  1. Hi Fuschia, I'm not sure that many mums drive to Melbourne, Derwent, Elsie, tintagel or Matham to have lunch between 11am and noon. If a scheme were to ever happen would noon-1pm be better for mums. I don't think so. As a dad I've always used push chair or bus - bus didn't work with our double buggy but everywhere locally seems within 10mins push. I kind of see your point about Grove Vale library morning session but surely people walk/push buggies there?
  2. Which road?
  3. Hi Tut tut, I've attached Southwark Councils leaflet about bed bugs which can be found on the Southwark Council website with other leaflets on pests - Bedbugs, Coackroaches, Ghost ants, Mice, Pharoah abnts and Rate: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/431/pest_control/1343/preventing_pest_problems I hadn't heard that we're a hotspot for them but after reading these leaflet s I certainly feel itchy! The council pest control service is free to council tenants but can also be used for a charge by general residents call - 0800 952 4444. The general advice is you need professinoal help to get rid of bedbugs. Hope this helps.
  4. Testing residents about whether they want a CPZ and if the initial research shows they do and its' implimented costs around ?50,000. AS reported around Herne Hill they've created controlled parking that instead of operating 7am-6pm operates from noon to 2pm. So it has the effect of killing commuter parking but trying to minimise the effect for visitors etc with options for visitor parking. No reason why a CPZ near ED station could'nt be created that operated 11am to noon - this minimises impact on passing trade for shops. Would mean visitors coming for lunch wouldn't be impacted and local residents could park on their streets - which currently many report they find almost impossible. In fact another street Holmdene has successfully pleaded to join the Herne Hill CPZ. The implimentation resulting in zero reduction in car parking spaces and no additional yellow lines. So, Loz don't know why you'd think lots more yellow lines would go in. Some considerable time ago a consultation was run in the ED area - we must be talking 8-10 years ago. What was proposed was the full CPZ operating from 7am-6pm which I think really heavy handed opertating hours. Since that time the idea of operating just in the middle of the day has been developed and appears to have been very successful in the Herne Hill area to fight commuter parking. Short term though we've tried to reduce the parking pressure by using CGS funds to triple the number of Car Club cars in East Dulwich from 4 to 15. Otto, TRRL research shows you need to place cycle parking maximum of 20-50m from the front door. I've spoken to council officers and the train operating company about could we have mopre cycle lockers and we couldn't think of wher to put them that met this criteria. Beside ED station is various bits of woodland which I'm told are privately owned or have no access or the access would be a couple of hundred metres walk away.
  5. I spent Thursday evening walking the streets of East Dulwich with the lead officers boss for street lighting. We're in the process of finalising where to spend this financial years devolved budget for street lighting renewals - ?50,000. This is one policy that probably wont survive the Labour running the council. We have 18 lampposts whose steel at the base has eroded by over 70%. Due to EDF Energy having a monopoly of local connections it costs ?2,000 to replace lampposts. The remaining ?14,000. Would like to replace the very few yellow SOX lighting. Apart from the yellow being rather dim it uses twice the energy of brighter SON whiter lighting and slightly more than twice than the super bright Cosmo lighting. We could use recycle SON lighting at ?200 a go or ?500 for new Cosmo lighting. The priority is Friern Road, Crystal Palace Road and Dunstans Road where the SOX lighting is still present - but after the 'red' status lamp posts. Also talked about remote controlled lighting etc. So I learnt loads. If anyone wants to discuss street lighting please do get in touch.
  6. I think I've found out the cause of this confusion and others. They've reopened the Dulwich Leisure Centre and not changed the phone messages. On the phone messages it states 27m x 3 lane pool - wheras it changes to 25m x 4 lanes. It states the entrance is on East Dulwich Road - but it now Crystala Palace Road. It mentions direct buses and indirect buses via Lordship Lane but not those running via Peckham Rye. Needless to say I've reported this but pretty miffed council officers and fusion haven't the sense to check these lines and the messages.
  7. I met local Police and council officers about this junction. Many thanks to them. Reviewing the crash data council officers explained that they only receive details where personal injuries are concerned. Local Police don't have access to crash data - just incident reports for the last 6 months they have to trawl through manually ie. every crime. Clearly no intention for local Police to help council officers on a local level. Anyway, we compared the Underhill junction with Upland Road junction with Barry Road. The former has now had 10 personal injury crashes in the last 3 years. The latter zero on the junction and 1 on the adjacent Pelican crossing. The sightlines from the eastern side of Underhill looked fine. Those from the western arm appear the problem. We thought that the Underhill Road junction road marking had nearly completely gone. Near immediately - officers will be arranging for the road markings to be completely renewed. Short term - when the next Traffic Management Order in Dulwich is raised (we're due one in the next month or two) that they include changing the Give Way signs to STOP signs - as Upland Road junction has. Medium term - build a raised entry treatment on the western side of Underhill Raod with potentially more kerb build out on the sw side of Barry Road to increase sightlines - as Upland Road junction has. Each of these measures should make it clearer it's a junction and attempt to get drivers to take more care. Other thoughts explored were mini roundabout, raised junction, lots of double yellow lines, average speed cameras, speed activated signs. Various reasons they didn't seem suitable. Have to 'talk' those through with anyone by email.
  8. I've spoken to local Police. The car once located in the north of the borough had to be 'forensically lifted' due to the extreme nature of obtaining the keys and then taken away for detailed forensic examination. The former apparently takes a day to arrange and the latter several days to perform it was implied mainly due to queuing. The place this is done is in Edmonton north London. Thankfully what took place is exceptionally rare but useful to warn people in case their was any attempt to repeat this crime locally.
