  1. For Dulwich Hamlet to disturb residential neighbours is quite a feat. The nearest homes to the club house are over 100m away. That must be some noise THEY are allowing to happen by private parties. Either way if the eivdence is collected that they are breaching their licence then a licence review should be called and potentially they'll lose their licence if they have been proven to be unable to run a proper business. It is a basic human right to have a fmaily life undisturbed by others. Lots of evidence that intrusive noise leads to increased mortality, lower achievement, etc. If you are being dustrubed keep a noise diary and call 020 7525 2000 every time. Don't be a silent victim and please don't see posting on this forum as alternative to fixing the problem once and for all.
  2. Hi cazkid, For several years residents have complained about the illegal and intimatory car parking taking place there. It has beenreally tricky to get progress resolving these very local problems. So these cameras will be an attempt to bring semblence of order without endangering Parking Enforcement officers or puting residents in position where they feel exposed for their own safety. My expectation they will be mix of covert and overt smart car CCTV. If you wish to talk further about this then please email me.
  3. IF you are distrubed by noises you believe to be unreasonable then you should call the Southwark Council noise hotline 020 7525 2000. It operates 24/7/365 and the noise team expect to be on site within 45minutes to hear the noise themselves from your home. The more people that make a complaint about a particular noise problem the higher up the priorities to attend in person. If you have repeated disturbances you should make a noise diary recording all the details of every incident. Quite possible that everytime the noise team attend the noise has gone by the time they arrive. Hence the importance of a noise diary. If a premises repeatedly breaches it licence then it will lose it licence. If this service fails you in anyway please tell me.
  4. For the last four years, May 2006 - 2010, the East Dulwich councillors Richard Thomas, Jonathan Mitchell and myself have provided two face to face surgeries per month except August and xmas week. I remember my first surgery well. A dozen angry residents turned up with an awful lot of angst built up over some time. I was delighted to help them and being my first piece of juicy casework have a soft spot for the residents of Halliwell Court. However, during that period the numbers turning up to face to face surgeries have declined. Every year we?ve hand delivered to every home in East Dulwich a surgery card detailing where and when we?re available to meet face to face without an appointment with a little map of where to find us. Quite regularly we now don?t have a single person attending. So after a lot of soul searching we?re changing. This rethink is partly as it?s a new four year period with Rosie Shimell joining us and Richard Thomas standing down. From now on we?re going to hold one face to face surgery session in East Dulwich - the 4th Thursday of each month (excepting August and xmas) at the East Dulwich Community Centre on Darrell Road. However we?ll be adding two mobile surgeries a month where we go knocking on residents doors, having alerted them we?ll be doing this with a letter in the preceding week. We'll also be available as ever for arrange visits for face to face meetings. As ever we?re also available to receive casework, problems, ideas by email, phone calls, letters and facebook. Emails are quite often the quickest way for us to help you but all are effective.
  5. Hi louisiana, The recession has not been good for that scheme. I'm due to call the developers and will do so today.
  6. I've PM'd several people that are saying they've had fuel stolen. They've told me that they haven't reported it to the Police. It really is crazy to moan about theft on this forum but not be bothered to report it. If you genuinely are bothered by such a theft then please report it to the Police AND THEN tell people on this forum.
  7. Annoying. I'll ask the project officers to get them fixed if possible.
  8. Hi Southwark Council, Not sure why you've given an update about Camberwell Baths on the EDF on a thread about Dulwich Baths. The ?200,000 sum was announced in May added to the previous ?3M and now in August it's been announved this ?200,000 has caused four months delay to the reopening. Does not compute for me but hay ho at least we know that one will now reopen in February (ish).
  9. Council Housing is subsidised in several ways. All councils run seperate Housing Revenue Accounts. The bulk of Southwark Councils debt, around ?500M of it, was borrowed to build council housing in the 60's and 70's. The interest on this is mostly paid for by central government. The interest rates are around 14% on average last time I looked reflecting when it was borrowed and the bizarre treasury mechanism the loans are taken out under. Council tenants don't pay towards these debts or interest payments which are covered from central taxation. Equally grants from central government towards the running costs. Gradual moves to eliminates these subsidies and the rents rise to around the Housing Association rent levels. Under occupation. When the Lib Dems ran the council we introduced a scheme to encourage people to downsize. This was successful. Last year we changed tenancy agreements so that council tenants could only pass down tenancy to one subsequent generation. It had previously been two. David Cameron's suggestions and thoughts on council tenancies. They're not part of the coalition agreement and are therefore just his personal views and not the administrations views. Such views were never expressed in either parties manifestos so he has no political mandate for them and he certainly has no Lib Dem agreement for them to be anything more than his hot air. A far bigger issue for our society is tax cheating which is x10 the size of benefit fraud. With such a huge budget deficit getting to grips with tax cheats would help. It would also send the message we're all in this together.
  10. I've had a query about how to arrange commemorative benches in Dulwich Park. Attached is the policy which I suspect applies to other Southwark parks.
  11. If you have problems and get stuck or find the going tough get in touch with a local councillor. For East Dulwich that's either Rosie Shimell, Jonathan Mitchell or myself.
  12. Had a PM about whether Southwatk Library services could email confirmation of ordered books being ready for collection. I'm assuered that this service is being developed and after testing all recorded emails via a Libraries bulletin will be rolled out. no timescales yet but on the way. eBooks. Southwark Libsry services are keeping an eye on how borrowing eBooks is working in Bexley, Bromley and Cryodon where eBooks can be booked. Due to restriction no service via Amazon Kindle is possible by the iPaq is possible.
