  1. Hi Cassius, It might be that huncamunca is thinking of research undertaken in Bristol. The shop owners there all wildly over estimated the amount of custom that came via car - as they travelled into their shops by car - but the reality was overwhelmingly their customers came on foot, bicycle and bus. So there the shop owners were putting car parking issues above issues related to walking, cycling and those arriving/departing by bus. Ironicially there they were marginalising the vast majority of their custom in the mistaken believe their custoers travelled to their shops as they did by car. Then again he might not!
  2. No plans for residents parknig permits. The entrance has moved 100m round the corner from East Dulwich Road location where you couldn't park on the road. At the planning committee the traffic report was convincing that shouldnt be a problem even with anticipated more users. This weekend with official opening might have had extra parking - but when I visited noon on Saturday lots of spare parking spots. However, one slight rub is that the new Goose Green playground is an attraction in its own right and I know some people drive and park to visit that playground now.
  3. We're fortunate that we have a number of good primary schools in East Dulwich - Goodrich, Goose, Heber, St.Anthony's. All have had issues which seem overcome - the Goose Green KS2 SATs results sound good and I'm looking forward to them being officially published. Wherever you might live on Landells Road you should be fine for local place at one of our local schools.
  4. The strip proposed to tarmac over is down a slope and covered in trees. The road is wide and can take coach parking if all users are careful and considerate. Building on Metropolitican Open Land is a big deal - else by now we'd have no parks or green spaces. The Alleyns Performing arts theatre is the home of National Youth Theatre and I'd guess, as I wasn't on the planning committee for that - that the public good of the NYT was viewed as outweighing the loss of part of a playing field. The coach service avoids many hundreds of car driving individual pupils to this and other school that share the coach service. Last time this topic came up I went and found out how many kids are moved a day and was amazed. The Dulwich Safe Routes to School group, which I've attended as a Southwark Cyclists rep in the past, has promoted walking and cycling to this and all other schools in the area. But the coaches are bringing kids from locations to far to walk or cycle from.
  5. Hi louisiana, Could you email me seperately so I can take your detaield suggestinos to my next meeting with the Director in charge of everything environment in Southwark Council. Hi Gimme, Hugenot, Typically once or twice a week I catch the no.40 bus and have'nt seen the problem described. Perhaps worth PM'ing me times so I can experience it as well. It would be a shame to reduce pedestrian priority at a point with ostructive bridge posts that block views such that people cross without the pelican lights and don't get seen by people coming down the hill. Equally accelerating the numbers through to the Sainsburys' lights, etc and just moving the queue would seem pointless. Show me the problem then I'll happilly talk to council officers. Hi amberwood, Thanks for your suggestions. They might have ot wait until next year as we've had so many already.
  6. I've asked what temperature the pool and changing rooms are at and why so cold. The pool has been full of water for a fortnight to my personal knowledge having visited in advance. So that is nt the reason for the chilly temperature. No real deep end. It makes it easier to teach kids to swim and you can use all of the pool easilly and teachers can stand rather than trying to tred water for 8 hours a day. Temporary gym. It is a pain for 6 months while the rest of the centre is regenerated but it will be worth the short term pain. I've asked why the aircon isn't working.
  7. Hi Lee, Goose Green roundabout is apparently remarkable for the low rate of collissions. Experts can't explain this success.I suspect that due to its tight nature people go slowly. When cycling its a roundabout I don't feel inimidated on. A year ago we had a 3rd zebra crossing added on the northern arm Lordship Lane. Last year we had lots more 'entry treatments' on side roads where the road goes up to be at level with the pavement. STill a few more to go before universal. A scheme of change to Lordship Lane and Grove Vale is again in the pipeline. The one roadblock to this going out to public consultation is Transpiort for London Buses. When a zebra crossing was propsed outside Somerfield/Coop they objected as it would obviously be so popular and hold up buses. We offered various solutions to offset this while improving Lordship Lane further but officers took fright at the bus people concerns. So we're going to have another go - all going well. Assuming bus people see sense we'll shortly have a raft of porposed changes to share publicy.
  8. Council officers have already fed back on the idea of making more time available for kids to swim outside of swim school. The Dulwich Pool timetable for its reopening is based on the previous pool timetable before it closed to be rebuilt/renovated. The swimming lesson/swim school times are on a like for like basis. However, if demand has changed with the dramatically better pool - AND IT REALLY IS MUCH BETTER - then the timetable will evolve to reflect that demand. Frankly the old pool wasn't somewhere you'd go for leisure swimming. The new pool absolutely is. So if you have ideas abotu the pool post them here. Hi karter, The gym will be temporarily relocated into the new studios made with the pool redevelopment. New entrance on Crystal Palace Road. Hope you like it.
