  1. The OP makes a reasonable request and thare plenty of responsible dog owners that do but those that don?t can cause fear and extra restrictions. From a dog owner point of view please remember you know your dog is friendly / will come when you call it but the person / child its running at doesn?t. Also your dog could be playing but knock over the person / child and hurt them. We had dogs the whole time I was growing up but I?ve had a few dogs run towards me I was a bit concerned about now I can?t move as fast as I could. Unfortunately there are people who think nothing of hurting dogs and you have no way of knowing if someone your dog is running at will hurt it. Children also need to learn how to approach dogs - we certainly had to ask a few children not to pull our dog?s tail or tell them it was better to approach quietly or let the dog come to you so as not to frighten him. I?ve not had a dog since coming to London due to lack of space / not being able to walk one enough. If you do please bear in mind other people don?t know your dog like you do. If there are signs saying dogs on leads please put your dog on a lead. It might not always be necessary for your dog but there have been / are concerns there might be incidents if dogs are not on leads in that area. The next thing might be to ban dogs from the areas they are now to be on leads. We all need to share limited space and sometimes that means apparently unnecessary rules.
  2. I know there have been numerous posts on here about the local restrictions / road closures and a meeting has been arranged to discuss the recent East Dulwich Closures but could I urge people as well as commenting on here to respond ?officially? to the experimental orders - these can be put in without consultation and people can comment for 6 months. Those comments should be taken into account when the council reviews and takes a decision on whether a permanent order should be made. Call me a cynic but does Commonplace have any legal standing? This forum certainly doesn?t. I was caught by the bus gate in Dulwich Village this morning and have emailed the Highways department and copied in my local Councillor. I?m sure others have their own experiences - good and bad. ?TMO2021-EXP16_LSP Dulwich 2 FAO Southwark Highways department for considering whether the provisions of the experimental order/s should be continued in force indefinitely, by means of a permanent order. FAO Sarah King as my local ward councillor as this affects residents of the ward. I generally support the introduction of LSPs and road closures as I believe more people could walk journeys they do by car. We?ve had our car for four years and it has done less than 20,000 miles as we only use it to travel out of London. When driving in London I expect the journey to take longer than the Sat Nav says and to encounter traffic. That?s just how it is given the number of cars on the road. Habits need to change and leaving it to people isn?t going to work in our lifetime so unfortunately those who support the council?s aims will suffer some inconvenience if they are drivers. I can accept this and adapt my journeys to just travel on main roads but the experimental order for Dulwich goes too far with the inclusion of the restriction on Dulwich Village northbound. I drove from Belair Park to East Dulwich at 9.30 this morning. I thought this would be ok as the LSP restrictions only applied to side roads, not the main road through the village. This was my mistake. I saw the sign but thought I had missed part of it indicating it applied to a road coming up - I was concentrating on the traffic / looking out for pedestrians. I understand the restrictions apply today, although whether they are needed outside school term time I would question, but do not think Dulwich Village should be included. The other restrictions will prompt a reduction in car use and only the reduced number of vehicles will be using Dulwich Village so this appears to me an unnecessary restriction. Also as an East Dulwich resident I only use two routes from Dulwich Village to East Dulwich. The route through the village or travelling up the South Circular and then down Lordship Lane. I consider both of these main roads which should remain available to cars. I don?t choose to drive down residential roads, indeed in areas I know I often ignore the instruction from the Sat Nav and stick to the main roads. Is there another alternative on main roads I am unaware of? I realise the council needs to balance road use and the needs of residents but these restrictions don?t only affect residents of Dulwich Village but also other Southwark residents. It is good to see that emergency vehicles, and therefore ambulance access to the hospital is exempt from the restrictions. There is going to be increased traffic on other routes due to displaced traffic. Please can you consider removing Dulwich Village from the provision of the order should it be made permanent.?
  3. I was caught by the phase 2 restrictions in Dulwich Village today but all the LSP orders are experimental so the same six months to comment should apply. I tried to find a Phase 2 thread to post this on but gave up after checking 15 pages of search results. If any of the restrictions are working or not working for you check out the order on https://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/traffic-orders-licensing-strategies-and-regulation/traffic-management-orders?chapter=5 and there should be details of how to comment. Comments should then be taken into account before the council makes a permanent order. I've also copied my local Councillor on the email as the Dulwich restrictions affect East Dulwich residents.
