If you have to queue for either a walk-in or booked appointment and there?s a delay try not to take it out on those managing the queue / giving the vaccine. They almost certainly didn?t have any say in taking your booking. A thank you as you leave or a Merry Christmas would be appreciated. If you had to queue outside spare a thought for those directing you to queue who could have been outside 3 or 5 hours or the person giving you the vaccine who doesn?t have time to stop for coffee. Personal experience from just two shifts. Yes there are badly organised setups but this wasn?t the sheer volume and need to maintain social distance to keep people safe meant queuing was inevitable (though turn up 10 minutes later and the situation could be completely different - if I?d had time and not been so cold I could have taken a picture of no queue and another of a queue going round the corner and everything in between in my three hours outside). Stay safe, take that book you?ve been meaning to read or listen to that podcast and any more restrictions will be shorter for us all.

Does anywhere have lateral flow tests?
AylwardS replied to tomszekeres's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
After trying 3 local chemists last week I ordered through https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests and they arrived in the post 2 days later -
A message has been posted in General ED Issues to say Tessa Jowell has no queue and are offering Pfizer for 12+

Another option, not exactly ED local but I'm volunteering at a clinic in New Cross, Lewisham (down the road at the side of New Cross Station) tomorrow that does walk-ins for second doses and boosters. Its well organised and the queues when I volunteered there on Friday were moving quickly. The pharmacy next door is also doing walk-ins and if they have availability those queueing for the health centre walk-ins are redirected to the pharmacy so you get your injection at whichever is available first. Details of walk-in clinics in the area can be found at https://selondonccg.nhs.uk/what-we-do/covid-19/covid-19-vaccine/pop-up-clinics/ Waldron Health Centre Waldron Health Centre, Amersham Vale, London, SE14 6LD This clinic is for anyone older than 16 years of age (Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine offered). Second doses offered if it is at least eight weeks since the first dose. You do not need proof of address, immigration status, ID or an NHS number. Booster jabs available if eligible. New Cross Pharmacy, Waldron Health Centre, Amersham Vale, London, SE14 6LD This clinic is for anyone age 16 and older (Pfizer vaccine) and AZ vaccine for people who are 40 and older. Second doses offered if it is at least eight weeks since the first dose. You do not need proof of address, immigration status, ID, or an NHS number. Booster jab available if eligible. There are lots of dates and times so do drop in. Monday to Friday the pharmacy is open until 9pm even if walk-ins at the Health Centre have finished. If the queue looks big it?s probably not as bad as it looks. The part of the queue I was managing looked bad but people were from one end to the other in 15 minutes - quicker than the queue at William Rose on Saturday!

The London Wildlife Trust position statement on parakeets says there is no evidence they out compete native birds for nest sites but they support population monitoring. Also licences are needed to kill them and only in limited circumstances. LWT has frequently asked questions at the end of their position statement. The following was said related to gardens * Deter parakeets as you would other birds - use netting over plants, hang CDs * Use a robust bird feeder * It?s illegal to shoot them in your garden There are more parakeets but squirrels and cats are more of a threat to other birds than parakeets from what I see.

