  1. Please do use the link. Some real surprises of the 23 local businesses with 0 or 1 star rating. A year ago it was 56 so big improvement for our area. What I find particularly frustrating is I've ensured we have local funds to provide free food hygiene training for local businesses and zero take-up so far. But most of these mega low ratings were from inspections many months ago so most I would hope are now much better. They can ask for re inspections to prove how much they've improved. I've requested they be reinspected.
  2. Hi Uncleben, I wasn't referring to those premises but rather the likes of ED Deli or shoe shop. Equally if litter is left it had a habit of blowing around. Bigger isue to me is the frequency of street sweeping.
  3. Hi cle, Jubilee line is a test case in how not to build a tube line. Way over budget. Edinburgh is the same for trams. The DLR extension to Woolwich Arsenal is a much better and recent example. ?180m everything twin bores (for bigger DLR trains) with two stations 2.5km extension. Allowing for inflation since then, lower borrowing costs, longer trains it would cost around ?250m to extend to Denmark Hill station it being one of three extra stations - Camberwell Green, Walworth Road/Burgess Park (original proposal was Westmoreland Road) - and 2.5km from E&C.
  4. Hi HopOne, Whatever route is chosen the proposals are terminaring in outer boroughs - Bromley or Beckenham depending on the speficis for each of the three main proposed routes. Those routes pass through SOuthwark in all three, but variety of Lambeth, Lewisham, Croydon and Bromley.
  5. Hi UncleBen, Leaving their frontages open makes the pavements practically wider. In return for this their fornatages have litter picking and a monthly sweep. That doesnt seems a terrible exchange.
  6. Hi DJKQ, Of course not. But guard railings along a high street arn't helpful for a high street. We know that corralling pedestrians like cattle results in cars and lorries going faster and people voting with their feet to shop elsewhere. I couldnt agree with making Lordship Lane a race track or harming local businesses that are already suffering. Hence a London and Southwark wide programmes to remove such railings. I'm not anti car. I use our car often enough for journeys that are easier with using one. Just because I use them doesnt mean I can't think ensuring they go at a reasonable speed is better. It's about a balance. We clearly have different priorities for the area. I want to help local businesses, residents get about. You view speed limits as nannying and to be avoided - you're a pure Libertarian
  7. I've requested a GLA Assembly Member ask questions about this. Amazing some council traffic officers are unaware its even proposed - and said no proposals for the area.
  8. Hi trizza, Why? Lots of research proving lead poisoning causing agreesion and violence. Latest research suggests even relaitvely mild doeses havre that effect and reducing lead in the environment as correlating to reduce agression and violence. Perhaps the phrase shouldnt be "we are what we eat" but we are what we ingest".
  9. The proposed cycle superhighway route 6 will open 2015: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/cycling/15832.aspx
  10. Hi TJ, I'm sorry for being crass - whether you've voted for me in the past or not. I'm overly passionate about this issue but that's a poor excuse for rudeness. Sorry. Hi DJKQ, edhistory, Thanks DJKQ I've seen that before. I've also seen evidence that barriers encourage speeding as drivers know that pedestrians wont be a problem for them. So a London and Southwark wide programme to remove them.
  11. Recent research suggests recent decreases in violent crime is linked to lead free petrol. Lead has been shown to vcause short tempers and mood swings. Correlation of reduncing lead in environment and reducing violent crime in young people. I thought this a fascinating different perspective in recent decreases despite falling Police numbers.
  12. Hi TJ, I apologies for any implied suggestion you speed. I have wrongly assumed that your strident defence of the right for people to speed meant you speed. The likes of people such as yourself stridently fighting 20mph limits often do speed though.
  13. Hi JDAA, I'm really sorry to hear this. God luck recovering your precious family jewellery. Often burglars try and repeat such break-ins with similar neighbouring properties. Police don't tell neighbours. If you can do tell your neighbours and how the burglar broke-in. This might help avoid others suffering your experience.

  15. I sincerely hope this extension proceeds. Three routes were being proposed through Southwark (http://jamesbarber.mycouncillor.org.uk/?p=989): 1. Old Kent Road, 2. Camberwell/Peckham, 3. Camberwell Herne Hill. When Ken Livingsotne was supporting the Cross River Tram with words he also provided money for detailed planning. He never provided the money to do the thing but at least the detailed plans were prepared. We need to see Boris allocate real money for detailed planning and consultations. Then we can believe it's more than just fine words postering with Cllr Peter John on the French Riviera. The ideal scheme for Southwark would be an extension involving two branches. Each branch staying in Southwark for as long possible. This would double the areas benefitting. Perhaps splitting at Camberwell. For East Dulwich this could bring tube station at Peckham Rye Common (the old Lido area) and Herne Hill. When the last Southwark Plan was developed I ensured the Bakerloo line extension was safe guarded to some degree based on the historic route that had parliamentary approval. It took some arm twisting. So its crucial that this is now expanded to ensure sites are protected to make this a reality. Let's be really clear ot build this extension the contruction works will need big areas for site works. This means Southwakr Council NOW putting out a SPD or simialr. Places like Cmaberwell Green, Heygate estates, Peckham Rye Common where the Lido were will be saught after to lower and recover tunnel boring machines. We'll have many many 10,000 of lorry movements. Fine. They would all be in a good cause. But the detailed planning and actions for this need to start.
