I do take exception at the pack mentality against the fox on here though, as per. He does a lot of things for the local community and is vilified and made out to be narcissistic by the usual suspects. Others, who take a similar approach are treated with respect and admiration. The ?look at me? mentality and attention seeking rears it?s ugly head once more.

  7. No one is denying the side effects of budget cuts from central government have had an effect, but other councils have had the same cuts and still manage to maintain highways adequately. Southwark is just a shower of crap, it really is.

They seem to have a magic money pot for vanity projects, such as replacing lampposts unnecessarily in the park. Or re-surfacing roads in good condition. It would not break the bank to invest in two or three gritting lorries which, yes, may well only be used a handful of times over a decade.

  8. We live in a northern hemisphere country, the south east of the country is next to a giant land mass which can get very cold during winter. It?s february. None of this is rocket science, snow happens in winter. The people of the north get more snow than we get, have less resources than we have, and a wider area to cover at regional level. They still manage to grit roads and people still manage to make it to work on time despite the weather. They don?t need chains on their tyres either! It?s just bizarre how London struggles with anything. It?s too hot, there are too many leaves, it?s snwoig, it?s too windy. Get a grip.

  9. I have just had a very angry exchange with someone on the Southwark Council switchboard. My questions were not answered because I was, and I quote ?talking to the wrong department?. I kid you not.

You have to press a thousand buttons before you get a chance to speak to a real person, and then they have no idea who you should speak to about something as important as grittting during a spell of cold weather. Unreal. Meanwhile, council tax goes up for another year and we are expected to just accept it

I am furious, and I?m not even leaving the house today.

Snowing hard? If you can find an inch in what?s settled good luck.

My initial prediction was spot on. Yes we would get snow, no it wouldn?t be much- and it WILL get milder at the end of the week.

Get a grip East Dulwich, the world has not come to an end!

From what I understand JoeLeg, the Londis store has not been profitable for some years, long before M&S arrived. Bare in mind the Iceland store had similar opening hours to M&S.

If Londis no longer wish to remain at this location, a viable alternative which keeps alive the useable community aspect must be found. Yet another restaurant is just not acceptable, nor is a coffee shop.

This site is handy for people who use gas and electric keys, and also I know a lot of elderly people who come here to buy lottery tickets and newspapers. I expect local councillors to fight tooth and nail to keep Londis or something similar at this site.

Looking out the window won?t be able to tell you what?s coming in a few hours time. If you look out the window now it?s dry, partly cloudy and above freezing. A few miles down the road in Sevenoaks it?s two below freezing and snowing.

  13. London will potentially get a few cm?s tomorrow night and into Tuesday. It will feel very cold, but it really will need to snow heavily to settle for any period. My hunch is that the bigger potential for disruptive snow will come towards the end of the week, and will probably herald slightly milder conditions there on in.

Very cold for late February in London - yes. The coldest weather for decades? No.

Snow - probably yes. Extreme snowmageddon - no.

  14. Unfortunately Barry Road and CPR residents would have to take one for the team. This would be for the greater good of the wider neighbourhood. Both those roads would probably work better under this new layout anyhow. Barry Road has a lot of speeding vehicles at present, under this scheme no vehicle would have a chance to speed!
