Hi Renata, That's really disingenuous of you. Yes council budgets have been cut. But your administration as also chosen a number of 'pork fat belly' political projects. So you've ad to make much tougher cuts to fund those. So it's clear we have different priorities. ED cllrs keeping streets clean yours include free school meals often for children from wealthy families.

Tomorrow letters detailing primary school allocations will be sent out 1st class and will be available online from 5pm. If you're dissapointed with your families allocation please get in touch. Between 17 April and 2 May when people confirm places and waiting lists do shift. Last year in Southwark 78% of families received their first choice primary school. Southwark will as always will also provide support for families unhappy with their allocation. Of the 145 families who didnt get one of their six preferences 72 came from the wider East Dulwich area. Fingers crossed for everyone.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?

Hi ED1985, UncelBen, Penguin68, Chillaxed, My understanding is that sign does not have planning permission. That the previous sign that didnt have planning permission has been replaced with a bigger sign again without planning permission. Planning Enforcement have a long term case about these signs and are again seeking the freeholder to resolve this situation before resorting to an enforcement notice - they can either apply for permission or remove or have at the allowable scale. Planning rules should be enforced without fear or favour. In this case clear conflict between householders who don't wont their street turned over to industrial estate signs vs. smaller businesses trying to make a living. I would suggest they only need sufficient signage for their destination clients and suppliers to find them. The location is unlikely to create much passing trade. Thanks UncleBen and Chillaxed. I could do with being chillaxed. -

Thames Water works are planned on Melbourne Grove - between Blackwater Street and Colwell Road - starting tomorrow 15 April until Monday 27 May. Not sure from the info I've received whether the whole road will be closed or not - but loading, waiting and parking along that part of Melbourne. So the wider area is likely to have extra parking pressure. I'll be trying to gee things along. -

I've received this communication about possible Freeview TV reception. Any probs please let me know. " In preparation for the 4G mobile phone network roll out, a company called at800 has been setup to test interference issues that may arise between the 4G mobile signal and digital Freeview television signals. at800 have confirmed that they will be carrying out testing in Southwark from 15 April onwards, however they have yet to confirm which specific areas the tests will be taking place so we are unable to quantify the potential impact. During the testing, residents may experience TV reception issues. at800 will be writing to residents in the areas where the testing will take place and will advise residents to contact them directly. Interference can normally be solved by installing a filter, which at800 provide for free. We expect residents will be contacting the Council about TV reception issues, particularly those who are connected to Council communal TV aerials. We have made arrangements at the CSC and advised resident officers on how to handle these calls. " -
I've finally obtained TfL traffic light documentation for the area after an FOI appeal. Any traffic light experts out there who can explain what it all means? This comes from obersving traffic lights where the pedestrian phases werent green as long as they could be. TfL then got clammy about us finding more.

Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 23/7
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Southerner39, Then why have they applied for this? -
Hi Barrie, That's a bit disengeuous. All administrations have choices of where to spend the money they have available. You chose cuts on street cleaning, dog poo clearing and other services. But you've chosen to spend it on brand new projects and programmes. And yes technically the streets are litter picked every other day but East dulwich residents have produced photographic evidence where their streets havent been litter picked for weeks on end. So the services is now much more hit or miss. I suspect the round the litter pickers have are just too long to complete every other day. As an East dulwich councillor we get lots of direct feedback and through mechanisms such as this. I don't recognise 93% of residents being happy with street cleaning. I think many would like a detailed explanation of how this figure is calculated.

Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 23/7

Hi Sue, Planning meetings are during the evening. They use to largely be local but now centred on council HQ at 160 Tooley Street, SE1. Quite close to London Bridge station. So no reason why licensing meetings in theory couldnt be during the evening unless the license applicant is more importants than residents. Te former tend to be a tiny team at most and the latter tend to be many more when contentious. The trouble is the system is already slanted to favour applicants. The burden of proof is residents proving something will cause harm - a complete reversal of the pre Tessa Jowell 2003 licensing law. To make it even more painful you have to register at least a week in advance that you're going to go. Hardly a publci meeting. The obvious thing to do is hld meetings in the day or evening dependant upon the people expressing an interest. If no one is interested use a daytime meeting. IF people have expressed an interest hold it in the evening or a Saturday preferably in the area involved. -
Proposed Harris Primary School
James Barber replied to rgutsell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Mrs HF, The proposal would see the Dept of Education buy property/land from the Dept of Health. Dulwich Hospital is 27,000m2. A primary school would need around 5,000m2. Hope that answers your question. As for Academy controls. Southwark have from memory 15 state one's, 4 locally in Southwark. Harris respectively run 3 and 2 of them. Primary schools 75 states/religious one's of which Harris currently run 2. I don't think either category Harris have a monopoly. Whether it was the last govt or the current one the only show in town for new schools is as a form of academy OR we allow existing schools to balloon into huge supersized schools: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-17012972 http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/2012-03-22/how-many-pupils-is-too-many/ -
All good points Sue.

For those that wish to attend the licensing hearing it will now take place 10am 30 May at room G02A, 160 Tooley Street, SE1. Please see attached hearing letter, comittee procedures and proforma if you'd like to tell the committee you're going. 20 MPH Limit Lordship Lane
James Barber replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Dapacouly, I agree work needs to be done there as well but unfortunately the section of Lordship Lane between Upland and Melbourne form the border between East Dulwich ward and Village ward. Village ward councillors wouldnt even agree to make Melbourne Grove between Lordship Lane and East Dulwich Grove 20mph and it already has speed cushions and vehicles don't travel much on average above 20mph! Glad you found that website interesting. Southwark Council website has a mapping section with lots of various details - they don't keep it very current without prodding - traffic counts from last year on Lordship Lane still not enterrerd - but still interesting. -

20 MPH Limit Lordship Lane
James Barber replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Dame Dulwich, What reduction in parking? When the crossing were introduced we ensured more than the lost parking was provided by rearrnaigng existing parking restrictions. Please do take a look at www.crashmap.co.uk at the area. You can see Lordship Lane is a ribbon of crahses and most residential streets have very few crashes on them. Do point out any residential street you feel has been overlooked to be made safer. In East Dulwich ward we've ensured all the residential streets wholly in the ward are 20mph excepting Melbourne Grove southern half which we share with Village ward, East Dulwich Rad, Grove Vale, Lordship Lane, Barry Road. -

Hi KK, Loss of amenity from memory - but it was a long detailed explanation of a number of factors sent to me what 6-8 weeks ago. Residents that had emailed the case officer received the reply and I was copied on one of them. Regards james. -
The possibly Dulwich Library front counter would be rarely open and staffed. Certainly not the equivalent or better service Boris made last year in his election manifesto. We're talking about a couple of hours each week. From experience such surgeries don't see many visitors because you have to know exactly when they're running and attend the times at just those opening hours. It makes it a special trip to weave into all of lifes many demands. Versus a turn up and go service.

Hi Renata, Rye Lane is a Southwark Road so would expect Suthwark to be the enforcing body. Regards james.

But the forecast is for 1 degree C so it should keep melting and not settle or become icy.

The Dulwich Library will now re open Monday 15 April. please see attached. Rather unfortunate seond 6 week closure after previpus 4 week closure late 2012 but I'm hopeful we wont need any further closures for a good number of years now... -
Hi Uncleben, What rubbish. Lib Dems want to see medical services provided at Dulwich Hospital. We'd like more that serve local residents. But it would be wholly inappropriate for all 27,000m2 to be rebuilt as an acute hospital - it would be sub scale and therefore the medics wouldnt get enough practice to give the safest possible care. The actual buildings. The architects we've spoken to believe most of the buildings are of poor buiud quality. Health professionals have said they need around 5,000m2 for the extended community medical care likely to be provided. That leaves 22,000m2 for other community uses - such a new primary schools, such as temporarily housing for 5-7 years a local Police base. Hi P68, Of course Policing can happen without a local base. But the Police estimate 1/4 of their time will be spent travelling to and from a base in Camberwell and NOT spent actually policing in the Dulwich area. That is grossly inefficient and I'm surprised you're promoting such a publci waste of money. But I believe you live in Peckham Rye ward so wont be directly affected by these changes.