  16. Hi first mate, I've been assured this week by the officers concerned that will officially release their decision - to refuse. The Southwark website documents often confuse PC's and you need to press "Ctrl -" to reduce the size and then miraculouly the document appears. Please try that. regards james. EDITED To make it clear "Ctrl -"
  17. Hi richard tudor, I've given detail of the average and 85th percentile speeds at two points taken along Lordship Lane earleir in the thread. Please do take a look at them. Unforutnately the surveys havent yet been placed on the Southwark mapping system for public access. I've chased this. If roads were good for retial shopping malls would have roads and pavements in them. They don't. Now I'm not saying block the roads - although that has helped North Cross Road market. I'm saying lets ensure all traffic not just the vast majority drive responsibly through this high footfall area. If you're not sure please do read the whole Mary Portas Review for further back ground.
  18. Renata that a bit cheeky. Cross party motions at full council.. Southwark and Lewisham MP's, GLA Assembly Members, letters, emails to Boris. AND recently a petition organised by Peter John. The money would need to come from the govt. And if it does fund it in these times it shows up all the past govts who didnt provide funding when they were relatively flush in comparison. The route then becomes critical...
  19. I wonder whether shop with flat above wouldnt be more suitable for this location.
  20. The next planning committee 26 March will decide on application 12-AP-3563 "EAST DULWICH ESTATE SITE BOUNDED BY DOG KENNEL HILL QUORN ROAD PYTCHELEY ROAD AND ALBRIGHTON ROAD SE22" A proposal for "Erection of two blocks of flats accommodating 27 flats (comprised of 'Gatebeck' a three storey building located to south west side of Pytchley Road, between Felbridge and Gatcombe House with 9 flats, being 3 x 2-bed, 6 x 3-bed, and 'Southdown' on north east side of Pytchley Road to east of Melbreak House, of four storeys with 18 flats, being 8 x 1-bed, 2 x 2-bed, 8 x 3-bed); and conversion of existing drying rooms across the Estate into 18 flats (12 x studio flats, 3 x 1-bed, 3 x 2-bed); (TOTAL 45 new flats in new build/conversion) and external landscaping work across the Estate as part of an overall regeneration programme; alterations to existing car parking areas in the proximity of the proposed new flats, and additional car parking to land adjacent to Wilton House and altered access and parking provision to Wheatland House."
  21. Hi EDLove, I've also reported the broken light at the top of the ramp from platform 2. If they keep failing to clean it then I believe we have recourse to an Environmental Act. Bit atomic but if its not fixed by the middle of next week will start that ball rolling. Might need a private posecution which would be interesting if relationship destroying. Hi Fazer71, I feel guilty for asking but it would be immensely helpful. With have a little sum of money we could use if we precisley document what we're asking for. Hi TopTree, Will look into organising this again - we did this two years ago with expectation it would be come a regular maintenance habit. How wrong.
  22. Hi TJ, DJKQ This is the report stating the cost to the country of crashes: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/9275/rrcgb2011-02.pdf Thankfully we've not had any deaths. So taking the number of serious crashes (4) and number of minor crashes (70) divided by the data period of 6 years gives us an average annual cost to society of ?409k or ?78.65 per East Dulwich household per year. Doing nothing is extremely expensive. Making Lordship 20mph speed limit will cost around ?15k. But their is also the annual cost of people on average reducing their speed 1-2 mph. Lets say 1.5mph. Traffic surveys show average every day of 24,053 vehicles going north and south along this part of Lordship Lane - or 8.8m vehicles pa. The speed reduction will on avarege mean drivers driving the whole length will lose 2.77seconds. Lets assume all travel the entire length. This would equate to 6,771 lost hours per year. The London mean wage is http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/dcp171778_286243.pdf ?650pw or ?17.50ph. So assuming half the hours lost are working hours annual cost would be ball park ?60k vs an annual saving of ?409k. I don't see why East Dulwich residents should pay more for the likes of you to speed. I don't get your right to speed and harm our community. Not sure how much we can factor in the Portas effect. Such traffic safety was one of her recommendations to help high streets compete with shopping malls, etc. Assuming her recommendations are correct then local businesses should expect some benefit from Lordship Lane being 20mph - some have privately emailed asking for it to happen ASAP.
  23. That 's a tough one because you'll need to travel during the morning rushhour tail. I'd catch a 40 to E&C then a 12 or 148. The 40's have lots of leg/wriggle room upstairs. Kids generally love sitting on the top deck of buses and lots of observation games you can play.
  24. Hi TJ, Not sure anyone has seen my mug in 'the southwark rag'. When Lordship Lane 20mph proceeds to consultation you should make these points. Yes you're right in the sense that it is a balancing act - those that want ot drive fast through a high street and those who wish to use a high street safely.
  25. Hi fazer71, Yes, their are a number of puddles around there. The problem in many cases is the private pavement areas. If you felt able to list the puddles on council highway I'd be happy ot raise them all as requests to be fixed.
