  1. The choices for this site are between a large nursery, and we have a terrible shortage of nursery places, or a retail shop but our existing shops on Lordship Lane tell me they re are really struggling. Sadly Southwakr Council refused the nursery due to loss of office space that allows employment but granted permission for a shop which would employ less than a nurery. At appeal we managed to get the nursery granted permission. Hi gsirett, A number of shops on Grove Vale would have liked controlled parking running for 1 hour each day as it would enable their customer to come and go as well as deliveries to more easilly come and go. Equally a number of shops feared it. It didnt proceed and your view prevailed. Well done. If you recall my instance the decision was referred to the Dulwich Community Council helped give you that opportuntiy to win. You may hat emy views on this issue but I helped ensure your views could win.
  2. You've looked at a list of street properties for the Nunhead and Peckham Rye area only. That's only a part of Southwark.
  3. I was really saddened to see this thread. Such misinformation and wild accusations. 95% of Southwark roads are paid for and maintained through Council Tax. Vehcle Excise Duty goes to the treasury and not directly to pay for our local roads to be maintained. So the half of Southwark residents who dont own cars pay for the roads as much as those that do have cars. Robin is a great local councillor - if only more were as hard working and diligent. She drives me nuty sometimes but that's reciprocal. We both share a passion to make our area better. She'll be chairing the Dulwich Community Council tonight - she's been a great chair person. Ironic for her to be criticised for clearing a public path outside your own home. If only more people were so publicly spirited. For the record I salt the public path outside my home after clearing it.
  4. Hi Abney, If you accept you'll still be on the waiting list of all 6 schools you showed a preference for. If you truly wont ever send your child to Langbourne - and for many it is a very remote school with extremely poor public transport - then I'd pop along to Cator Street for a drop in admissions session. Talk through your circumstances. Make contemporaneous notes of the session as so much info. THEN decide whether to reject. If you reject it's likely a place will come up at some point during the reception year. Most oculdn't hold out that long but if you can that's an option if unusual. Home schooling is a lot of work but can be very fulfilling for children and parents.
  5. Just admissions by distance. simonethebeaver Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > James, do those distances include sibling places > and other entry criteria, or just admission by > distance?
  6. The planning application for this has just been granted planning permission - please see attached. I'm amazed. It probably means the planning permission for a new 120 place nursery wont now be used and one of the two major improvements to new nursery provision wont proceed. I hope my pessimism is proved wrong. Hopefully if this shop unit does proceed it wont detract from Lordship Lane retail vitality.
  7. Attached is a partial list of Southwark primary schools - shows max. distances for admissions this year (so far in the process). Goodrich - 457m Heber - 263m Bizarrely Goose Green, Judith Kerr, religious schools not listed. Hope to have them later. Hi Chillaxed, It seems clear the extra supply such as Judith Kerr free school and bulging has helped again. More data to come. The next two weeks people on hand at Cator Street to help people steer through all this. Lots of places do free up. It's not as bad generally at this thread might at first appear. But we do have at least 139 unhappy families across Southwark we all needto help.
  8. Hi UncleBen, It was clear from our cllr meeting with Southwark Police chief John sutherland that the changes he plans - that start 24 June - have had no operational analysis. Apparently organising the Police is "more art than science". He couldn't say what the new organisation would feel like for Dulwich or any other residents of Southwark. No ideas about how many hours a week we'd see officers or how often they'd 'come over the hill' to Police our area. It was clear that as the plans are actually thought through that they'll change. He announced the Seeley Drive College SNT would not be the SNT base for College - effectively moth balling it. He announced they'll have a minibus. Both were new developements. In the Tuesday article he gave himself some wriggle room for a Dulwich "patrol stop off point". That's a start. He has also committed to consider a Dulwich cluster for our next cllr meeting with him on Tuesday 30 April. East Dulwich cllrs are going to start a petiton to keep a Dulwich Police base - http://eepurl.com/sPKmf
  9. Hi Alex, Apparntly the fuse blew. Not sure why but reset it. Hopefully just an aberration. I've asked about the tarmac blob. regards james. 10. hi Kes, Yes, you're placed on wiating lists but it helps to keep tabs on that and potentially ask to be placed on other schools waiting lists. Huge shake out will occur.
  11. New electric charging point will be installed on Underhill Road close to Barry Road. The exact site is described thus: "the north-westward side, from a point 12.6 metres north-west of the north-western kerb-line buildout of Barry road north westwerd for a distnace of 5 metres" The new point can be used for 4 hours at a time no return 2 hours 7am-7pm and any amount of overnight time. Any Q's let me know.
