  1. Decision published: http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=9547620 The officer report backing this up will be scanned today and added onto the website.
  2. I've finally obtained TfL traffic light documentation for the area after an FOI appeal. Any traffic light experts out there who can explain what it all means? This comes from obersving traffic lights where the pedestrian phases werent green as long as they could be. TfL then got clammy about us finding more.
  3. Hi Southerner39, Then why have they applied for this?
  4. Hi Barrie, That's a bit disengeuous. All administrations have choices of where to spend the money they have available. You chose cuts on street cleaning, dog poo clearing and other services. But you've chosen to spend it on brand new projects and programmes. And yes technically the streets are litter picked every other day but East dulwich residents have produced photographic evidence where their streets havent been litter picked for weeks on end. So the services is now much more hit or miss. I suspect the round the litter pickers have are just too long to complete every other day. As an East dulwich councillor we get lots of direct feedback and through mechanisms such as this. I don't recognise 93% of residents being happy with street cleaning. I think many would like a detailed explanation of how this figure is calculated.
  5. Hi Sue, Planning meetings are during the evening. They use to largely be local but now centred on council HQ at 160 Tooley Street, SE1. Quite close to London Bridge station. So no reason why licensing meetings in theory couldnt be during the evening unless the license applicant is more importants than residents. Te former tend to be a tiny team at most and the latter tend to be many more when contentious. The trouble is the system is already slanted to favour applicants. The burden of proof is residents proving something will cause harm - a complete reversal of the pre Tessa Jowell 2003 licensing law. To make it even more painful you have to register at least a week in advance that you're going to go. Hardly a publci meeting. The obvious thing to do is hld meetings in the day or evening dependant upon the people expressing an interest. If no one is interested use a daytime meeting. IF people have expressed an interest hold it in the evening or a Saturday preferably in the area involved.
  6. Mrs HF, The proposal would see the Dept of Education buy property/land from the Dept of Health. Dulwich Hospital is 27,000m2. A primary school would need around 5,000m2. Hope that answers your question. As for Academy controls. Southwark have from memory 15 state one's, 4 locally in Southwark. Harris respectively run 3 and 2 of them. Primary schools 75 states/religious one's of which Harris currently run 2. I don't think either category Harris have a monopoly. Whether it was the last govt or the current one the only show in town for new schools is as a form of academy OR we allow existing schools to balloon into huge supersized schools: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-17012972 http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/2012-03-22/how-many-pupils-is-too-many/
  7. All good points Sue.
  8. For those that wish to attend the licensing hearing it will now take place 10am 30 May at room G02A, 160 Tooley Street, SE1. Please see attached hearing letter, comittee procedures and proforma if you'd like to tell the committee you're going. We're now trying to one of the East dulwich councillors to change leave from day jobs to cover this. Do tell us if you're planning to attend.
  9. Hi Dapacouly, I agree work needs to be done there as well but unfortunately the section of Lordship Lane between Upland and Melbourne form the border between East Dulwich ward and Village ward. Village ward councillors wouldnt even agree to make Melbourne Grove between Lordship Lane and East Dulwich Grove 20mph and it already has speed cushions and vehicles don't travel much on average above 20mph! Glad you found that website interesting. Southwark Council website has a mapping section with lots of various details - they don't keep it very current without prodding - traffic counts from last year on Lordship Lane still not enterrerd - but still interesting.
  10. East Dulwoich Road new zebra crossing to connect the Tesco Metro: http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgIssueHistoryHome.aspx?IId=20877&Opt=0 Shame its not proposed where the parade of shops are located.
  11. Hi Dame Dulwich, What reduction in parking? When the crossing were introduced we ensured more than the lost parking was provided by rearrnaigng existing parking restrictions. Please do take a look at www.crashmap.co.uk at the area. You can see Lordship Lane is a ribbon of crahses and most residential streets have very few crashes on them. Do point out any residential street you feel has been overlooked to be made safer. In East Dulwich ward we've ensured all the residential streets wholly in the ward are 20mph excepting Melbourne Grove southern half which we share with Village ward, East Dulwich Rad, Grove Vale, Lordship Lane, Barry Road.
