Visited the Nature Trail at the Horniman a couple of days back for the first time (I know its been there a while but new to me). Short and nothing amazing this visit but good for a quick half hour in ?woodland?. Entrance to the start is from London Road - up the steps just after Wood Vale and then through the gate on the left. Check the opening hours on the Horniman website (currently 9-4). You go to the end and return. It?s a ?woodland? path so tree roots, steps and could be muddy in wet weather and no dogs. You never escape the sirens but if you are passing its worth checking out.

Sainsburys - removed more trolley tills
AylwardS replied to tiddles's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The handheld scanners had been installed when I went yesterday. Here is the link to the Sainsburys website page on SmartShop https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/get-ideas/our-freebies-and-competitions/our-freebies-and-competitions/smartshop-app There is also a FAQ page (and FAQs in the app) https://help.sainsburys.co.uk/help/products/smartshop-faq A few comments / questions on this thread are covered: - The app works on iPhone and Android - You will need your Nectar card to pay Downloading the iPhone app was easy - have your nectar card to hand. There are more FAQs in the app than on the website. - You pay at a card only SmartShop checkout, SmartShop enabled self checkout (cash or card was an option last time I used one?) or via Apple Pay - if supported in store, no need to use a checkout This sounds good, but will take some getting used to as self scan did. There are bound to be some teething troubles both technical and user in the first few weeks but if it can improve the queues like yesterday afternoon it will be good. There are more checkouts now than there were when Sainsbury?s opened. Even with every checkout open, and they have been when I?ve been in at busy times, there are queues. If those who want to use SmartShop free up the traditional tills for those who want that option that?s a good thing in my opinion. Time will tell. -
There are a few places the posted speed limit seems odd but that applies to all laws / regulations - you can never have ?one rule fits all? I frequently get hooted for driving at 20 mph, and overtaken, but how often can you drive over 20 with London traffic? We learn more and things change. I remember my dad saying that when he was younger he would go out with his friends and the designated driver would drink. This was before drink driving laws and knowing the impact on your reaction times he wouldn?t do it now but then they didn?t know. In 20 years time will it be as unacceptable to speed in a 20 limit zone or use your mobile phone while driving so most people won?t even think about it? I?ve been overtaken while sticking to the posted 20 limit only to join the queue of traffic further down the road behind the car that overtook me. What?s the point?

Hopefully the below will throw some clarity on the community council / forum. The Community Forum is on the Council website and the parking zones for West Peckham and East Dulwich Healthier streets are on the agenda for the Dulwich Community Council (rather than the Peckham one) Guess they could only have officers attend one if needed and the agenda item is for West Peckham and Dulwich Healthier Streets. The website has the community council / forum details in a couple of places as peterwlindsay said, so the OP may have missed these. There are also community councils for Peckham and Dulwich and the Council has put this under the Dulwich one - the area does cover both I believe. http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=176&MId=6065&Ver=4 Note that anything to be considered at Council meetings, I don?t know about Southwark and things may well have changed as its a few years since I had to input to any Council Meetings, usually needs to be provided in advance so the attendees have time to read and digest it so its unlikely anything sent as feedback now will be discussed at the meeting on 27 April unless someone attends and brings it up. Questions asked at the Community Council may be answered at the meeting or in writing afterwards. The Community Council can submit one question to the Council Assembly in July 2019. Probably needs someone to push it as it only looks like they can ask one question and there are probably a number of issues residents want raised. ?Any question to be submitted from a community council to council assembly should first be the subject of discussion at a community council meeting. The subject matter and question should be clearly noted by the community council and thereafter the agreed question can be referred to the constitutional team. ? The community council is invited to consider if it wishes to submit a question to the ordinary meeting of council assembly in July 2019? The members of the Dulwich committee can be found on this page http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgCommitteeMailingList.aspx?ID=176 The Chair of the Committee is Councillor Andy Simmons Email [email protected]. I recognise a few of the names of other councillors who I guess are local councillors so probably worth copying any email to you r local councillor(s) too. The suggestion to contact Councillor Livingstone is probably because he will make the ultimate decision as parking comes under him and he?ll be looking at the bigger picture borough wide. The councillors on the community council should be looking at the impact locally.

