  1. Hi Worker, Thank you. Yes, the portion of footpath nearest the road is Southwarks full responsibility. The section nearer shops is usually owned by the shop. The shop want to avoid spending money but equaly look attractive and not incur personal injury cliams. If you want to make a list of those that you think particualryl pose a risk that owuld be useful and we can ask the owners how they plan to emeloriate the risk.
  2. Hi worldwiser, The Co op have appleid to extend existing licence from 6am-10pm to 5am-11pm and late night refreshment 11pm to 5am. Effectively they can sell 23/7. Any review of licences could include cnditions around deliveries. So if I were you I'd contact the licensing officers and state that deliveries are an issues and ask for conditions aorund times of deliveries. I've not been able to track down any planning conditions about times of opening or deliveries. I've asked officers if they have any recorded. hope this helps. Regards james.
  3. They were switched on last Wednesday and operate from dusk to midnight every day. I was given a sneak preview Wednesday morning. They've replaced the original white up lighters installed around 2005 that previous councillors organised but which weren't maintainable and broke down quite quickly - 2006/7 from memory. I've been assured these ones will be maintained and should last some time. If any artists have idea about pattern etc they can be reprogrammed for variety. Hope people like them.
  4. I asked to be copied because it inform me should my original stance feel wrong. So far people copying me it about 3 to 2 for the Co op being open and selling alcohol. Equally the number of emails we receive helps us decide priorities. We only have so many hours.
  5. This feedback has been surprising. If supports could make tell me if they live within a few hundred metres of the Ccop that would be useful. If most people do then perhaps I've got it wrong.
  6. Despite the many who use this forum many don't. So it's a useful sounding board but in the end I have to act in what I consider the best interests of the area. But I've highlighted how to comment for or against These applications. For this decision a licensing sub committee of three councillors will decide on these two interconnected applications. I won't be one of them nor will my ward colleagues.
  7. Hi Neilson99, I don't think it's fair to say people living in areas that were quiet when they moved there, and if pre Tessa Jowell licensing 2003 law it wasnt legally possible to have late night bars and pub let alone 24/7 alcolhol sale, should move if they're unhappy rather than objecting. We want a stable long term community if we're to solve many of our local problems.
  8. Hi Lynne, Self service can be used to reduce staff, extend hours or improve customer service. Apparently the large ground floor staff area will be much reduced releasing space for other library uses - hope fully more books.
  9. Sainsbury's aren't open 24hours any more. The 'we' is East Dulwich ward councillors. We think the area already has sufficient 24/7 corner stores. But a proper supermarket being open 24/7 could lead to it being a destination and parking issues. We think the residents around Lordship Lane deserve a break at least during the nights.
  10. Sadly Jeremy many can't. I've visited around exam times and upstairs pupils/students would be sitting on the stairs, at every desk. That's when I asked they open the hall up when it wasnt booked for people to study at desks.
  11. EDITED to correct errors - those errors were based on emails sent directly to me but since amended. Sorry. The Coop has applied to extend its current alcohol license and to opening close to 24/7. Selling allcohol for off premise sales 06:00-23:00 and "Late night refreshment - indoors" 23:00-05:00. This is possible under the Licencesing Act 2003. This seems like a bad idea. It's one thing having a small corner shop open 24/7 which is likely ot just serve locals and the odd passing trade. We fear the Coop being open 6am to 5am every day will become a night time destination and have formally objected. But what do you think? If you think it's a good or bad idea please do tell council officials before the 27 March deadline. Email [email protected] and copy me [email protected] We don't want such a potentially big decision affecting East Dulwich Night Time Economy to be taken without as much local input as possible.
  12. Wednesday 6 March The Harris Dulwich primary school team will be interviewed by the Dept of Education team about a new Dulwich primary school. We then hear early May whether we've been successful. We've sufficient support for one school but seek more support to have two new primary schools locally. So any support between now and Wednesday lunch time would be really helpful.
  13. Perverse considering the library hall was closed for a month late last year. Would you ever see a shop closed for a month for a refurb. The Coop was closed for 10 days and had much more done to it than the Library plans. Real issue of librarires using library builders and no shop fitters. Also shop fitters are quiet and desperate for business during lead up to Christmas for example - fantastic value can be found then for a library to be refurbished. The rfub will include self service terminals and free up a lot of space for people and books.
