antisocial behaviour on whateley road

If the Police have been involved then please JUST use them. Else parts of evidence get give to different bodies but the whole picture doesn't ncessarily come together. -

What is the patter for this? If we can know the pattern it might be possible for council officers to track down the person/s doing this. -

Thanks intexatthe moment. Dead obvious now. Hi northlondoner, I think your question has been answered by other while I was flumoxed. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just heard that the no.78 bus route in Spring 2011 will become a double decker bus route. So people on the very eatern edges of East Dulwich will see some benefit from that. -

No, I was asking what Northlondoner meant with "someromes" as they seem to point a post at me that word in it and without knowing what this word was meant to have been their post made no sense to me. I'm still mystified. -
Proposed cycle superhighway to run down Lordship Lane
James Barber replied to benmorg's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Cycle Superhighways are as good as TfL will fund and where council roads as the council insists. The only Cycle Superhighway in Southwark so far is around E&C and then Southwark Bridge Road. As part of this Southwark Bridge Road will become 20mph and that principle will make it even more attractive. I believe the biggest road safety problem in South London is the number of uninsured, untaxed, un MOT'd vehicles. The next biggest problem is speeding by people passing through who start and end their journeys outside Southwark - around half of all the vehciles you see. Then again air pollution largely caused by motor vehicels prematurely kils many Southwark residnts every year. -
Barry Road is a major bus route and TfL buses have and will object to more bumps and such traffic calming. The raised entry treatments around Goodrich Road have caused much distress to some neighbouring properties due to vibrations which are notoriously hard to prove but are very real to the residents and of course once you notice them become insanely annoying. Mini roundabouts cause other dangers and no guarantee that after such long straights people wont plough on through. I think Skidmarks has made a really potentially valuable suggestion. Changing or removing road markings can dramatically change behaviours. So I'll ask council road officers for latest stats and whether we can meet on site to talk about options. Skidmarks could you join us to talk about the example you've given? The other problem is the active speed signs. Apparently the type installed there and on Friern Road are no longer maintainable. So changing them to the newer type that are is something I'll ask officers to investigate.

Camerons plans to reform social housing.
James Barber replied to DJKillaQueen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think you'll find councils can choose what rent they charge upto 80% of the local market rent. I would not exepct any changes in London as the market rents are so very high. I could see changes in council rents in places where the market rent is very low and 'only' beign able ot charge 40% sees ridiculously low rents than mean insufficient money to maintain council properties. Point was made earlier about a Tory leading on Southwark's council housing. This was the main ask of the tories to form a coalition. It seemed to work fine for the first two years but....the background and energy of the cllr involved promised much and the programme was agreed by the whole councillor executive. Just hearing the treacle to get anything done was astounding e. Stock condition report taking so very long and when finally produced showed 65% of Southwark COuncil homes met decent homes standard and not the 54% reproted by council officers. The great news is that councils will keep ALL of the rent they collect and ALL of the monies from any property sales. Unfortunately Southwark Labour instantly announced they'll be aiming to sell 100 properties a year to raise capital. I can understand why but the zeal of this worries me. The flip side is local authorities will have to pay interest on loans they've taken out for council home buildings. Great news that councils can be left to get on managing their finances and then borrow if they choose against council rents. THat is why it is expected that overall 150,000 new council homes will be build. During 13 years of Labour the net increase in council homes was 20,000 homes - less than the number of extra prison cells they built. -

I say southwark - fortnightly bin collections
James Barber replied to Terry Thomas esq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi puzzled, The only method to finance a new ?30M waste site was via Labour PFI. The marignal rate of borrowing at that time was 14% as set by government rules. At that time about 3 years ago a 25year contract was signed with a heavy heart from me. But it was the only show in town. Councils are charged landfill tax. All waste collected by Southwark is charged at ?80 per tonne landfill tax. Keeping the commiercial contracts in place and havign to pay landfill tax wasn't sustianable. The next rise in landfill tax is to ?100./tonne. So selling the bushiness to Veolia was a logical step in the circumstances. Was it worth building barricades over. No. -

hi Southwark Council, How many responses to the survey have you had - would be useful o know how skewed adding two questions in would be.The chances of residents thinking to add specific comments to emulate actually asking the questions is slight. -
Hi ianr, Peckham & Nunhead community Council have a transport sub committee with members from the public. I've attached collissions maps before. Afraid I cna;t find it quickly. On that collission map you could see that relatively few recorded collisions on Barry Road. More on Grove Vale and MANY more on Lordship Lane especially with junction of Northcross Road. Hi DJKilla, I've gone through my paperwork and I have over egged it a bit. Sorry. The original Lib Dem plans were for Lorship Lane but now proposed to spread this across both roads. The proposed Labour wording for the project was "Improved pedestrian crossing provision on Lordship Lane, speed reduction measures on Grove Vale and improved public realm and access to East Dulwich station" and my accpeted amended wording is "Improved pedestrian crossing provision, speed reduction and public realm to Lordship Lane and Grove Vale". I've seen the initial officer proposals and given lots of feedback and have yet to see the new officer proposals.