  9. Hi Southwark Council, Shame the system hadn't been tested to ensure duff responses to residents emails and phone calls when asking for more biodegradeable bags. Has it now actually been tested? Generally, if anyone plans to complete the survey - and it is fundamentally flawed - make sure you add any comments IF you'd prefer to have a blue wheelie bins to the multiple blue bags and boxes. Officers have dug their heels in and refused to ask this question. Also, if you've had any issues as reported on this thread about rubbish being strewn around, nappies, etc, mention it.
  10. Hi sedgwick, As a generalisation East Dulwich people arn't in my opinion whingers. Virtually every contact I get is from people that have real issues - often they show an endemic problem that needs fixing for the benefit of all. Sometimes the issue only affects that person but really needs a more considerate application of a rule. Sometimes an explanation of why a ruling has been made is all that's required. Hi louisiana, Sounds shocking and hpefully you'll make a formal complaint. Without such complaints the PCT can't easilly hold the GP practice to account.
  11. Mobile reception might be helped by the new mast being deployed beside the railway line next to Greendale - just easy of the raileay bridge.. The associated cabinet is so big it must surely be for regular mobile services. Clever. Being on railway land it can side step planning permissions and the public process involved.
  12. No. It USED to be 27m x 10m with one corner where you couldn't walk around the side. During the complete renovation its been shortened a. so it s regular size so schools can have races etc, and b. so that corner you now can walk around the pool side.
  13. Hi cate, The pilot was planned to have two drops of food waste bags. One the week before the pilot started and another on 17 December. When I was briefed about the pilot I was told residents could call the 020 7525 2000 environment line for more BUT two sets of residnts so far have told me they were repeatedly foobed of and told to wait until 17 DEcember when they'll receive more. I've contacted the lead officer to get this sorted and clearly ridiculous. So, if you need bags please email me and I'll ask for them as the current process is not working and doesn't appear properly set=up or the call centre people havent had a new crib sheet issued/ training.
  14. Hi SeanHitz, The council would be required to repair the roof. The councils repair people might disagree with your surveyor. When I bought a freehold house the surveoyr said it needed the rood replaced urgently. We've just done it 8 years later and had no problems. Surveyors tend to be very cautious as no come back for that but if they miss something they can be sued. Equally the council can be painfully slow BUT when I leased a flat from a private freeholder that private freeholder was painfully slow. Usually I paid for the works to avoid the hassle. Hope this helps you.
  15. Hi Andrew, Please do let me know of any East Dulwich casework that I can help with. Problably worth making it crystal clear that councillors hold the council to account. Opposition councillors hold the administrations councillors to account and scrutinise them and Home Ownership Council is a consultative body that also helps hold everyone to account on its defined areas of council housing.
  16. Hi Nero, Attached is photo of the grit bin beside The Plough pub at southern end of Barry Road. The is the condition the contractors found it to be in and full of grit. Did you mean another grit bin?
  17. Hi DJKilllaQueen, Which ward are you saying you live in that had faceless Lib Dem councillors? East Dulwich ward has had Lib dem cllrs only since 2006. Dulwich Village ward has had one Lib Dem cllr elected this May. Other than that we're surrounded by a sea of Labour councillors and have been for decades with the odd Tory councillor. Hi louisiana, Useful report and link. Thank you.
  18. The Horniman Museum is a great resource for SE London. It's musical instrument collection I believe is of international standing with the bulk of the rest of the museum having regional value. This makes it quite tricky. It receives national funding which I'd guess results from the closure of the GLC by Thatcher but is largely a regional museum. The obvious thing would be for the bulk of such funding to be devolved to the appropriate level ie. London and the GLA which currently has Boris as Mayor. With some still coming from DCMS to recognise it musical collections. The transition is clearly of great concern. Probably the best way of showing REAL practical support NOW is to join the Friends of the Horniman Museum. It costs ?10 a year. I've attached the application form.
  19. Sorry Peckhamgatecrasher no route for extra green wheelie bin collections. It's now fortbightly for those in the pilot area.IF you live close to a non 'pilot' area you could concievably wheel it round to there but risk you'll lose your bin. With christmas coming I would advise everyone in the pilot areas to have such decluttering sessions BEFORE Christmas when we all generate lots of rubbish and the fortnightly bin collections will test us all. Hi Chocoholic, IF you email me your detaisl I will ensure you get replacement bags - clear stupididty that if people want more food waste bags they shoudl be sent out - end of. please email me at [email protected] with your name and address.
  20. Their is a waiting list for Saturday. Hence the public consultation about increasing the number of pitches from 20 to 30.
  21. Hi Nero, The grit bin will be removed by the councils contractor if unrepairable and replaced at a later date. Attached is this years winter service plan just received hot of the press. The plan clearly requires all grit bins to be checked before the winter starts - so unfortunately of to a bad start. It states 64 manual grit spreaders which is perplexing as last winter more than 64 were purchased. So I've asked where the others have gone. Please do take a look and highlight anything that you think is missing, or could be done better and I'll ask.
  22. Hi cate, Afraid Tetrapaks can;t go in the co mingling. The whole life of a Tetrapak in energy terms isn't good. Any collected tetrapaks get crated and shipped to Sweden for recycling. They're really complicated combination of high quality cardboard, aluminium and plastics. Complicated process to seperate all those. About a year ago I have an email conversation with tetrapak people asking for a full energy life cycle management report which they must have but they would'nt release it. So for now you'll need to take any to one of six 'bring' sites at major supermarkets - our nearest one in East duwich being Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill.
  23. Last night the Environment Director told me the figures for recyclnig in and out of the pilot areas will be available. Hopefully, they'll show the food waste 'pilot' with comingoling dry recyclecables and fortinghtly rubbish colleations is proving a roaring success. ANyone teething problems still out there?
  24. Hi Pebbles, Problem gone?