Do we have a Defibrillator in East Dulwich?
AylwardS replied to monica's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is one in M&S next to East Dulwich station -
I know there are those who will need to fill up as their tank is low or they need a car to work / care for someone but if, like me, you are unlikely to need your car this week think do you need to queue, spend more and stop those who need to use their car doing so as they have no petrol while your car is parked with petrol you won?t use. Panic buying has caused the shortage. Its not a shortage - there is fuel its just a supply issue getting it to the forecourts. A post on here said demand had been 500% higher on Saturday. A friend posted on Facebook that she met a tanker driver at 5.30 this morning who couldn?t believe the situation and told her there is plenty of fuel and the only company with a driver shortage (affecting delivery to forecourts) was BP. That?s not how it was reported and what prompted the panic buying which caused the current shortage (and the hike in prices). Are there journeys you could walk / do on public transport for a few days to allow supplies to be restocked and panic buying to tail off? Before you join a queue to fill up, or even get the car out and waste petrol driving round hunting to somewhere to fill up, ask yourself do you really need the car? If you do is the fuel in the tank enough for your needs? If the fuel is just going to sit in the tank you?ve stopped someone else who could have used it and maybe stopped an ambulance reaching someone or someone being able to work and the knock on effects. Looking at it like that do you need the stress of driving and the lost time?
-
If you are thinking of topping your car up ask yourself fo you really need to? Do you know someone who filled up jerry cans? Could they offer fuel to a key worker so they can get to work / someone to do something for someone self-isolating / someone to get to their Covid booster or flu jab appointment?
-
True what the government say or not about there being no petrol shortage and it being a distribution issue the panic buying is causing a shortage. Re the comment about bread in Moscow - rationing came next. Is that where we?re headed? I walked up Grove Vale yesterday past the queue for the petrol station and it was only seeing the news this morning I realised that was what I?d seen. Petrol is needed by some more than others. London, even East Dulwich with the reduced services, is well served by public transport. Some areas of the country aren?t - my sister in the North needs to start work early and there are no nightbuses so her only options are walk, cycle or drive. Walking and cycling are possible but on top of a shift on your feet and carrying equipment not ideal. Ambulances need petrol to run, delivery drivers need petrol for their vans and others need petrol to get to / do their jobs. Before you join a queue to fill up, or even get the car out, ask yourself do you really need the car? If you do is the fuel in the tank enough for your needs? If the fuel is just going to sit in the tank you?ve stopped someone else who could have used it and maybe stopped an ambulance reaching someone or someone being able to work and the knock on effects. Looking at it like that do you need the stress of driving and the lost time? Do you know someone who filled up jerry cans? Could they offer fuel to someone who can?t work / do something for someone self-isolating / get to their Covid booster or flu jab appointment?

whats abbotswood like behind sainsburies?
AylwardS replied to shell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Having been here since the houses were built (in 1996) everything above remains unchanged. There are more cars than there were but I don?t think anyone has done away with the parking space outside their house - a definite plus for London. You now have to plan if you are taking the train at certain times more than you did but between East Dulwich and Denmark Hill there is good access to London Bridge, Victoria and Blackfriars. Noise from the football ground is only an issue when the windows are open. For London its very quiet and background noise in the garden is barely noticeable (though I?m used to a garden as close to the M6 as these are to the railway and lived on an equivalent of Lordship Lane when I first came to London. -
Albrighton Community Fridge - Volunteers Needed! (again!)
AylwardS replied to ruffers's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As has been said it?s a fantastic team and helping is very rewarding. I hadn?t realised, and probably don?t know all that goes on ?behind the scenes? so to speak as I only see what happens when I?m there. If you can spare some time do get in touch via the details in the OP and see if there?s something you could do. Don?t want to be on the shop floor you can help setup and leave before the shop floor opens. Not available during the day but could do a collection in the evening / morning. The food given out needs to be collected before it can be given out. Not able to commit time at the moment? Could you pick up something extra when you go shopping and donate it? Yesterday tins of chopped tomatoes were asked for and cereal is often asked for. -
Quarantine and compassionate reasons to travel
AylwardS replied to angehouse's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry to hear that. No legal advice but here are links to government sites that may be useful. It may be possible for one person to get an exemption to quarantine here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/exemptions-from-managed-quarantine-for-medical-and-compassionate-reasons#compassionate-reasons. It sounds like there will need to be travel to another country so the restrictions there will also need to be checked in case they have changed since you last arrived. If you speak the language and can check the countries site, if not FCO info is here https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice -
I believe the need to register on Grove Vale came in September 2019 for all bays when the restrictions came in to other roads under the East Dulwich area parking zone. I think this is the order and if it covers the bay you parked in then unless the sign was missing an appeal to the Council won?t be successful. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/assets/attach/10536/East-Dulwich-area-parking-zone-ED-notice-dated-19-Sept-2019-.pdf There?s certainly more traffic, and therefore cars wanting to park, on Grove Vale than 20 years ago. Do they all need to park and could some not park and walk leaving space for those who want to use the shops and can?t walk? If the inconvenience makes those who can choose not to park leaving spaces for those who can?t that seems positive to me. Everyone?s circumstances are different but there are probably some who park when they want rather than when they need. Changing that behaviour is a challenge I?m glad not to have. If you don?t want to create an account you can park as a guest. https://support.paybyphone.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/360009405037-Parking-with-a-Guest-Account The easiest way, though you will need a phone that can take apps and a credit / debit card is via the app. More and more drivers have them now. Mayfly you should be able to phone and park as a guest. My dad and father-in-law now have one. My sister was the last to get a bank account and card but now has one. Shops have stopped taking cash so use of cards has increased. There will be some who can?t register easily but most will find it a minor inconvenience and it will probably be worth it for a space?

