  1. Hello I'm a parent of a severely visually impaired 4 year old I'm interested in whether there are any parents of children with severe VI that are successfully usingbraille at primary school. We have been advised that our daughter will probably require Braille and may be able to access print. This is a controversial area and there is a lot of debate at the moment in the VI community about the limitations of technology in becoming fully literate for children with severe VI but some functional vision. It seems that the speech to text software and iPad magnification do not lead to proficient literacy and more and more VI adults are wishing they had learned Braille. Interested in hearing from anyone about this Many thanks
  2. Hi i have just seen your post if you need to go privately (the school may not think there is enough of a problem to refer for an ed psych) there is a lovely local clinical psychologist who assessed my nephew for dyslexia. she did an excellent assessment and was really lovely with him. she used to work at great ormond street and her name is Monique Cloherty www.clinicalneuropsychologist.co.uk. good luck!
  3. i really love this place for good food and excellent service - but i've only been in the evenings
  4. I'd get a psychologist to assess her for dyslexia as if she does have it even on a mild level it may affect her academically.the earlier you get a diagnosis the better these children do. It's not just about reading the letters and the background of the text it's about how they process language. My nephew was diagnosed by a local psychologist and now with the right support he enjoys reading
  5. Have you tried Monique Cloherty Clinical Psychologist she did an excellent assessment of dyslexia on my nephew, she's very experienced and used to work at Great Ormond Street and was just so lovely with him. Lives in East Dulwich. www.clinicalneuropsychologist.co.uk. good luck!

  8. Dear stress head you are not alone honestly Read full catastrophe living by Jon kabat zinn it's the book that mindfulness based stress reduction is based on. It's about adopting a new philosophy of living.....So much of the stress of modern living is about our minds being distracted about the past or worrying about the future and things that haven't even happened yet, so much so that we very rarely live in the current moment - the only time that exists. Read this book you won't regret it! Pm me if you need more info x
  9. Shame on you Alex. We have used Hamish Lodge several times and so has half our street. He is well respected in this community and has been for several years. He has always been reliable punctual honest and completes his work to a very high standard. He was sick for goodness sake - what is wrong with you? Hamish Lodge we will definitely use you again.
  10. I went to Le Chardon with my partner, we booked a table beforehand. they seated us right next to the exit for the toilet and near the serving area. We asked for another table and they didn't seem bothered to help us out. Waiting staff were apologetically reaching behind us for cutlery and my partner had to wear his jumper through the entire meal because of the draft. When the bill had they added items to our bill we hadn't eaten and overcharged us for wine. We decided that a ?8 'optional' tip was not appropriate given the quality of the experience, so when we politely said we did not want to pay the 'optional' service we got looked at as if we were aliens and it took another 20 mins to get the new bill - with the service still added on it! We didn't pay the service in the end. To top the experience the food wasn't very tasty and both me and my partner then got a violent case of food poisoning despite eating very different meals. Coming from a waitressing family I cannot believe the poor quality of restaurants these days just because they are located in east dulwich. I do highly recommend the Lombok Thai in Herne Hill. Does anyone know of anywhere else decent to eat in east dulwich?