CPZ...the results are in.....brace yourselves....
AylwardS replied to Rockets's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
1921 As has been said a no return rule will stop people paying to park from parking and then setting a reminder as it stops a vehicle parking all day. The same no return rule can be applied to either shared use or paid for bays. The order for zone Q (Dog Kennel Hill) has the following and I?d expect a similar provision in the East Dulwich CPZ order if it?s part day. ?to provide 'shared-use' parking places, in which either:- (i) vehicles which have paid the parking charge of ?2.75 per hour (using 'Pay by Phone') may be left for up to two hours (provided no vehicle may return to a parking place on that same day), or (ii) vehicles issued with a valid residents' permit, valid business permit or valid visitors' permit may be left without time limit, between the hours of 11 am and 1 pm on Mondays to Fridays inclusive, in:? As you can see no vehicle that has paid can not stay more than the two hour limit, I believe someone could park in the morning, call and pay but when the paid for time was up they can?t park any longer in the same place so could not park all day. We don?t live in one of the roads with bays but there certainly was nothing said on here after the zone was introduced to indicate problems with people parking all day. Residents or their visitors with a permit can stay as long as they need. I think that should stop what you ask about. -
Council parks to charge ?2ph parking fee from 1 April
AylwardS replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I knew I?d seen something about consulting with regular park users. I found this in the decision back in February which gave the go ahead. The consultation will include the following: ? -? Engagement with specific user groups to gain an understanding of impact of proposed measures on those with disability and on regular users i.e. dog walkers to ensure these users have an opportunity to engage and provide their views.? The decision by Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Equalities and Communities 15/03/2019 http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgIssueHistoryHome.aspx?IId=50018970&Opt=0 should someone want to refer back to it. -
Council parks to charge ?2ph parking fee from 1 April
AylwardS replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As previously said the official Traffic Management Consultation is out. It runs for a shorter period than the consultation the Council is / has been running since the beginning of April and when I went in today it looks different to what I recall seeing last time I looked - the questions look the same The consultation - Parking Control Measures for carparks in parks can e found at https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/parking-control-measures-for-carparks-in-parks/ The Council consultation runs 1 April to 13 May, the formal TMO consultation runs 11 April to 6 May. The TMO - Parks Parking (notice dated 11 April 2019) can be found in traffic-management-orders and the charge will be ?2 per hour at all times with free parking for disabled badge holders and solo motorcycles (in the specific bay). I don?t choose to drive to the park so will not be directly affected but understand there may be circumstances that mean driving is required. Its not going to be possible to introduce charging and keep free parking for general access - well I can?t think of a solution that won?t cost lots. It have made a suggestion for how it should be possible for activities the parks (i.e. Parkrun or activities at the Francis Peek Centre) The Council also has pages on Health and Wellbeing so I played a few of their points back to them. If the charges will affect you do respond to the consultation and if you have suggestions or examples of particular groups who will be negatively affected include that in your response. The Council may be able to do something but hadn?t realised the introduction of charges would cause the issue. I know there will be those that say its just moneymaking, and that is probably a big part of it, but I don?t drive to the park soI don?t know the likely implications of the introduction of charging and the people putting together the proposals will only have their own experience to go on. Can any of us say we understand what every park user needs? -

Please advise if I have misunderstood. Fitzgeraldo my understanding is its aimed at reducing emissions so a parked car would not need to pay the charge only if it was driven. The TfL website for ULEZ only refers to driving I found an article from a driving magazine from a few years ago that said TfL had said cars parked on the street in the ULEZ would not pay only if they were driven. Details on how the extension will work have not been provided but levying the charge on vehicles that do not have the engine running would be a stretch of the emissions reasoning.

