Hi Fuschia, I'm afraid since thek ids grew out of the Peckham Pulse soft play i haven't visited in aq couple of years. Please email me the problem/s and I'll try and help. -
Hi edanna, Northcross Market or no Northcross market parking will always be difficult within a few hundred metres of Lordship Lane on Saturdays. Extending the market from 20 to 30 stalls on a Saturday is unlikely to make a real difference to parking. But perhaps worth highlighting in the conulstation concern about parking. It would'nt take much to arrange for stall holders to park somewhere with less parking pressure a few hundred metres away - perhaps southern end of Darrell Road.

I say southwark - fortnightly bin collections
James Barber replied to Terry Thomas esq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Gussy, I'm asking about big blue wheelie bins to help the pilot and keep it simpler for residents. Hi Bob, Those 'helpful' lesaflets have resulted in some taking 240L wheelie bins when they wanted 23L bins and now trying to swap them. Hi The Nappy Lady, I've asked if properties in the Pilot area could have these vouchers. In 3 days we've had a half a dozen ideas for making the pilot better. Summary from me would be the scheme is overly rushed for no obvious reason other than the pilot will entirely occur during autumn/winter. Even just a couple more months of really consulting interested redidents would have improved the scheme. -

New Grove Vale library In 2005 I spotted that developer had made a Planning Application for 18-22 Grove Vale where the Dulwich Garden Centre is. The scheme look at best dull. Equally the Grove Vale library is two small shops unit poorly linked together. Great library in terms of children?s books etc but poor building to provide library services. So I approached the developer and suggested that if they included a new Grove Vale library their scheme would be more successful. That turned into a long two years working with the developer, council officers and colleagues to incorporate a new 230m2 Grove Vale library which gained planning permission January 2007. Then the recession hit. BANG. All property values slumped but more importantly since then it has become REALLY hard to borrow money. One surveyor told me you can?t borrow money outside London and in London banks expect 35% margins to borrow ie a big cushion just in case. So I?ve had many conversations with the developer about what might be possible. I?ve spoken to Southwark libraries about what could/would work to give a great new library. Various rules around insulation are now much tighter - new part L building regs today, Southwark Core Strategy where all rooms have to be bigger, etc. After a lot of soul searching I?m hopeful we?ve sailed a route which should give us a new 250m2 +50m2 ?winter garden? Grove Vale library. It would be behind a new retail unit at the front with library accessed via a 3 metre wide corridor at the back. The residential flats above would reduce to 21 units. Yesterday I met with the developers team and Southwark Planning officials to witness the hurdles and issues the developer needs to bridge before submitting a full Planning Application. I?m hopefully these wont take long and a scheme can be submitted in November or January. If you have any questions or thoughts about this please get in touch. Hopefully I?ll have some images to share soon. -

Temporary gym. I've had confirmation that the temporary gym aircon has been tweaked to increase the air circulation. They've also add some fans. to be honest not much more they can do while the rest of the centre is renovated. It will be worth the 6 months pain. My next set of queries will be in response to fees. This will take a week or two before I can respond. -

Hi trig, People don't have to have 240litre massive brown wheelie bins. They can have 23 Litre easilly carried bronw bins for food waste. Looking at the leaflets some people might have reached the wrong conclusion they needed wheelie bins. They don't. The pilot should'nt necessarily make the things you've described worse. You might like to explain for some of your neighbours they can have smaller 23 litre bronww bins OR you could suggest sharing one bin amongst several neighbours. -
edited - can't attach 200Kb pdf questionairre. Earlier this week after many many weeks of debate and discussion a survey form was agreed. The administration is proposing to increase the market from officially operating Mon-Sat to be open every day including Sundays. They're also proposing that it increases from 20 to 30 stalls. The East Dulwich Lib Dem councillors views after talking to residents, stall holders and local businesses is that increasing the number of stalls on Saturdays from 20 to 30 or even 40 is something we'd welcome and have been asking about for some time. Opening the market on Sundays we're not keen on as it would mean residents will never get a day of peace. We're also not keen on increasing the numbers of stalls Mon-Fri as the current stall numbers are rarely used and if a higer were they might make the area feel taken over by the market. What do you think? Whether you're a residents, visitor, run a business in ther area we'd like you to either print and complete the quesitonairres or respond online: Northcross Road market survey

It is a shame that green bins were originally chosen for non green rubbish. Idealy world they'd be swapped over but no plans for that. -

If you want to check if your property is in the recycling pilot of weekly food waste collections and fortnightly regualr rubbish collections please follow this link - you wont find it easilly on the Southwark council website as its really well hidden: http://wasteservices.southwark.gov.uk/index.asp My laptop doesn't like it but sure it will work for most people. -

Mrs TP, Southwark has lots andl ots of kitchen caddies. So far 1,000 given out with another 2,000 in stock. So really no effort to distribute these and it will make taking part in the pilot that much easier for you. Hi The Nappy Lady, I'll ask why ?40 vouchers have run out and what is planned. We're only half way through the financial year which runs 1 April to 31 March. that's a long wait. Clearly this would make the pilot go that much better. -

