  5. Thanks Pauline. We really enjoyed creating it, as much as you love it, but don't get too cold sitting out there all day!!

  7. Hello all. Lovely weather for gardeners!!! 1. This months tips start off with a repeated warning for trees in your gardens. The November winds have arrived with the rains. A lethal combination, as the ground gets softened & the winds push them over all too easily. I have already been called out to 3 fallen trees! So please get an EDF reccommended tree surgeon to give you a free survey of your trees, concerning their roots & branches. Good time of year to prune them now they are dormant & without their leaves.Have just discovered that property owners are responsible for trees on their land & the consequences of them injuring anyone if they fall!! 2. Still a good time before the frost gets in the ground to plant or move shrubs. Treat yourself to some winter or early spring scented evergreens or shrubs with berries & leaf colours, also conifers. NOT Leylandii!! Unless you want an argument with your neighbour!! 3. I know I go on about it, but please please rake the leaves from your lawns, or you'll be paying us gardeners for a new one in spring! Give the lawn a last mow & autumn feed ( not too much) then get your mower serviced. 4. Cover your compost heaps to stop them getting too wet, but keep adding your waste garden material to them 5. Check plants are well tied in to prevent wind rock ( a bit similar to glam rock, but not as harmful to the ears!) prune bush roses by at least half with clean secateurs & clear the leaves off the border. 6. Pruning of plants with leaf colour can be pruned hard now to produce plenty of new growth. Prune back coloured stem plants such as dogwoods too. 7. Remember to buy some good quality birdseed to feed our feathered friends & make sure it's well clear of the ground,so the cats don't get a free meal!! 8. If the weather forecasters are to be believed, it's going to be a hard winter. Considering we have had snow for the last 3 winters, they may well be right. So stock up on rock salt if you have a drive/path. Buy your toboggans before they're all sold out. Ask your local gardeners to come & dig you out if snowed in, keeping a more than reasonable glass of port to keep them going. If you find they've gone to the Bahamas, you're paying them too much!! 9. Remember if youre too busy shopping for your kids or your favourite gardener (subtle hint!) to carry out these tasks, then find yourselves a recommended gardener from the forum to do them. We'll all be grateful for the work. Keep warm & dry & happy gardening. Nigel 07961888253
  8. I have found it useful to recognise that I have a choice to get upset at small or large issues of this type. They are the problem of the people carrying them out. As soon as you get upset, you've made it yours!
  9. Have always loved Joanna's. lovely menu, lovely people. Don't know any better restaurant in the area
  10. Wow! What a wonderful post. And so wonderful to see so many people contributing with their experiences & advice. A problem shared is very appropriate. I also came to a very dark time about 10 years ago, and had a bit of an epiphany! I discovered by accident ( coincidence, I could design & build gardens. So I gave up my job & trained under a master Japanese gardener, I now love what I do, which makes me & the people I work for very happy. I believe the money will follow if you do what you live. I did 2 years counselling to come to terms with my many issues & I took up a thing called practical philosophy. The meaning of philosophy is love of wisdom & has given me reason in my life. It is based on eastern philosophies & uses meditation which allows me to see the movement of my mind & get to choose what I think. I no longer worry about anything, I have saved my relationship with my son, who now works with me. I have learned to deal with depression without drugs & am happy within myself. I am now opening up a holistic centre in Kefalonia using wonderful local therapists to teach yoga, Pilates meditation & healing. We live in a very material outward looking world & I came to the conclusion there are many people out there that have gifts & talents to help us, if we choose to ask. There is reason behind everything. Thankyou again for opening up this subject, I'm sure it will be of use to many
  11. Very impressive!! If somebody could just post his phone number, I'll give him a call for my emergency. Thanks