PCN for driving in Dulwich village, help please!
AylwardS replied to renarde's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I understand how a driver could miss the signage I did but thankfully didn?t get a penalty. I went back on foot and though not great it looks to meet legal requirements. EDHR I still believe what I said could be a consequence. I did say the legal position may have changed. Your experience shows that it might not come to that but it could. The link you have provided may detail your rights and anyone thinking of ignoring a penalty can read that and decide if a bailiff was on my doorstep would I be confident in sticking to my rights? I?m not sure I would if confronted with a bailiff who knocks on people?s doors each day and will have dealt with the situation umpteen times before. The link you provided is guidance not law but as you say does say ?If you do not let a bailiff in or agree to pay them: * they could take things from outside your home, for example your car * you could end up owing even more money? Anyone who has had a PCN needs to decide what they want to do next. I?ve given possible legal consequences as they were and you?ve given experience with the council so anyone deciding should understand what any decision they make could mean. Re what Tilt said ?you? for a formal appeal after the Notice to Owner is issued is the registered keeper at DVLA so if it?s a hire company or company car that won?t be you the driver. One piece of personal knowledge people might want to consider. I know of people who had their car clamped and even taken by bailiffs for unpaid parking charges. Not the first approach taken but it happens. -
Measures in shops / pubs / restaurants post 19 July
AylwardS replied to AylwardS's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Another good trip to Signoria. We?ve had coffee, takeaway coffee and a porchetta roll from outside when it was going when they couldn?t serve customers indoors, evening meal (eat in and taken home) and bought from the shop. All good and service always friendly and good. Will remember to stick with standard cappuccino not large (too large for us). Although officially Covid restrictions have been relaxed there is a small garden and the person doing most of the service at table wore a mask. The boss, mainly behind the counter didn?t but it didn?t make me feel unsafe. -
Face masks with clear panels sold locally?
AylwardS replied to AylwardS's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks Pugwash. I?m happy to do this but not everyone is. Also, if issues with masks with clear panels that came up when we first started wearing them have been addressed then wearing one would be no different to me and might help those who lip read without them needing to ask -

