  1. No don't think it's the artists site. Until recently it was a metalworks, but now seems silent. But it will affect residents on Maxted Road - those in Maxden Court flats back onto the site. Waghorn Street should be less directly affected other than noise and traffic. I do think there is a major issue with traffic on these streets, with Maxted and several other streets especially used as a cut through, the biggest problem being high speeds in a neighbourhood packed with children. It's been good to see some traffic calming measures coming in. Parking is a nightmare during the week - often no spot within a street of the house. Weekends better as less people coming into the area via car for work I guess.
  2. I can see a bit of an issue with fire safety as there is no escape route for most residents to get off the site, or any room for fire brigade to fight a fire from outside 3 of the 4 sides of the development, or get more than one engine close to the site. For me this all raises the question of whether there is a neighbourhood planning forum in the area. If anyone knows of one established or in the process of being established, let me know.
  3. Thanks for your supportive words Rupert. I live in one of the houses backing directly onto the scheme! Not much fun to be dealing with this. I suspect the grounds a similar development of only 3 houses in the identical sister site of Nutbrook Street mews was rejected about 2 years ago: http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/documents/s58757/Report%2033%20Nutbrook%20Street%20London%20SE15%204JU.pdf
  4. There is a planning application made to put 23 housing units on a very small patch of land in between Wingfield Street and Howden street near Bellenden Road, SE15. If you live in this patch it will have a direct impact on you in terms of increased vehicles parked, traffic, and potentially noise, plus other considerations. There is no affordable housing in the scheme. Houses adjacent to the site will lose privacy. We need housing, but possibly not with a scheme like this. You may have different views. Details about the scheme are available on the Southwark planning website and for a short period your views can be heard so log on to make them known. The plans are also available to view via this portal. https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/ Enter reference number 18/AP/1256 Then enter a comment if you have one.
  5. Can anyone recommend a cat sitter locally who won't charge the earth for the Christmas period? Just need a daily visit to feed a couple of kitties. Thanks!
  6. Another recommendation for Mr Fruitcake who entertained my daughter and a load of her friends for a 7th birthday party recently. He knows what he's doing! Kept them happy and entertained for the whole party.
  7. Bit random. Just on the off chance that anyone knows of someone/where locally that would lend or hire a mobile ice cream cart for a fund raising event in a couple of weeks time. We'd need it for a few hours only.
  8. I need a small area of outdoor tiling removed in order to dig out an area to plant a climbing plant. It needs a jackhammer or similar most likely, as I've tried and failed by hand. There may also be concrete underneath - unknown. It's a very small area - about 50cm square, and surroundings tiles need to be preserved. Small job but needs care. Any recommendations?
  9. I had first horrible hospital birth, second painful but fast home birth with the Brierley team who are wonderful. Utter opposite experiences! Tips for the process would be ignore any idea that giving birth is a competitive sport - it's easy to start thinking home births are somehow 'superior', listen to what your partner thinks and wants, be flexible and do what feels right for you as much as you can. You just won't know until it happens how much pain you have (seems to vary hugely!), how long a labour, complications, so it's hard to know how to apply other people's experiences to your own. Expect the unexpected!
  10. I am also looking for recommendations for a bathroom refit. Has anyone worked with a tradesperson or company that they would recommend?
  11. Can anyone recommend a local architect that you've worked with on a project such as side return or other extension? I'm looking for a few ideas to look at kitchen side return, but don't want to use a design and build company as all the prices received are just crazy so far. Thanks!