Hi CharlieCharlie, You can appeal to not take part in the Pilot. Call 020 7525 2000 and if you have problems email me for help. OR could you share bins with neighbours? Your description of 1 up 1 down implies houses that probably aren't generating enough waste to warrant a green bins, brown, etc each. Just a thought. If you can take part in the pilot that woudl be great. -

Hi EDmummy, Well yes and no. I received an email late yesterday from Southwark's Head of Music Service. Sadly I didn't know such a post existed. They assured me the division lead officer will be in touch with me about STAX. -

Hi Peckhamham, Ondine Road is in the pilot but is in South Camberwell ward and i only listed the East Dulwich ward streets involved. Hi TheArtfulDogger, Success criteria - if sufficient food waste is diverted from landfil ie. green wheelie bins to brown bins it will be cost neutral. Veolia the contractor will have delivered something they contractually had to deliver in 2014 at their own expense for no cost to themselves now. Southwark has a higher recycling rate. Residents get to help achieve a higher recycling rate now. Pilot areas can show the rest of the borough how brilliant at recycling they are. Hi Smallfry, I can assure you that your recycling gets er...recycled. The new Integrated Waste Management Facility on the Old Kent Road opens in 2011 and will have a visitor centre so you can go and see/find out exactly where all the waste stream go. It was orignally planned ot open this year but when Ken Livingstone was Mayor of London who tried to take over all London's waste which delayed everything until the then government decided against that idea. 18 months lost at the time 6 months recycled. Until you can visit the new waste centre please keep the faith that it is recycled. -

I've just emailed the lead officer about the pilot starting on Monday and got back.....an out of office until......Monday. Peckhamgatecarcher - i'm assured non of the recycling goes to landfill and a contract was agreed this week of where the food waste will be recycled. Please, please, please don't spread such ideas even in jest. EDmummy - evaluation. Currently the total tonnages of recycling and main rubbish is recorded. During the pilot they'll record tonnages for the pilot and the non pilot area. They plan to then calculated the likely original recycling levels by comparing the non pilot lower tonnages with the new non pilot tonnages that covers 10,000 fewer homes. Not highly accurate I suspect but an indication. If more time had been taken some precise pre pilot figures for the pilot area could have been obtained. Phew. As for involving residents no mention so far. To be honest its been hard as a councillor to be involved so far. -

Hi Kestonkid, I'll happilly ask for the big brown bin to be removed and replaced with 23L one. Email me you full address. I'd suggest using the kitchen caddy just in the kitchen else it will get wet being outside on rainy days etc. Hi pebbles, Have asked whether they can be relocated to avoid blocking sight lines. Hi Fuschia, Peckhamgatecrachers, Email me with your full address and I'll plead for you both to have big blue recycling bins. -

Hi Peckhamgatecrasher, Council officers anticipate each home typically needing 100 of th e biodegradeable bags during the 6 month pilot. 50 were meant ot be delivered with the leaflet this week and another 50 in 3 months time. Worrying you've received a triple dose but perhaps they think you have a big family. Would recommend food in the bags then in the brown bins else your brown bins will quickly get smelly. One central gov't recommendation when introducing these schemes is to start them going into winter to reduce initial smells. Eitherway, good habit to use the bags. james. -

Gallery Road is being competely rebuilt and reusrfaced and having kerbs added to both side starting Monday 11 October. Expect severe disruption if you travel via Gallery Road. It will be much better afterwards. I've always thought it strange such a road without kerbs had a nursery school on it. Eitherway, these long held plans will finally come to fruition. Any problems then contact the Conway manager Matt Joel 07919493040 else let me know. james. -

A '6 month pilot' scheme involving 10,000 homes in Southwark starts on Monday 4 October. The pilot involves adding organic waste i.e. food to the weekly recycling collections via 240L, 23L and caddy brown bins and also biodegradeable plastic bags. For non recycling rubbish collections will become fortnightly. This is a big emotive change and frankly looks botched due to ridiculous timescales. The concept is great - we all want to see great recycling but the execution for this pilot is very weak. The pilot was announced about 6 weeks ago and it has been really difficult to get information. I've repeatedly requested a precise list of which properties are in the pilot and this si still not available. Those homes in the pilot should have received a non addressed letter a month ago and another leaflet this week. Hopefully you didn?t miss it! Only 'easy' properties are included - so we have a pilot designed to learn next to nothing as it doesn't attempt to try this extra recycling at properties with less space for extra bins. Clearly many will be surprised come Monday with the letter and leaflet being lost in the general masses of junk mail/leaflets we all receive. To confirm if you?re in or out of the scheme you can call 020 7525 2000 - I was assured people could check this via the web but this is still not up and running. East Dulwich ward street that have properties in the pilot are - Barry Road, Crebor Street, Dunstans Road, East Dulwich Road, Etherow Street, Friern Road, Norcroft Gardens and Upland Road. For those that are in the scheme not all homes on a street are necessarily in the pilot - if council officers felt insufficient room to store a brown bin then you?re not included. So you can expect neighbouring properties to have either weekly or fortnightly ?residial ? rubbish collections - you?ll need to pay close attention! If you have any problems please let me know and I?ll try and help. PS. I've attached a photo of the 23L brown bin, the kitchen caddy and biodegradeable bags. -