PCN for driving in Dulwich village, help please!
AylwardS replied to renarde's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Anyone who got a ticket be sure you understand the potential consequences of not paying / appealing. I don?t know the latest legal position but I doubt it?s changed too much since I did. Whether you agree with the restrictions or not or think the aim is money making there is a legal order and tickets are issued under legislation. The charge for a ticket, the formal appeals process and when charges can rise are laid out in legislation. These aren?t tickets you can ignore and they go away like ones on private land. Challenge the ticket within 14 days and the council will hold it at the discounted rate while they consider your challenge. If they say no you (if you are the registered keeper not just the driver) can make a formal appeal but pay the standard rate (the charge doubles) if it goes against you. Even if the outcome of the appeal includes a recommendation that the council accept the lower amount it?s just that and unlikely to be acted on. How are your circumstances different to someone else who missed the signs / unknowingly entered the area? If the council lets you pay the lower rate then others will ask to / everyone will appeal (worst case scenario) Still don?t pay it will increase again. You?ll get a letter telling you. Still don?t pay and it will increase again and the County Court will issue an order. You?ll get a letter telling you. Still don?t pay. The order can be passed to bailiffs. They will send letters, the charge will increase and finally they will knock on your door. They can take goods including your car, your car can be clamped on your property. Not paying is not going to get the restrictions removed but will cause you stress if not worse. Vent on here. Ask for advice but be aware of the consequences and decide if they are ones you can accept. -
If you don't fill in the consultation then the council can go ahead with their plans that have probably been put together by someone who doesn't know the area. If you have a better suggestion fill in the consultation and let them know. Though I would say the Council do listen - we lived in the area and filled in four consultations before the Zone Q CPZ was put in and we'd said no previously but the parking had got worse in that time - there have been various planning applications for the dulwich Hamlet football ground area. They've been rejected or amended to take into account objections. Ok the decision isn't a rejection but the final plans approved were better than the original proposal.

sally buying the afternoon times are 3pm - 6pm so you can turn right out of the park between 10 and 3

Thanks Beansprout for mentioning this. I?ll time my visit on Friday to earlier to avoid crowds / loud music. I think wait and see is the way to go as far as the meadow is concerned. Gala seem to have made good pledges and someone has experience of them being responsible. The council have a commitment to biodiversity and have chosen not to mow in some areas so hopefully this is planned. See this page on the council website for more information https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parks-and-open-spaces/ecology. I?d hoped to go once more to see the meadow but the weather has either been too hot or to wet for me lately.

Measures in shops / pubs / restaurants post 19 July
AylwardS replied to AylwardS's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Mons cheese shop Staff are wearing masks and there is a notice asking that you do. There is no no limit on the numbers in the shop. Moxon?s fishmonger. Staff wore masks. There?s been an increase to 3 people / household groups allowed in. We went late afternoon so there was no queue. Tandoori Nights restaurant. The door was open when we walked past. They removed tables during the restrictions and it looks like they haven?t put the middle tables back in so it should be good for social distancing. 500 Degrees restaurant. Staff weren?t wearing masks and tables inside look to be in the same place they were. We?ve not seen it full so social distancing shouldn?t be an issue. Cutlery was brought out as we sat. There is a garden. -

Thanks Soylent Green. I wondered about that, and would be checking it out if I find one. -
I think there was a planning application from 2019 (in the old planning register) that was granted 19/AP/0634 Proposal : Extending the roof structure to accomodate additional office and commercial work space with a terrace https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications-old/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9582154 One of the documents is the list of those consulted. Another is the decision notice which states they have to start works within 3 years.

IlonaM that?s good to know. It looked, when I went into Sainsbury?s, that they are no longer limiting numbers - there was no member of staff on the door. I did go at a quiet time. As businesses are being left to make their own decisions on what measures they take I?d be interested to know what approach other businesses locally are taking. Also some might not have as widely published information as Sainsbury?s being smaller. This is what I?ve seen on Grove Vale / Lordship Lane. Marvellous Greens and Beans As before staff continue to wear masks. Poached (takeaway) Nothing obvious other than hand sanitiser. Staff not wearing masks Jones of Brockley Staff wearing masks, 3 customers in shop at a time, notice on door asks customers to use mask Caff? Nero (takeaway) Hand sanitiser and social distancing markers Staff behind screens not wearing masks. Sign says staff continue to wash hands and clean and asking customers to wear a mask and pay by card / app (a notice has gone up that it?s a cash free store. Can anyone say what Moxon?s and the other shops and cafes near it are doing? I?ve seen the thread saying the bus stop opposite has reopened and the barriers been removed so if there are queues for the shops that?s going to be interesting to walk past.
