  1. Hi david_carnell, I read that as well. But I don't think Ofsted are that stupid. Also if you analyse the articlae numbers we're talking aobut 4 people starting and not finishing. Schools in urvan areas have huge flux and the academies are largely taking over failing schools in urban areas. Hi EDSE22, Sorry you feel that. They've agreed targets of being in the top 10% for attainment and progression and Ofsted outstanding schools. This would be better than any other local school accepted Dulwich Hamlet from memory.
  2. Lateast news is the permanent site for the East Dulwich Harris free primary school will be the former East Dulwich Police which has been sold to the Education Finance Agency. The land area is about the same size as Heber School and Goose Green School. This is brilliant news. With a permanent site for September 2015 it makes the opening of this school on a temporary site this Setepmber 2014 no longer a gamble for parents. As the school admissions for the first year runs in parallel to the main Southwakr admissions process parents have nothing to lose applying for both and then chosing which of the two places they wish to take up.
  3. Hi KK, I'm afraid I don't know about the Lister centre. Bit away from East Dulwich. Hi nigello, Thanks, am on the case. Housing officer has come back to me already saying they're on the case. Hi Malleymoo, That is odd. You'd have thought the Police had their evidence. On the case and have reported it.
  4. Eaery year local ward councillors get to decide how to spend some devolved Cleaner, Greener, Safer budget. The scheme started when Lib Dems first led the council in 2002 with only one year when it didn?t operate when the Labour administration wanted to use the money on pet Olympic projects. I?m particularly excited by the prospect of improving the junction of North Cross Road with Lordship Lane. It?s one of our crash hot spots, doesn?t work well when closed for the street market on Saturdays. The Bike hangars will be a great experiment to see if they can work locally in East Dulwich ? fingers crossed. And lastly trialling the Dulwich Hospital phlebotomy service on Saturdays. IT should really make it much easier for people to have blood tests outside of normal work hours and provide a real alternative to being at the hospital before 7am weekdays. This year East Dulwich councillors have decided to allocate the following: CGS capital: - ED Crime Prevention fund ?10,000 - ED street trees ?10,000 - Lordship Lane secure derelict property ?4,500 - Chesterfield ?6,000 for upgrading street lighting to white light, ?4,000 for pavement tree pit upgrading. - Bike hangars ? fund 2 to be decided where most popular by residents ?10,000 - East Dulwich Community Centre (EDCC) children garden area materials ?524 - Bassano Street gating ?2,000 - Dawson Heights tree planting ?1,000 - Upgrade junction of NCR/LL ?50,000 - ED public Automated Emergency Defibrillators ?5,000 - Historic photos project ?4,500 Total ?112,524 CGS revenue: - Give and take EDCC events ?1,500 - Goose Green nursery improvements ?1,400 - EDCC gardening ?700 - WW2 plaques across Dulwich ?667 - Street cleaning machine extra half-time employee ?11,605 - Saturday Dulwich Hospital blood testing trial x 26 weeks (as per separate email) ?20,000 Total ?35,872
  5. Hi AA. I've chase up council highways officers to ask their view of what can be done. Apologies its taking so long to get expertise applied to your problem.
  6. BBC have contact me about possible documentary about Iceberg developments and social context. Any Crawthew residents interested in being on the telly please email me ASAP and I'll put them in touch with the producer.
  7. We had knocking late at night when in bed. I ignored it. Next thing we hear was the front door being kicked down. I charged them and not sure who was more scared them or me. I chased them naked to the fornt gate. REalised thier was two of them running away and I was naked and about to leave my family with no working front door. Police were brilliant. So I will now always answer under such circumstance. But front behind a chain. HAd manchester and London bars added so hopefully no one will every successfully kick the door in again. But I still get andgry and anxious about it.
  8. Detailed discussions are still ongoing.
  9. Hi ed_pete, titch juicy, Southwark Council engineers have been on site this afternoon and have fixed a number of faults. However, two lamp columns have not been fixed. They're returning to site tomorrow to try and fix these remaining two.
  10. I hadnt spotted that - I will find out ASAP.
  11. Hi titch juicy, Is that the Surrey Canal cycle/footpath?
  12. Phew! I'm about to organise the first meeting of interested parents who might consider helping with tihs project - perhaps on a steering committee. Any interested parents or supporters please email me ASAP.
  13. To ensure proper scrutiny on planning application 13/AP/3205 that appears to be driving this problem East Dulwch ward councillors Rosie Shimell and myself have requested the planning decision be decided by a committee of councillors IF council planning officers are minded to grant planning permission. Will keep people posted how this goes.
  14. For clarity we have sufficient highly performing Harris Schools in the area. The idea of free schools is to bring choice but our application will also be about bringing more capacity. Hopefully this is clear enough.