  12. Langbourne has been bulged again. Hence its use for all the families officers couldn't think of any other options. But it is pretty remote and about the most unhelpful school to bulge that could be found. Most families will find it impractical to attend without using a car. Not ideal for play dates etc. So much for the councils sustainable transport policy. But an awful lot of people will get far more practical options from the waiting lists. And with so many private schools more places come up from them closing down options they may have pursued in state schools. Sadly we're still waiting for officers to brief us. We've had a politicised incomplete briefing from the labour cabinet councillor. And we still don't know why the eAdmissions system also reissued all the original secondary places again. Not a good admissions year.
  13. Bizarrely the eAdmissions system has just emailed me a repeat of the secondary school place we were offered. Suspect I'm not the only one.
  14. Hi cle, I agree the service has taken a dive since the South London Line was closed last December. This is a DoT and TfL decision about how to use the funding they have. Starting another petiton, but you leading and encouraging other commuters and users would potentially be more powerful than another politician led petition. I can help with printing if you'd like a leaflet or postcard.
  15. Hi Alex K, I know. Last night I reported them not working at 21.55 on my way home from a meeting. And yes that tarmac plug while the replacement slab is arranged is beyond frustrating.
  16. Hi wee quinnie, Can you please pm me your address so I can give yours as an example. Many thanks, james
  17. Hi Renata, That's really disingenuous of you. Yes council budgets have been cut. But your administration as also chosen a number of 'pork fat belly' political projects. So you've ad to make much tougher cuts to fund those. So it's clear we have different priorities. ED cllrs keeping streets clean yours include free school meals often for children from wealthy families.
  18. Tomorrow letters detailing primary school allocations will be sent out 1st class and will be available online from 5pm. If you're dissapointed with your families allocation please get in touch. Between 17 April and 2 May when people confirm places and waiting lists do shift. Last year in Southwark 78% of families received their first choice primary school. Southwark will as always will also provide support for families unhappy with their allocation. Of the 145 families who didnt get one of their six preferences 72 came from the wider East Dulwich area. Fingers crossed for everyone.
  19. Hi ED1985, UncelBen, Penguin68, Chillaxed, My understanding is that sign does not have planning permission. That the previous sign that didnt have planning permission has been replaced with a bigger sign again without planning permission. Planning Enforcement have a long term case about these signs and are again seeking the freeholder to resolve this situation before resorting to an enforcement notice - they can either apply for permission or remove or have at the allowable scale. Planning rules should be enforced without fear or favour. In this case clear conflict between householders who don't wont their street turned over to industrial estate signs vs. smaller businesses trying to make a living. I would suggest they only need sufficient signage for their destination clients and suppliers to find them. The location is unlikely to create much passing trade. Thanks UncleBen and Chillaxed. I could do with being chillaxed.

  21. It bodes really well for Goose green. The last Ofsted report gave the leadership outstanding. The recruitment for Sharroninto this role reenforces that Ofsted reating in my mind. Well done the whole school community.
  22. TeriG, I'm appalled by what you've described. After what you and your partner have been through offend anyone you want on the forum! This experience is likely to have longer term repercussions of anger later.
  23. Thames Water works are planned on Melbourne Grove - between Blackwater Street and Colwell Road - starting tomorrow 15 April until Monday 27 May. Not sure from the info I've received whether the whole road will be closed or not - but loading, waiting and parking along that part of Melbourne. So the wider area is likely to have extra parking pressure. I'll be trying to gee things along.
  24. I've received this communication about possible Freeview TV reception. Any probs please let me know. " In preparation for the 4G mobile phone network roll out, a company called at800 has been setup to test interference issues that may arise between the 4G mobile signal and digital Freeview television signals. at800 have confirmed that they will be carrying out testing in Southwark from 15 April onwards, however they have yet to confirm which specific areas the tests will be taking place so we are unable to quantify the potential impact. During the testing, residents may experience TV reception issues. at800 will be writing to residents in the areas where the testing will take place and will advise residents to contact them directly. Interference can normally be solved by installing a filter, which at800 provide for free. We expect residents will be contacting the Council about TV reception issues, particularly those who are connected to Council communal TV aerials. We have made arrangements at the CSC and advised resident officers on how to handle these calls. "