Meadow are holding a second exhibition on 10 & 11 April from 4.30 - 7.30. Doesn?t look to be much more detail, maybe slightly less housing. We need the planning application for any detail and all it says is it will go in after the exhibition. Www.championhillproposals.com

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?
AylwardS replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Councillor McAsh has posted this in response to questions on the Councillors thread. Hi all The garden waste charge collection will be introduced from 3 June, not April. There will be communication to everyone in properties with kerbside collection this week, and an FAQ section will be put on the council website this month to better explain the new system. In the meantime, let me cover a few key points: - Food waste collection will remain free. The council is buying new food waste containted to ensure that people still have this service. - The service will be charged per financial year. This means that the 2019/20 charge will be reduced pro rata to ?25 for the first year. - You can still take garden waste to the Devon Street recycling centre for free. - Adhesive stickers will be sent to those who have paid in June. After a grace period, the council will remove brown bins without stickers. Siduhe - do you mean the bags you can buy for ?10 for 20? They will go up to ?15 but I think that's the only change. Best wishes James -

James Can you give any detail on when the charges for garden waste collection will be introduced and what will happen about food waste collection? Will the Council take away the brown wheelie bins for those not paying the charge? I?ve found the report and can see what the charges will be but have not been able to read the report but Appendix G indicates charges will apply from April. The full committee report of which James attached the appendix D can be found at http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=302&MId=6087&Ver=4 I?ve not read the detail but it appears charges agreed are in Appendix G http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=302&MId=6087&Ver=4 and it appears they apply from April. Anyone seen a request to pay? -
The Council are currently consulting on the New Southwark Plan which will cover the period to 2033. This is the Local Plan which will inform planning consultations and a variety of matters affecting how our area looks. I?ve only had a chance for a quick look - the plan is over 300 pages long before you get to the supporting policies - but this will influence planning requirements, how shop frontages look, how Borough Open Land / MOL / Green space / Biodiversity is treated even protecting views from various areas into other areas of London (which I hadn?t even thought was something the Council did), basically there will be something to affect everyone. I?m sure most of us don?t have time to digest the full document and all the implications but if there is something that?s important to you and you get a chance to have a look and respond this is a chance to have your say. Formal consultation is taking place until 17 May 2019. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/planning-policy-and-transport-policy/development-plan/local-plan?chapter=4

Apologies if there is another thread about the works but I couldn?t find it. If you will be driving down Denmark Hill over the next 5 weeks you might want to leave more time / think about whether you really need to drive as TfL have posted that the bus stop outside the hospital will be closed for 5 weeks from 13/03 while the phase of works at the junction of Coldharbour Lane take place. Maybe it won?t be any different to the last few weeks but if TfL feel the need to do more than just close the bus stop with signs it makes me think it?s going to have more of an impact than the work to date.

Pollution levels are not just down to traffic but there are plenty of posts on here about traffic impacts. From what I?ve seen and heard traffic in South London generally has been worse for the last 4-6 weeks and its not always clear why. Last week I walked down a road at a time I?ve been walking down it regularly for the last couple of years and the traffic was worse than I?ve ever seen it. Someone else at the class I was going to had walked down the same road 5 minutes earlier and a bus and car had a minor accident, didn?t pull out of the traffic to swap details and access both ways to the High Street was affected. Given all the roadworks locally - those at Denmark Hill / Camberwell will go on until July - I?m not sure the trial will ever see ?normal? traffic levels. The closure may not be helping but it may not be the closure alone affecting traffic. If air quality / pollution is a concern for you this page from TfL might be of interest https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/about-tfl/air-quality-advice?intcmp=41599.

I?m not sure what more signage could be erected.. There are two signs on Dog Kennel Hill advising there is no access to Denmark Hill. If you?ve been driving that way for years you probably don?t look at the signs. Here is the link to the webpage that I think was referred to in an earlier post, you will find the latest information from the Council including a questionnaire. What appears to be missing from the monitoring would appear to be the impact on pollution levels. The next stages given on the Council website [consultations.southwark.gov.uk] are: * February - Autumn 2019 (6-9 months): Monitoring period, including settling in period and monitoring surveys, and online feedback questionnaire/liaison with key stakeholders * Late Autumn 2019: Results of monitoring analysed and presented and consultation on permanent feature * Winter 2019/20: Decision making-?consultation report and recommendations * Spring 2020: Make permanent/remove/modifications/mitigation (subject to statutory consultation) What do we want to monitor? During the trial we intend to monitor impact of the trial on the following: * Road safety/traffic dominance on Champion Hill * Road safety/traffic dominance around Dog Kennel Hill Primary School * Road safety at the raised table in Champion?Hill * Access needs for local residents * Traffic displacement onto adjacent residential roads * Traffic on Dog Kennel Hill, Grove Lane, Champion Park and Denmark Hill? I?ve only scanned it but there is a report on next steps which includes info on monitoring and what is expected from the trial. Tie back your feedback to this and show you?ve considered their objectives and the local impact. [consultations.southwark.gov.uk] Maybe a bit early to respond on traffic impact - I saw new dates for the works at Denmark Hill / Camberwell Green on the way to Denmark Hill today so the increase in traffic might not just be down to the change on Champion Hill, or could be dismissed on those grounds. Maybe use the Councils monitoring form now and when the works finish / weather improves and on the same day / time later in the trial and use that evidence in your response. Maybe there is merit in a part time closure and monitoring can support that? There are areas that are pedestrianised some of the time and open to traffic others. Would something like that work? It would be wonderful to be able to walk to work / school / the shops but that?s not where we are at and something needs to be done to tackle the situation. This may not be the answer but something has to change I think most would agree

