Hi LKR, About two years ago and 12 years ago proposals were made for controlled permit parking in the areas. The earlier one asked residents on every SE22 street and the more recent one the area around Grove Vale. The SE22 study was emphatic that overall SE22 did not want controlled parking. The more recent study was clearly against once all respondents were included. a very few streets were in favour but insufficient for it to proceed. What didnt help was that the permit costs rose at the time from ?99.30 to ?125 per permit. Some who were against were against becase it wouldnt operate 24 hours a day. Many that it would displace commuter parking. OThers that their wasnt a problem - generally those that didnt live on a street being consulted. Interesting test case of Barnet residents fighting a permit fee increase from ?40 to ?100pa. They won earlier this week in the High court with the judge being clear that permit fees should only be at a rate to cover costs. Barnet council has been given leave to appeal. We know that until recently parking permits of Southwark council estates cost ?25 so reasonable for Southwark to believe that this is the actual cost of providing them. I don't think it would radically change local peoples views but it would help avoid such proposals being seen as money making schemes which they clearly are to some degree as things stand. The only way this subject would come up again is if a very large resident petition were organised showing clear majorities of homes on a large number of adjoining streets wanting it. -

Political dogma against the concept of Academies - an idea initiated by Lord Adonis a Labour Peer serving in the Blair New Labour government. But in Southwark the bedrock of the Labour party are anti them. When I asked them about supporting the new free schools in East Dulwich they blanked me several times. Clearly didnt want to say they were against but clearly not wanting to be seen to be supporting. But all politicians and their supporters need to focus on what's best for local children. Originally I was against Academies and Free Schools. But locally they have a much better track record than Southwark Council of creating outstanding schools and they do it much quicker. -
Ive now had another indie cinema group contact me to ask how they could bid for this! Someone read this thread and passed my details to them. Whoever you are thank you.

Hi mynamehere, The Lrodship Lane, South Circular junction has had several traffic engineer designs. But to add pedestrian phasing will reduce its capacity for motor vehicles so Boris's policies hasnt allowed it to be implimented. Catch 22 in that not enough pedestrians have been injured or killed to force the issue but its so bad most avoid trying to cross there.

Hi tatum, I'm sorry to hear your school has been messed around by Southwark Council who appear in disarry about what ot do and how to do it. Under the Blair government local authorities werent allowed to build or open new local authority schools. The current coalition government has removed this restriction. So I suspect the council felt they had to go through Dulwich Hamlet Junir School. As they no longer need to have dumped you. Even with the rule change I would have hoped they;'d stick to a plan where an utstanding school with some qudos with parents led to ensure any new school was outstanding. Much less certain that Southwark Council will produce a quick outstanding school or that without the halo of an outstnading school its admissions will be as popular. It's probably political posturing against academy schools which are largely independent from local authorities. Hi Msntlebees, They mean the old Bellenden school being brought back into use and the 'new' Bellenden school bursting at the seems. When thE Lib Dems were running the council one of the proposals we expected to proceed with if reelected in 2010 was to temporarily move the new Bellenden school into the old Bellenden school. Rebuild the new Bellenden school to two form entry, migrate the new Bellenden school back to the then newer Bellenden school. Potentially then create a new school on the old Bellenden School site. Overall increase in three forms of primary school entry. -
I've only just picked this up after spending the night in hospital. I'll try and find out when it will be repaired what TW are doing to tell affected people. I've asked that the next Dulwich Community Council, which sadly isnt until September, thaT thames Water be invited to explain what is going on generally and why they've failed to responded properly to this and other issues.

Yes, a planning application for a nursery and community facility was granted earlier this year. the Picture House owner has made a genuine offer has been made. East Dulwich needs both facilites but the latter is harder to find a suitable location for so I'm especially hopeful it will happen.

As Mrs.Lotte and tomskip said the odd temporary bulge class taking a school from 3 to 4 form entry is unlikely to have a negative impact on children in the school. But it isnt ideal. Quality is much more likely to be an issue if a permanent expansion to 4 form entry or a repeated bulge while another bulge is still going through the school. The advice I;'ve had from several different sources is that the optimum size to ensure the best possible pupil experience is 2 or 3 form entry.