  12. Hi KK, Loss of amenity from memory - but it was a long detailed explanation of a number of factors sent to me what 6-8 weeks ago. Residents that had emailed the case officer received the reply and I was copied on one of them. Regards james.
  13. The possibly Dulwich Library front counter would be rarely open and staffed. Certainly not the equivalent or better service Boris made last year in his election manifesto. We're talking about a couple of hours each week. From experience such surgeries don't see many visitors because you have to know exactly when they're running and attend the times at just those opening hours. It makes it a special trip to weave into all of lifes many demands. Versus a turn up and go service.
  14. Hi Renata, Rye Lane is a Southwark Road so would expect Suthwark to be the enforcing body. Regards james.
  15. But the forecast is for 1 degree C so it should keep melting and not settle or become icy.
  16. The Dulwich Library will now re open Monday 15 April. please see attached. Rather unfortunate seond 6 week closure after previpus 4 week closure late 2012 but I'm hopeful we wont need any further closures for a good number of years now...
  17. Hi Uncleben, What rubbish. Lib Dems want to see medical services provided at Dulwich Hospital. We'd like more that serve local residents. But it would be wholly inappropriate for all 27,000m2 to be rebuilt as an acute hospital - it would be sub scale and therefore the medics wouldnt get enough practice to give the safest possible care. The actual buildings. The architects we've spoken to believe most of the buildings are of poor buiud quality. Health professionals have said they need around 5,000m2 for the extended community medical care likely to be provided. That leaves 22,000m2 for other community uses - such a new primary schools, such as temporarily housing for 5-7 years a local Police base. Hi P68, Of course Policing can happen without a local base. But the Police estimate 1/4 of their time will be spent travelling to and from a base in Camberwell and NOT spent actually policing in the Dulwich area. That is grossly inefficient and I'm surprised you're promoting such a publci waste of money. But I believe you live in Peckham Rye ward so wont be directly affected by these changes.
  18. Hi P68, A set of posts had talked about speeding cars close to Plough Lane. I've poijnted out the nearest traffic count to that location where many would be breaking or accelerating due to the traffic lights. Indeed the 20mph proposals are further north. Hi Dapacouly, The worst junction along there for recorded crashes is Lordship Lane with Heber Road. Mostly pedestrians crossing the road to/from the bus stop I'd guess. BUT by far the highest number of collissions and crashes are between Melbourne Grove and Goose Green.
  19. The key is to keep a noise diary and engage Southwarks Noise Team. Renata kindly provided a cut and paste of the Southwark Noise page which explains what noise officers expect from residents to avoid their involvement: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/412/noise_problems/377/be_a_considerate_neighbour " Be a considerate neighbour Advice on how to keep your noise levels low at home Remember that neighbours sharing party walls, floors and ceilings tend to be worst affected by noise, and that noise can cause problems depending on: ?how loud it is ?how long it lasts ?how often it occurs ?the time of day it happens. Late night party goers ?If you're having a party or barbecue, remember to warn your neighbours in advance and tell them what time it will finish. ?Keep the music turned down low and don't stand outside on balconies or in gardens late at night. ?Ask your guests to go home quietly. Noise outside ?Don't operate noisy appliances or equipment such as lawn mowers or power tools late at night or early in the morning. ?If you're playing music outside, try to keep it at a level that cannot be heard outside your boundary. ?Make sure your children don't cause too much noise, especially by kicking balls against the neighbour's walls. ?If you have a marquee, remember that it has no sound insulation and all the noise you make inside will be heard outside. Radios, stereos, TVs and musical instruments ?Keep the volume as low as possible and if you have bass control on your stereo make sure it's turned right down. ?Late at night you should use headphones or listen to music on a personal stereo. ?If you play a musical instrument avoid practicing early in the morning or late evening/night. ?If the instrument has an amplifier, turn the volume down or preferably use