  4. I think I might have been caught this morning by the same local restrictions. I thought the restrictions only applied to the side roads and was driving back from Belair Park to East Dulwich through the village. As I was on the main road I thought that was ok and I?d missed bit of the sign indicating the restriction applied to an upcoming road. If it comes through I?ll have to pay but when I checked these are experimental orders expiring in 2022 unless the council make a full order (which will mean they need to do consultation) and the provisions of he permanent order may be different to the experimental order. It maybe optimistic but there could be some changes. If you don?t tell them officially what?s not working they won?t know and have no reason to consider a change. Statements (constructive) with how the restrictions are affecting you personally may be taken into consideration - the council can show they?ve listened to users. If you agree or not here are details from the notice on how to make comments. ?The council will in due course be considering whether the provisions of the experimental order /s should be continued in force indefinitely, by means of a permanent order made under section 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. Anyone wishing to object to the making of the permanent orders or make any other representation regarding the scheme would have 6 months to do so, from the date the experimental order comes into force (or, if the order is varied by a subsequent order or modified pursuant to section 10(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, from the date that variation order or modification comes into force), and may send a statement to [email protected] or to: Traffic Order consultations, Highways, Southwark Council, Environment and Leisure, P.O. Box 64529, London SE1P 5LX; or use the form labelled 'Parking - Road traffic and highway schemes - responding to statutory consultation notices' at www.southwark.gov.uk/statutoryconsultationnotices quoting the reference ?TMO2021-EXP16_LSP Dulwich 2?. Please note that if you wish to object to the scheme you must state the grounds on which your objection is made. ? I?m going to respond and copy to my local councillor.
  5. The short notice changes and the new tier 4 have changed the plans of lots of people and I?ve seen various offers and requests for donations of food people don?t need. The need is still there. Are your plans in shreds / tatters leaving you with excess food? Are you going shopping for your Christmas meal and could put an extra pack of cereal or jar of coffee in your trolley? If so there are various ways to get any food you can offer to local families who need it. Donations can be taken into the Albrighton Community Centre at 37 Albrighton Road between 10 and 4. The Albrighton Centre is planning to provide Christmas boxes to people on Wednesday and Christmas Eve so people have food and really need mayonnaise, coffee, tea. Can you help? Other local donation points I?ve seen / heard of are * Salvation Army food donation boxes after the tills in Sainsburys Dog Kennel Hill * Copleston Mutual Aid Group * Kingswood TRA If you know of others please add to the thread. If you can help with a donation do. One apparently small donation might be a positive end to a year nothing like most of us have lived through. Wishing everyone a merry Christmas.
  6. Parking Marshalls directing cars. Short queue on arrival just before 9am. Queue around car park on exit at 10. Queue to get into car park backing to Dog Kennel Hill at 1030 but queue to just beyond roundabout at 11. Inside shop less busy than normal at this time of year although social distancing wasn?t really being observed or possible in popular aisles.
  7. Do you need a visitor?s parking pass? As has been said Fellbrigg Road isn?t in a parking zone. The CPZ for that area has been put on hold due to Covid. You can double check on this map on the council website https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/find-somewhere-to-park/parking-map If you are in a zone check out the council enforcement times over Christmas and New Year. There is no enforcement on Christmas Day. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/parking-enforcement-over-christmas-and-on-bank-holidays
  8. Its busy every Christmas even without current circumstances. Can you shop just one person for your household - please think about it the queue will be shorter for all. Please be polite to staff - they might have to ask you to queue or social distance but they didn't set the rules. I wouldn't want to be them at the moment. Their Christmas plans will have been affected too and they are having to work so you can adjust yours. Bear that in mind. Where you'd normally give a smile say Thank You - the smile is hidden by the mask. It took me a while to realise this.
  9. The official guidance has been published. Its "stay at home", no relaxation for Christmas and a section on travel. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tier-4-stay-at-home You can only leave / enter tier 4 for very limited purposes.