  14. Hi edhistory, I have been a member of the East Dulwich Society for several years but believe I've let my membership lapse - but not sure as I haven't knowingly received a letter for renewing my subscription or a newsletter.
  15. Hi worldwiser, Useful feedback. Thank you. I had some casework for this issue about 3 years ago. So hopefully not a repetition of that.
  16. http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=9547620 The decision has been taken but the online system isnt yet showing this. On the above URL page you can read all the documentation. Hope this helps Calsug.
  17. I'm amazed by Sainsbury's attitude. Whether people visit their shop by foot, bike, bus or car I doubt Sainsbury's wont to deter shoppers by making them feel insecure. Repointing or adding a CCTV camera is trivial - I've just organised the latter at my day job. When people were attacked in St.Francis Park that Sainsbury's is legally accountabel to maintain and were supposed to keep locked after sundown - they reintroduced part gate locking and we've not had any further reported incidents. So corporately they appear ot have some care. Hi AndrewFFF, If you want to increase the chance of Sainsbury's doing the decent thing for cyclists PM me for lcoal press contacts.
  18. I can confirm the second planning application has been refused: http://jamesbarber.mycouncillor.org.uk/2013/03/01/ms-planning-application-rejected/ The freeholder could appeal - hopefully they wont but instead will put in a proper applications addressing the site issues.
  19. Thanks for that Renata. For East Dulwich ward parents - if you need any help or support around secondary admissions (or any other issue) please either call or email me or one of my colleagues: James Barber [email protected] 07900 227366 Jonathan Mitchell [email protected] 07903 967911 Rosie Shimell [email protected] 020 7525 3488 We're available for home visits and have reserved time over this weekend and next week specifically for this. NB. Liam White is on holiday today but available from Monday.
  20. Hi edhistory, I thin the point susiq is making is that the areas night time economy is causing problems for many residents. Many people chose to live hear before the 2005 licensing laws which have led to the area having much more alcolhol related problems - London Ambulance Service have recorded a 500% increase in calls related to alcohol abuse. Hi susiq, We're working on this issue and hope to come back to you in April on this.
  21. Hi Kailyn, You're much more likely normally to be burgled in the first 6 months of moving into a home. To can drstaically reduce this by making a big effort to get to know all your neighbours. In the process they get to know you and then spot suspicious behavoiour around your home. But as Prunella_Gatsby says. we are a low crime area for London but that is zero concilation to those who have the misfortune to become victims of crime.
  22. Hi Freddy1929, I've been assured the new replacement maintainable East Dulwich station up lighters will be switch on later today. I was given a little demo this morning. The other issues is the ticket office which is having a new low level counter added making it accessible to more people. This will open on Tuesday. And lastly the new screen by the ticket machines is working a treat now.
  23. Hi Freddy1929, Yes I was nonplussed when I was told they needed a different software version. I've been assured they'll be fab when working. As for maintenance, as they've been approved and project managed by the councils lighting department they'll maintain them. Unlike the up lighters arranged by the previous local councillors.
  24. Hi Calsug, Long saga. Applied for funding which we approved against Council lighting department quote. New lights slightly bigger than existing non maintianable up lighters. So diamond drilling to increase their size. Pulling new cables and new electric connection to the mains. Lights don't switch on. Back to the manufacturers who state a new software download is required. Download, donwloaded and still dont work. New uplighters to be provided by suppliers and installed and then they should work. I've been told by end of this month ie. this week. NB. this is only for the semi circle of up lighters. The two uplighters either end of the two bridge supports (so that's 8) are not included in this scheme. I'm sure we'll come back to these at a later date.
  25. Hi P68, edhistory, Thanks Penguin68 for collating those states for the four wards. I have tried to get just SE22 crime stats which I agree is how most people think of East Dulwich. I think people were interested in residential burglary rather than the total of all crimes. East Dulwich ward has a lot of crimes associated with having a high street. Hi Pugwash, LPrince, We're investigating how we can help fight this issue. Providing free window locks is one idea but getting people to install them is a real issue. Hi mynameanywhere, I'd be amazed if the police respond to your queries with anything the'd wish to be made public. Local Police have said that the most that can be publicly statesd- other than sash windows on ground floors - is they have several lines of enquiry.