  13. I've not agreed with everything DJKillaQueen has said in the past but she is spot on with this. Unfettered operation of premises would lead to a wild west scenario. No one would invest in their homes or small businesses for fear of the next unlicensed premise opening up next door or across the road. Licensing leads to some certainty for residents and businesses. They know that their investment is partly protected from others opening up and the capital investment to get it right.
  14. This site is in South Camberwell ward. It seems clear this premise is breaching its licence. You can contact the licensing department via the following email [email protected] and complain giving examples of the issues. I'd recommend you copy in the local South Camberwell Police Safer Neighbourhood Team [email protected] so they appreciate local concerns and potentially ask them to make it one of their priorities.
  15. As mentioned before, and I posted a collision hotspot map, the collision data for East Dulwich shows Lordship Lane broadly between Northcross Road and Goose Green roundabout to be where most collissions occur on our patch. Improving sight lines can help but can also make drivers feel able to drive faster. We've had sight lines improved along Barry Road with double yellow lines and the collision rates I'm told have gone down but not eliminated. Hence this thread. I'll be concentrating my efforts planned improvements to Lordship Lane until lthe measures taken on Barry Road have had a chance ot settle down.
  16. Friern Road between Etherow and Goodrich will be closed to through traffic on 31 August to allow for Portacabins to be installed in St.Antonys School. Presume this is related to it taking a bulge half class in September. I've attached the notice which gives an alternative route from planet mars which I'll ask officers to correct.
  17. Hi Vickster, Apologies for missing your query. Underhill Road cuts through or acts as the border for three wards - East Dulwich, Peckham Rye and College wards. Eitherway, full speed humps, rather than the current speed cushions, would be far more effective at slowing traffic until such time that average speed cameras are type approved for such a road and 2mph speed limit and any fines are used to fund them. I'm afraid with the Tories in the national coalition are petrol heads and a real 'line in the sand' issue for them is cameras. To compound things its the P13 bus route and buses and full humps really don't mix. Apart from the bus cmpanies and TfL objecting when humps proposed where we have big raised areas at junctions e.g. Barry Road with Goodrich Road neighbouring houses often get signficant jarring as buses and lorries go over them. What to do? Can you please email me your details and where the collission outside your house took place. I'll then follow this up by asking for collission data for Underhill Road and report back to you and more generally on this thread. It might be possible to change kerb alignments, chicanes, etc to relieve the problem.
  18. Just been told that Camberwell Baths reopening has slipped by 4 months to Feb 2011. It closed November 2009 and was due to open this Autumn. Reason given is that extra ?200,000 added in May to ?3M budget which sounds implausible reason to add 4 months delay. Can't be bad weather. No vandalism or burglary. Inexplicable.
  19. Hi tiger ranks and TonyQuinn, Barry Road/Underhill Road junction - from memory last autumn I ask council officers to look at collission stats for this junction. I met with them and they talked me through their analysis. The common theme was visibility. So they recommended changing single yellow lines to double yellow lines to reduce parked vehicles blocking sight lines. This was approved by local councilors at the Dulwich Community Council and implimented. Since that time I don't believe any further collissions have occurred. If you both feel it has'nt solved the issue I'm happy to reconfer with council officers about any further collission data. Barry Road/Lordship Lane - funds were made available to review this junction. I can't spot any changes. The removal of bendy buses November 2011 will reduce the frequency of buses blocking the junction. At the next Dulwich Community Council meeting 16 September such traffic and transport issues will be discussed and the lead officer will be present.
  20. Hi giggirl, Appliying for Planning Permission and still waiting in August is ridiculous. Can you email me direct, give me your full contact details, planning app reference/no., case officers and I'll contact the head of planning to ask about your case. Hi beaver14uk, I'm sure the bendy buses will be sold on a strong second hand bus market in the UK. Hi ruffers, Southwark council are rthe highway authority for that part of Lordship Lane and the utility and their contractors digging up the road will have had to explain the traffic management actions associated with the works. IF two way traffic could 'just' get by it will be signalised as the uncertainty you imply will potentially imperill people working within the conned/barriered areas. Please email me if I'm of the mark.
  21. I've just been told by council officers that the new reception area and pool will open the weekend 25/26 September. Sneak preview for councillors, etc 23 September. Frustrating that its slipped a week in a week, but guess this is worknig out the final timetable and frankly just relieved it now booked. Get you cossie's and towerls ready East Dulwich.
  22. I've reported the following tree pits that need refilling with soil: 68 Silvester Road 14, 48 Pellatt Road 1, 3, 15, 29, 2, 74, 78 Rodwell Road 87, 91, 97, 117, 121, 127, 78, 128 Landcroft Road 15, 21 Whateley Road 27, 55, 127, 135, 163, 52, 56, 74, 138, 142, 158, 162 Landells Road 37, 131 Melbourne Grove Between 66 East Dulwich Grove and 61 Melbourne Grove (on Melbourne Grove) If you know of any more please let me know.
  23. East Dulwich station is to have a new shelter for passengers on the platform that serves trains into London Bridge - it'll be about 2/3rd of the way along from the entrance toward North Dulwich. See attached for picture of an example of the shelter. The East Dulwich councillors allocated Cleaner, Greener, Safer funds to match the train company.
  24. Yesterday in good faith I gave an update that the tower would be handed over tomorrow morning. I've just been told by council officers that the contractor hasn't completed the final adjustments and is unable to state they've finished all the work. The contractors have also failed to water the grass over the last few weeks. Farcical. Hopefully my next update will be more positive.