If you pass by and have not been to Greendale Fields recently have a look. The Counci have put in paths and benches but there are still wilder areas for birds and wildlife. I?ve walked through to Sainsbury?s a few times and heard a woodpecker (greater S potted I think though I?ve not seen it yet) and heard a greenfinch. Hoping the whitethrots will be back soon

ThorNorgson & BBCamberwell thank you for that information. I?d seen signs about the Heathrow consultation but didn?t know where to start when I looked at the site, these will help

CPZ: Proposed Controlled Parking in East Dulwich
AylwardS replied to dulwichresident01's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry for the long post but hopefully constructive MarkT you are right, I?ve looked at the presentation again and I had taken the numbers the wrong way round. It still seems to me, I?ve not gone back through all the posts but it doesn?t seem that a third don?t mention parking, that posts from those opposed to the zone due to the impact on their ability to park seem higher than 58%. I agree with your point that in parts of the zone the number of residents cars to frontage is an issue. I?ve included a comment in my response that the issues in the zone differ and I can?t see how one zone will address all issues. If multiple cars in your building is an issue there is an ?other? question where you can explain. If have more than one car and can explain why surely that would be useful for the Council to know. If they want to encourage healthier streets understanding why people use their cars will inform improvements to provide viable alternatives. I know having only lived in a single car household my knowledge of why there are households with more is secondhand and the people designing the scheme will have their experience, no way they could have the experience of everyone affected by the zone so how will they understand if it?s not explained? Re residents adjacent to the zone I?d hope they could fill in the questionnaire as a visitor with their specific concerns and although I?ve raised the concern with Councillors as it affects me. The first sentence of my reason is that this affects ?East Dulwich residents who live outside the zone who support traders in the zone Other East Dulwich residents living outside the area of the zone support businesses in the zone. Without their custom the livelihood of the traders and vibrancy of East Dulwich may well suffer in the ways concerns have been expressed.? If your Councillors and the Champion Hill Councillors support this all visitor views should be taken into account - adjacent residents, commuters who work locally who all have an interest in Lordship Lane which is within the proposed zone. Whatever the decision there will be some who agree and some who don?t but I?d rather live in a democracy where you can make your views known than a dictatorship. There?s still time to fill in the consultation online and say yes/no/undecided and raise any concerns specific to you https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/eastdulwichparking/ Despite what?s been said on here the Council do listen, even if every proposed change is not agreed. The amount of yellow lines in Grove Park in the Dog Kennel Hill zone was reduced resulting in more parking bays (the Council report says it was due to responses to the consultation). The phrase ?Don?t ask, don?t get? comes to mind. A CPZ will restrict parking to marked bays. Do the yellow lines need to be as long as somewhere without bays to stop inconsiderate parking causing access issues at dropped kerbs? I don?t think so and said so in my response. There are a number of concerns in the posts here. Can you give more background of how a concern will affect you / your road? I was going to email a response but at the dropin I was told the report to the Cabinet Member would be compiled based on the consultation responses and to complete that even if I didn?t complete every question. There are some common concerns that come up on this thread, if common concerns are expressed in the consultation responses there is a chance changes will be made. There is a pdf of the questions, look at them. Do you have reasons for your answer to any? If so explain - which argument would win you over 1 I don?t want to go for a walk 2 I don?t want to go for a walk, it?s too cold. How about we go to the cinema? -