headphones. Household repairs and improvements ?Let your neighbours know beforehand if you are carrying out potentially noisy operations, using power tools or working on party walls or floors. ?Carry out noisy operations during the day keeping the evening for less noisy work such as painting and decorating. ?Don't leave DIY equipment running - switch it off when not being used. ?Remember that hired equipment, e.g. mixers, generators are often more powerful and noisier than DIY versions. ?Use hand tools wherever possible and complete the work as quickly as you can. Domestic appliances ?Noisy appliances such as washing machines, spin dryers, freezers and fridges should not be situated next to party walls. ?Washing machines and spin dryers should stand on a solid floor or placed on a carpet or rubber mat to reduce vibration. ?Don't operate noisy appliances late at night or early in the morning. Vehicles and repairs ?Try to do noisy repairs during the day (avoid Sundays) and if possible carry out work in a garage. ?Don't rev the engine excessively and keep in-car music levels down and the windows closed. ?Remember to close doors quietly and use horns only in emergencies. Dogs ?Don't let your dog bark or whine for long periods or leave it alone. ?If your dog barks constantly when left alone or disturbed keep it indoors. ?If your dog still barks when indoors make arrangements to leave it with a neighbour or friend or get someone to call in. ?Leave its' favourite toy or put the radio on at a very low volume. ?If it's a real problem consult your vet for advice about training. "
  20. Hi KalamityKel, You do use unusual language to make such a point. Huge amount of angst for and against M&S arriving and the planning applicationactually submitted. Officers told me and emailed other residents that the application would be refused. None of those communications had embargoes and I've never seen such a decision take so very long to be recorded on the Southwark Planning portal. We differ. I think I've been reasonable and measured. You think I've jumped the gun by telling people news officers have told me and other residents in realteively timely manner - funnily enough I delayed by a week as I was on holiday.
  21. Traffic surveys have been undertaken on Lordship Lane between its junctions with Barry Road and Friern Road. http://maps.southwark.gov.uk/connect/index.jsp?tooltip=yes Sept 2012 southbound mean av. 26.1mph speed 85th precentile 31.3mph 10,044 vehicles per day on averahge. Northbound 24.9mph mean av. 30.9mph 85th percentile 8,495 vehicles per day. Very similar data from traffic counts Sept 2010 and Sept 2011. So it is entirely likely that proportion as suggested will be travelling at 40mph or more.
  22. Hi EDlove, Yes it does look much better. And yes I'm hopeful they'll now stick to a proper litter picking regime on the Network Rail land but have chased again for proper details of the proposed ongoing solution.
  23. Hi first mate, The response I've had is that the officer concerned was redirected to more pressing work for a booked committee and that they expect it to be logged on the website early next week. I'm not holding my breath.
  24. Hi KalamtyKal, I was emailed that a decision had been taken and I reported it. I've never experienced such slow Southwark planning portal update. Sorry but I can't second guess when officers will complete the processes they have to follow. If you ever think a councillor has leaked something then report them/me to Southwark Council monitoring officer. I can assure you yet again that I've not leaked anything. hi First Mate, I'll chase again for the M&S decision to be formally logged on the website. I've never had this experience before and sorry for the angst its causing you, me and others. Hi tiddles, This does seems bizarre. And no I've not had an officer explanation yet. What's particularly frustrating is that resources are tight and other trees desperately need trimming having been left for many years and causing a piblic nuisance.
  25. One way streets usually result in faster traffic. Faster traffic is often a deterrent to people cycling and walking. So the aim of reverting to two way operation is in my opinion good - assuming encouraging walking and cycling is good. When I'm cycling I avoid the area even though it avoids Dog Kennel Hill. So I rarely pass Bellenden shops. The current roads to me a confident cyclists feels dangerous. But I don't live on these streets and it does soundalike the consultation hasn't been done well. So how would people make that area safer and calm traffic and ideally remove one way streets?