Proposed cycle superhighway to run down Lordship Lane
James Barber replied to benmorg's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi DulwichMoan, 95% of roads in Southwark are maintained by Southwark Council. Council tax payers contribute around 25% of Southwark Councils funding with remiander coming from central government and effectively redistribute parts of general taxation - income tax, VAT, etc. 5% of roads maintained by Transport for London. Pretty much same ratio with GLA precept paid by residents. The only roads directly paid for by central government are those maintianed by the Highways Agency. We have no Highways Agency roads in Southwark. So whether walking or cycling or driving we're all paying for the roads in Southwark to be maintained. However, only people driving motor vehicles are wearing them out.... -
Hi trentk69, If people don't report collissions then I'm afraid they wont appear in any statistics. Under reporting is higher the less injured people involved are. If you see a collission do report it. Without the right stats very hard for resources to be prioritised on the right location. Hi DulwichMoan, Thankfully zero at this location.

Hi intexasatthe moment, After much searching I found this. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,392950,393268#msg-393268 A couple of posts down is information I found - 5 collissions in 3 years. Extra double yellow lines were installed to improve sight lines, but the collission stats show more crashes on Lordship Lane and Grove Vale and that's where major spending was agreed at the start of the financial year. Some this and most next year. Labour have shifted much of the emphasis to Grove Vale and a colleague cycnically suggested this is because it borders South Camberwell ward which is Labour held.

Hi green bean, The lighting along Greendale meets the same standards as normal residential street - or at least that's what I've been assured. It feels darker and less secure as no private homes bordering it some throwing out light others with activities taking place. Chicken and egg really. Do you put in flood lighting in hope more people use it or accept it is not ideal for dark hours use? -
I say southwark - fortnightly bin collections
James Barber replied to Terry Thomas esq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Trade collections are a private arrangement between the businesses and their waste contractor. Sham that the Sotuh Southwark Business Association (SSBA) have'nt clubbed together all the local businesses as one coordinated contract could make Lordship work better for business recycling and waste collection. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Gimme, The analysis is complete. Bizarre I had to request it but never mind. 86% of all street were in favour of 20mph speed limit - Matham, Ashbourne, Chesterfield, Bassano and Blackwater. Matham, Ashbourne and Chesterfield were in favour of sinusoidal speed humps. But Bassano and Blackwater were not in favour of speed humps. What I proposed was speed humps in Matham, Ashbourne and Chesterfield with 20mph singage and speed limit in all these roads plus Bassano and Blackwater. Chuffed that residents are thinking along the same lines. Weirdly the estimate of the costs of works from December 2009 of ?25,000 to do this has jumped to ?37,000. So I've asked for a detailed breakdown as unsurprisingly the East Dulwoich councillors have budgetted ?25,000. Will keep you posted. -

Hi boomerang, I think what they're suggesting is one big bin at the end of roads that are emptied once a day. So whole areas collected very quickly and easilly via few bins. Sounds sensible proposition. Does anyone have thorough experience of such a scheme - if they do please PM to arrange a chat. -

Boomerang, Great idea. If anyone now has more green wheelie bins than they need then call 020 7525 2000 to have them taken away to be reused. If anyone finds the standard 240 litre green wheelie bin too big they can request a smaller 180 litre green wheelie bin. I was told at a shadow briefing earlier today that wheelie bins cost around ?20ea and blue boxes ?3 ea. I'll ask about replacing the lid with blue ones or big stickers to 'convert' green wheelie bins to blue ones. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
James Barber replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Prickle, I've been told by Sainsbury's that the contact Southwark has been using is wrong and given a different contact by Sainsbury's. Hopefully this is some kind of progress. I'm encouraged not an instant stock answer which hopefully means some thought in a response. Hi Gimme, I was strolling along Matham Grove last Friday and had the same thought. I'll find out about that consultation which seems to have gone very quiet. I've also asked about how Lordship Lane crossings consultation has gone and Northcross Market consultation. -
Fascinating Ladymuck.

Hi Peckhamboy, Trouble with such sections is that people are much less likely to add such comments. So real opportunity missed. Also, worth asking residents how many blue boxes and bags they typically use in a week to give an idea of whether blue wheelie bin might be used long term also which streets seem keener to recycle. I'm sure the questionairre can be improved in other ways as it feels a bit knee jerky at the moment rather than considered. -

James Barber replied to Terry Thomas esq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi 'Southwark Council' Has the recycling feedback qunetioannire been updated as suggested to reflect the responses given on this thread? If not when will it be? Avoiding asking questions about blue wheelie bins and nappies means many qho have views on this wont respond and those that do as adhoc comments wont necessarily see them analysed. so until you have properly produced a surveys desgiend around the users already given feedback I'd hope many would withhold particpating.