  15. But ITATM we're not talking about another Harris School so not sure why the post here - despite being interesting. hi mamafeelgood, Very nearly half way for the level of support needed. So far very limited campaign. Hope to scale it up in the next few weeks, ask parents to form a steering committee and then select a provider to work with.
  16. General notice Hindmans Road between numbers 134-156 & 127-135 will have Thames Water disruption for flood alleviation works starting Monday 27 January to 7 March. Please see attached.
  17. Hi P68, I would be amazed if the what the school is doing is only one of masny actions they're taking to try and fix this problem. I find it near impossible now to naigate the GP system and get appointments even when a GP is telling me to book another appointment. So I really sympathise with parents trying to comply. It's a real shame the school has felt compelled to do this. I would suggest a culture needs to change amongst a minority of parents. I would counsel we all wait and see how it pans out and feels for parents and whether it goes some way to solving the problem.
  18. Ivy House and Community Asset is a red herring wrt to this Prettys Greengrocer situation. Community asset application needs to show it would "further social wellbeing or social interests of the local community (e.g. cultural , recreational or sporting)" direct quotes from council officials. It sounds like the new owner is trying to give the impression hey can force the current people out but that they legally probably can't. I had this attempted on me years ago when I live on Brixton hill is a flat. If the new owner is successful they believe they'll add significant value to their new property. Most people will happilly use whatever new shop is installed there so the new owner is probably right. The key for all of us is to encourage Prettys to get proper advice and then tell us how we can help support them. I will also contact them directly and happilly obtain a letter making it clear that this unit is a shop unit and very unlikely to be granted any change of use to a cafe etc.
  19. Hi buggie, I share your concerns. Parents are also tempted to return them to school because they can't take so much un planned holiday from workplaces. Equally schools have to contend with parents taking children out of school for family holidays during term times. It's really hard for teachers to making lesson plans under such circumstances. It's also disruptive and holds the majority back if work has to be repeated due to fellow pupil absences. The schools pupil absence rate was (as of 11/12/13) 6.1% vs. UK average of 4.8%. But the proportion with 38 half days or more of abesences over 2 terms was 6.6% for the school vs. UK av. of 3.6%. So the school clearly has a problem it is rightly trying to fix. http://www.education.gov.uk/cgi-bin/schools/performance/school.pl?urn=100790&superview=pri Looking at other local schools such as Heber, Goose Green, Dog Kennel Hill, Dulwich Hamlet they don't perform better than the UK averages. So I applaud the school trying to fix this problem but hope they apply their new rules thoughtfully. Let hope it helps more children who should be in school attend school. So it appears that the problem they're trying to fix is restricted to a tiny minority - but I'm not an expert around this subject.
  20. I don't think this was our Crystal Palace Road. Every year East Dulwich councillors allocate money for a crime prevention fund. 2012 local Police asked and we provided a thermal imaging camera. Two reasons. One when children are lost it is much quicker for the police to use this themal camera to try and find them. Two, to proactively find cannabis factories which generally are associated with organised crime. Only a fool would set a factory up in the Dulwich area now...
  21. Hi Elliana, This junction is the boundary between four wards including East Dulwich ward. We've tried several times since 2006 to get these lights timed for normal humans rather than Olympians. The last time they were reviewed was 18months ago and 1second was apparently added. Still needs Olympic 100m sprint to cross in green man time. I'm a fast 6'4" and can't cross in the green man time allowed. The traffic engineers response is that people have some time after the green man light stops for pedestrians before vehicles are given a green light to proceed. You may have experienced the timed crossings where you get a count down for this post green man phase. Allowing for the green man time and the post green man time does allow sufficient time for people to cross - it just feel really stressful not having a green man illuminated. Has my explanation made sense?
  22. Hi BNG, I agree. Another less than perfect job (second attempt at this sentence!).
  23. Hi Ossa, Can you please email me a copy of the letter and I will check with Southwark.
  24. Hi Ossa, I think this request is about reducing discretionary absences rather than sick children. Clearly the school feels they need to work on such absences having this rule will be designed to encourage parents to ensure their children are at school.
  25. I've received this update about London Birdge station: " First redeveloped platforms at London Bridge station come into use this March The first two new platforms open at London Bridge (14 and 15) with new longer and wider canopies to protect passengers from the rain. As the two new platforms open, other platforms (12 and 13) close for redevelopment. We?ll continue to do this throughout the development until all 15 new platforms are rebuilt. This will lead to a change in walking routes around the station concourse used by Southern passengers. The new platforms will initially be narrowed to allow construction work in surrounding areas. Crowd management systems will initially be required to ensure the safe operation of these new narrower platforms. To make this change there will be a short service change with some Southern services from Friday 28 to Sunday 31st March. During this period there will be a reduced Southern service in operation. "