  12. I am a local parent looking for part-time work in the area as a PA or in general business admin. I have many years experience working for small businesses as an operations and projects manager (in digital media) and my CV includes: - Office management - HR admin - Events planning - Copy writing - Budget management/finance - General secretarial/admin My IT skills are excellent and I am very good at just getting things done without fuss! I would ideally work a day or two/week, which could be split over multiple days, either office and/or home working. If any local businesses are interested, please PM me. Many thanks, Anna
  13. I am running out of inspiration to find an Easter and/or Summer UK holiday place. Anyone got good ideas for a location where a car isn't needed but there's lot to do for a 5 year old, and it's not too much hassle having a 16 mth old along for the ride? And that's NOT sodding Centerparc or similar. Could anyone recommend a nice coastal town or village, a Scottish Island or similar, a friend with a cottage to rent.... Many thanks for any ideas!
  14. I heard back from the owner via email and can confirm it's a business decision. Nothing as simple as a rent-rise, but sounds like the business model might be rethought. I imagine the owner is getting a sense of the local support they have, and perhaps, hopefully, that might be of use if they decide to reopen on the same spot.
  15. I'm gutted. I just emailed the cafe to say how much support there is locally and asking the reason for closure, if they can say. Also wrote that I'd be happy to get together with others (if you're out there, which it sounds like it) if there were something to be done by the community including petitioning the landlord. Perhaps we could at least look at crowdfunding the rent-increase whilst a longer-term solution were made. Anyway, wait to hear back, if they want to say, which they might not. It could of course be just a personal decision as LondonMix says.
  16. I've registered a table at the NCT nearly new sale taking place on Saturday 14th November at the Coplestone Centre in East Dulwich/Peckham. But it doesn't look like I can get help with the children that day so will have to cancel. However I have tonnes of stuff I really need to shift including crib, baths, clothes, toys, pram accessories... Is there someone out there who is going to be selling at this sale and would like to take all my gear to add to their stall and go 50/50 on what of this you sell? I'd also go halves on table cost of course. PM me if you want to discuss.
  17. Can anyone give me an idea of cost to replace up can windows with timber sash windows, for example the cost to do a front bay window? Any local firms to avoid or recommended? Thanks!
  18. It depends how much you want to spend and if you are happy to and can use an off the shelf door. I looked into all this last year and in the end used a company called Voysey & Jones who I would highly recommend. Their service was excellent, the door is really solid and fits perfectly. It was a fuss free experience. The cost was considerably more than using a joiner to fit an off the shelf number but much more affordable than The London Door Company who did not seem to be well recommended. Cost about ?1800 inc vat. Joiner quoted about ?700.
  19. Found in Warwick gardens today.
  20. Anyone got an idea of a reasonable cost for designing, building and planting a small back garden (standard little Victorian terrace)? I guess it's a "piece of string" question but would be good to have an idea. Also any recommendations of local companies used welcome.
  21. A wee problem with a pane of glass broken on a double glazed window and we need some quotes...
  22. My sister-in-law got a video monitor after my nephew had a medical emergency at a few weeks old, so I could understand that she wanted it for reassurance. But without reason to worry I'd not want the extra anxiety video and alarms and wotnot might create. Also do you really want to watch Baby TV of an evening? A monitor with really good sound was enough for me though I would recommend having one with temperature reading at the parent end I think, especially in deep winter/high summer and with a very young baby. I found that really useful.
  23. Hi Jenny, There is a Facebook group for autumn bumps. https://www.facebook.com/groups/633764043373883/events/ If you can't join it then let me know and I think I can invite you by email if you PM me your email address. There hasn't been a meet up arranged for a couple of weeks, but there were some Saturday meets ups at 10am at the dulwich park cafe. Also Wednesday evenings at the Actress pub. I went a long to a couple of Saturdays though last one I went to was only 3 of us. So it would be great to get another one soon. I think I can set one up on the Facebook group for Wednesday evening next week - anyone else up for that? Anna
  24. I would really appreciate any recommendations for getting some laminate wood flooring removed and the original floorboards below restored, sanded and varnished in a small hallway area. Many thanks
  25. I visited and it seems like a good enough place, although no outside space. But it's so hard to tell. Has anyone got any more information about Excel Nursery on Sternhall Lane, having sent your child there or heard anything from friends? Thanks for any advice!