Why expan Ivydale when it sounds like you've identified land for a new school? -
Ivydale School to Expand
James Barber replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi FionaC, I must admit I missed that subtlety. Sounds as though we screwed up by keeping Bredinghurst tucked away in a remote corner of Southwark when it serves all of Southwark and many of children are minicabbed in. All the advice I've had, from several different sources, is to keep primary schools limited to 60-90 pupils per year group. Expanding Ivydale doesn't sound ideal UNLESS the new school is a complete standalone new school federated to Ivydale. That's how other councils have for around the long term restriction started under Blair blocking councils from building new council schools. Equally a couple of weeks ago David Laws while visiting ED was clear councils could now build new schools. Result. Now back to my holiday. -

At last using the Bredinghurst site for primary school places. We as Lib Dm councillors were discussing this with council officers in 2009/10 and it was the core of our plans for that corner of Southwark back then. I'd hope that a whole new school is created there. It always made more sense to move Bredinghurst Pupil Referral Unit to a much more central location - it serves all of Southwark and the pupils are ferried in via effectively minicabs. So what are the plans for Bredinghurst School now? So having only just announced Bredinghurst rebuild has completed - amuliti million pound sched it seems a shame the move didn't happen before the expensive rebuild which will largely be rebuilt over already under Renatas annonucement. Not good planning or use of public money. -

Hi UncleBen, Peckham Rye Common and Park are indeed in Peckham Rye ward and they have their own CGS funding. But many East Dulwich ward residents use both open spaces so we've used our CGS capital funds to help improve things. Equally Dulwich Park is in Village and we've helped fund things there as well. -

Hi greenwater, My understanding is that Southwark Council has been given ?12.5m this year, and similar last year, to spend as it see's fit to provide more school places - basic needs. Expanding schools or creating new schools. Creating new schools is ally expensive as you have to create the whole school with all those ancillary buildings. Expanding a school is usually 'just' a matter of adding classrooms. But the government also has the free school programme where it will pay all the costs of new schools. So using any of that ?12.5m isn't necessarily the best way to use it. We know that the partial rebuild of St.Anthony's primary school cost ?5m for a two form entry school. Equally we know the ideal size of primary schools is two or three form entries (60-90)pupils per year which limits those that should be expanded. You can join the debate by contacting your local councillors. Looking at Suthwark a councils Cabinet Agendas and commenting. Forming deputation to community councils and the cabinet to give your view. Raising petitions. -

Hi greenwater, Southwark council are considering getting an outstanding school/s to add an extra site - effectively creating new school there. Clever way around the rules of local authorities not being allowed to create new schools. My lib dem colleagues and I suggested this as a possible many months ago so good to see progress. Snag is the gov that's provided ?12.5m this year. A new school would gobble much of this. Whereas free schools we'd bring more extra money not Southwark. Hi LondonMix, Nothing public yet. But expanding it to four form entry would be risky and in my opinion not n the best. Teresa's of children. http://www.dulwichhamletjuniorschool.org.uk/noticeboard/documents/dec12.pdf 120 children in each year creates super large schools. When lib Dems led Southwark Council the school improvement managers were explicit in their advice that deal primary school size to get great experiences for the children were 60-90 pupils per year. Separately I've had that advice from Sir Robin Bosher the ex.Failawn EAD and now director of primary schools at Harris Federation. -

Hi Bessie1974, Apologies I missed this. They appear to cost around ?2,250 including delivery but not including a levelled base. So I'd guess around ?3,000 including everything. Best mechanism for this to apply for Cleaner, Greener, Safer funding. Te next round should come out in January for a decision around Aril/May time and such simple schemes could be implemented before summer 2014. I'll make a point of asking for bids on this thread then and I'd be more than happy to support such a bid and walk you through how to fill in the forms. For both areas you would dearly contact the respective friends groups asking their opinions and seek their agreement on where you'd like to place them. Hi Sue, Yes I also think the is a great idea. -
This sounds at best odd. Very few people licensed to catch foxes - three covering south east England I believe. They're only allowed to do this humanely and what's described doesn't sound like it was done humanely. If correct then animal cruelty is taking place and the RSPCA should be contacted ASAP.

Definitely no planning permission for housing. They do having planning permission for new science block and new swimming pool.

Hi ZT, Yes they do have the ability to place on highway. Always a little risky n case someone topples one over. Not nice. My understanding is they just need to notify the southwark highway licensing dept. If you email [email protected] they should be able to tell you. They wild ask them to get a licence. -

Hi flower, Can you please email me at [email protected] so I an pass your offer onto the lead councillor Barrie Hargrove. -
Hi malleymoo, I remember at the time how awful I felt about it. Someone who helped at the scene called me up and the description was harrowing second hand. I'm at a loss for why it has taken so very long. I don't understand. I'll try and find out. Afterwards I asked and pushed Southwark officials for pedestrian phasing on such temporary traffic lights and have since seen them a number of times implimented. When I havent seen them once or twice I've chased up for them. The coroner wants DoT to ensure nationally this happens. Assuming they used rule 43 then the DoT has 55 days to respond. Hence the improtance of asking MP's about it so they can add a little pressure.