  10. The council have put details of their plans for parking enforcement on the website. I?m sure there will be those who think all restrictions should be scrapped for the period but you see enough inconsiderate parking and driving when restrictions are enforced so this looks like a reasonable compromise to me. No enforcement on 23 & 24 would be better but there will be people driving about who would park inconsiderately causing problems for deliveries and those doing last minute Christmas shopping so this may seem a bit harsh in some areas but if you make a Christmas bubble after restrictions end on Christmas Eve you / your visitors will be able to park in a bay for the period restrictions are lifted. Note charging will continue in parks. Understandable as they will be busy. Enforcement of double yellow lines and traffic enforcement (banned turns etc will also continue). Again needed for safety because of the few inconsiderate drivers. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/parking-enforcement-over-christmas-and-on-bank-holidays

  12. New trees have gone in on Quorn Road
  13. If you can wear a visor on top of a mask. A visor is better than nothing for those of us that can wear both two is better than one for all
  14. We had mice and after they went we put in an earlier version of these. Seem to work. Maybe put one in the room you want to stay mouse free? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cheese-Repeller-Humane-Rodent-Deterrent/dp/B004QIRL8Q/ref=sr_1_12?crid=LC4PEMP510P4&dchild=1&keywords=mouse+deterrent+plug+in&qid=1607425058&sprefix=mouse+deterrent%2Caps%2C244&sr=8-12
  15. What was the time on sign on the bay you parked in? If you were in a bay in the West Peckham zone according to the traffic order and the sign had the times for the West Peckham zone then legally the penalty is correct. The online map might have been misleading but even if it was incorrect it has no legal standing. Also I?ve not seen on here any question over the CPZ boundaries and if there was one I?m pretty sure it would have come up on here and been sorted by the Council and no PCNs issued until it was. It?s some time ago now but when I dealt with PCN appeals if the sign and traffic order were correct the penalty would have stood and a Notice to Owner been issued. Unless you are sure you were not parked in the West Peckham zone pay now. If you were wait for the Notice to Owner and make a formal representation (this will go to the registered keeper at DVLA so if this is not you let them know as if they pay on receipt there is no right to appeal).
  16. Stay at home is the first thing the guidance says so although the answer is yes you could drive for a walk should you just because you can? The guidance says you can travel to an open space ?to spend time or exercise outdoors - this should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)? Could you go for a walk locally? We have more green space than other places in London. Rather than driving out for a walk could you visit / re-visit a local green space each day? I?ve been taking pictures of the same 3 locations in a local park on my weekly visits and hope to see how its changed over time in due course. I?ve also seen squirrel behaviour I hadn?t taken in before. I?m finding there is more on the doorstep than I thought and no need to suffer the traffic, which might be less than it was but the roads aren?t clear. 20 minutes walk and I?m at the park, 20 minutes in the car and at least the same to go again before you can walk. Even without the fact we are in lockdown is driving for a walk always necessary?
  17. Skin_deep, thanks for posting. everyone should be wary but as you say it could be innocent Be alert but also be kind. There will be grandparents who haven?t seen their grandchildren and want to see that carefree attitude only children have. Unfortunately there are also those with less innocent motives.
  18. A sensible suggestion by Nigello. The council will have even more calls on their limited resources than normal anything any of us can do to help that means they can use those resources elsewhere is good. 15 minutes clearing leaves, take your litter home, put a mask in the bin rather than dropping it on the floor - preferably having cut the straps to save wildlife getting caught up in it. I grew up in a cul de sac with a steep hill. In ice and snow some cars would struggle to get up it and the only way out was uphill Everybody cleared the road across from their drive meaning the cars that needed it could get a grip and make it up the hill and out. It didn?t take anyone too long from those houses and everyone who needed to drive out could.