  9. Can we all concentrate on celebrating a brilliantly revamped Dulwich Pool. Council officers and contractors have done a really great job giving us the facility ex.Cllr Richard Thomas, Cllr Jonathan Mitchell and I envisaged back in 2005. I think the timetable does need tweaking so that kids can go for a swim after school. That should'nt get in the way of adults swimming when they're likely to swim. This is a win win and this pool is for ALL the community.
  10. Latest on proposed new street trees in East Dulwich ward - see attached. Any thoughts let me know.
  11. Dulwich Pool opened this morning at 6.30am. This weekend 25/26 is the first weekend it opens and I'm told will have lots of fun activities. Kids swimming. I'll ask what can be done with the timetable.
  12. Please see latest Dulwich Park Friends newsletter.
  13. eater81, Your suggestions of bribery and corruption amongst local councillors is extremely rude and unhelpful to helping HHVD. The land HHVD sits on is Metropolitan Open Land and legally very protected from development. Any decision about this land has to go to the main planning committee and if contrary to the principles of MOL the Secretary of State. The issue in my mind is the current accesses to the site are insufficient to keep the level of coming and going needed to make the site financially feasible and prosper. Unlocking cyclings potential for this site is about unlocking better access. Plus of course negotiating a long lease with the Dulwich Estate who in my mind have been patient landlords for over 100 years.
  14. indeed. Also if they don't find somewhere to send the organic waste in time it'll go to landfill which would destroy people's trust in the pilot and more generally.
  15. Hi chrisz, The gym is being located for the duration of the gym refurbishment works into the new studios around the renovated pool.
  16. Hi edanna, As I feared. I've formally sent a letter to the lead officer trying to get precise answers to which properties are included and the rationale, copies of materials/letters/guidance that have been sent to properties, details of the treatment arrangement for the organic materials. Can you please PM or better email me tellign me your address so I can check whether you are in the scheme or not. The deadline for requesting green caddies to transfer waste from kitchen to brown bins was last Friday apparently.
  17. 4 October a pilot change to recycling and rubbish collection starts. Attached is the only information I've received so far on who and where it will affect. Basic premise is recycling is still every week but organic matter will be also be collected. All other rubbish will be collected fortnightly. The dreaded fortnightly colelctions - this shouldn't be an issue if the organic waste process and collections work well. One unresolved issue is no disposal contract of the collected organic waste yet...tihs really worries me as the pilot will disintegrate if people find all their collection efforts are in vain. Until I find out a lot more please feel free to email me with any concerns or issues. We absolutely increase the recycling rate but this pilot is very rushed without any consultation and has lots of potential to go wrong. So any problems please let me know right away so we can keep it working. Disappointed that the pilot hasn't included any blocks of flats as they'll be the biggest challenge with most to learn.
  18. We had an attempted break in two years ago and managed to repel them. Sight of my naked body charging them freaked them out and they ran away. The crime prevention advice we had was keep hedges no higher than waist height as any higher and burglars can work un observed. Agent Orange had nothing on me after that experience and advice. Hope the Police have offered lots of support and crime prevention advice to you and your neighbours and free property marking kits. If not please PM me.
  19. Hi SteveT, Fruit trees are lovely where they're over grass or other surfaces that don't go skiddy when the fruit lands and gets pulped under feet. We've had several planted at the southern end of Friern Road on a triangle of grass.
  20. If you spot pot holes call 020 7525 2000 and report them. If the pot hole is deeper than 40mm then the council has a duty to ensure it is repaired within 24hours - sually a messy patch but patched is better than unpatched. You migt want to work with Southwark Cyclists and make a list for this road and submit en masse.
  21. To wet your appetite and again apologies for the foreground 'interest'..... 078 taken in the pool at a slightly different angle. 079 taken of the reception area. Apologies for blocking the picutres quite so much.
  22. Hi Weegee, Unfortunately not. I do school drop of on Fridays.
  23. Hi tommy, Yes, creche and softplay and cafe and viewing area.
  24. Attached photo of the inside of the new Dulwich Pool. Afraid the three ED councillors as foreground interest. Shows white pool cover to keep as much heat in the water as possible when the pool isn't in use. New insulated roof. New latterns and uplighters. It looked fab last week when photo taken with what appeared trivial details in reception area left to complete - taking plastic covers of the recptionist seat, etc. Only three more days until it reopens.
  25. Council officers have assured me that extra patrols on Dunstans Road will now take place and anti dog poo stencilling of the pavement will be put in.