  19. The CPZ is still operating but in the earlier lockdown civil enforcement officers (parking attendants) were redeployed to other roles. That may be happening again or they may be refocused to areas that parking could cause more of an issue with where traffic is at the moment. It?s not all about raising money, and most people follow the rules and don?t get a penalty most of the time. Take note of the restrictions where you are parking and park accordingly and you?ll avoid a fine. If you park somewhere that?s restricted know you are taking a chance. Not all restrictions are sensible but most are there for a reason even if its not obvious to you at the time. I remember sitting at traffic lights and thinking the stop line was a long way back from the junction. When a bus turned into the road I saw why - a car further forward and the bus wouldn?t have got round bringing the whole junction to a standstill as would a car parking on the yellow line.
  20. Looks like this hasn?t started yet. Signs are up in Calton Avenue but covered over. I didn?t see any cameras. When the signs are uncovered it looks like there will be a large red sign and a round no turn sign.
  21. Apologies for the quality of the scan - I scanned it on my phone. This is what came through our door. Having read it again it doesn?t mention being able to leave for an MOT or provide the link for government guidance but it does say ?This includes? so isn?t intended to be complete.
  22. I?ve read that the government will be providing some winter funding to support families and children. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-winter-package-to-provide-further-support-for-children-and-families The funding will be managed by councils. I?ve been volunteering at the Community Fridge at the Albrighton Centre in East Dulwich and the number of people using the Community Fridge has increased. The Community Fridge has been running for a number of years and providing food to those in the community who need it and I believe would be a recipient of funding which can use the funding to provide food where it?s needed locally. The Albrighton Centre is not something I?d come across before but they do great work and the Community Fridge is known and well used by those who will benefit from the Covid Winter Grant. You can find your local councillor on the council website and it would be great if you could contact them to suggest funding is given to the Albrighton Centre. http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgFindMember.aspx?
  23. https://www.stchristophers.org.uk/shops/contact-details Expected to reopen in December should restrictions allow
  24. Penguin68 sensible response to common misunderstandings. The OP is right though some people are not following the basics and if we get complacent before there?s a vaccine then at the moment the only tool available is lockdown / tougher restrictions. It?s been clear for a while that although the over 70?s have more serious illness should they catch it they are not the only ones affected and cases are climbing in all age ranges, if at different rates. Long Covid is still an unknown but should be a concern for those younger who catch it but it?s such an unknown that until you know someone who?s experienced it or seen someone wiped out by glandular fever which is the nearest I know of it will be so outside people?s experience it won?t be expected. Yes it was starting to look like Tier 3 measures where working but there wasn?t time to see if that was the case and for the NHS to be able to cope if cases carried on rising. Waiting just a few weeks could have taken us past capacity the virus was increasing so fast. When masks first came in the government left wearing them to common sense. Some did / some didn?t as you?d expect. We all judge risk differently. Laws were brought in just as they were for wearing seatbelts and drink driving. Laws still get broken but enough follow them to avoid the worst consequences for many. Hopefully lockdown will bring the rise in cases down and nowhere will need to go into Tier 3 when tiered restrictions return. Having seen what can happen people will do the minimum so some families can meet for Christmas - not expecting to be able to visit my parents in Greater Manchester but maybe they can see my sister also in Greater Manchester - and businesses can reopen. The virus isn?t going away any time soon but if we work together we can keep it down and have a new normal until there are some options available other than do nothing with an overwhelmed NHS, deaths and the economic impact or be in an extended lockdown. Not something anyone would choose but it?s pretty clear all over the world that there are limited actions that can be taken to have an impact on the virus. I wish I was wrong but for all ?the government had got it wrong? here / France / Italy ..... There is no magic bullet. In answer to the OP?s post I think we have a chance but it?s not going to be comfortable. Stay safe.
  25. JohnL as you say the legislation allows you to leave home to go to any business that is open or to pick up anything pre-ordered. The guidance from the Council covers the minimum. Too long or complicated and people won?t read it so it could never cover everything. As some won?t even do the minimum which could mean extra restrictions for more for longer keeping it simple seems like a good approach. The Council website has a link to the government guidance with more detail and I think that was on what came through the door. The government guidance covers more but runs to pages. How many have found and read it but read the two pages that came through the door? https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november#businesses-and-venues Hope your MOT is booked in I called yesterday and they advised me to book for an MOT due in January. First available date 21 December.
