  1. OK, this thread made me laugh so I'll add my 2 pence worth. I've told my family that I want my body to do to a medical school so future doctors can practice whatever they need to practice to become doctors. I will be long gone (hopefully) at that stage so my mortal remains might as well be useful! I believe they then cremate the remains when they are done and give them back to the family. I said that they can then scatter my ashes under a lovely tree that they'd like to visit. Bottom line is that I will be well & truely gone so I'd like my remains to be as useful as possible. It is more emotive for those left behind so the more they know about what you'd like the easier it will be for them. Write a will! Make everything clear. It will make a difficult time easier.
  2. I did a wine tasting at ToastED with my sister and it was great. We tried 6 wines from Spain and the guy (sorry forgot his name) giving the tasting was very good. The group was small, 6 ppl, and interesting. A great stocking stuffer voucher!
  3. Has anyone tried the latest pop-up at Platform 1 on Lordship Lane? Wanted to know if it was worth trying. Thanks
  4. hi there is one in Camberwell, think it is in the arches on Camberwell Station Road, off of Camberwell New Road. Sorry can't find the details.
  5. Hi just posted a recommendation for a local joiner, Stephen Guest 07949 788313, http://www.stephenguestjoinery.co.uk/ and he can do double glazing in traditional wooden sash frames.
  6. Hi, yes can recommend Stephen Guest, 07949 788313, http://www.stephenguestjoinery.co.uk/. He is local and does a lovely job. And does a fab job putting in double glazing in original sash frames.
  7. hi, before I came across this thread, I posted an updated request for feedback that I received today (http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1590212)
  8. Hi, got an email from Southwark which you might be interested in. Dear Resident/Customer, The planning division is taking part in a Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) pilot aimed at making public notices, including public consultation on planning, more accessible and attuned to the new ways people consume information in the 21st century. You will find more information on this pilot via the following link: 21st Century Notices.(http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200074/planning_and_building_control/3848/21st_century_notices_pilot_project) We would like to further understand your needs and preferencesregarding consultation on planning applications following an earlier survey in June 2015. We are particularly interested in your views on the recent improvements on the consultation process, including changes made to site notices, neighbour consultation letters, online planning register and submitting comments online. The survey should take up to ten minutes to complete and all responses are anonymous. Please feel free to pass the survey on to others interested in participating. 9. thanks for that & thanks to OP for posting here as wouldn't have seen it on dedicated DH thread
  10. Sounds good, what time is the game and do you just show up or should tickets be bought in advance (online I'm guessing?)? Thanks
  11. Ate at Pedlers last night and we had a great meal. The team there are so friendly & enthusiastic. $ of the 6 dishes were great, 1 was very good and 1 was disappointing (but to be fair we decided afterwards that none of us was a big celeriac fan to start with so maybe not the best choice to have made!). The various gin drinks we tried were lovely. All in all a lovely time, well worth going to. Loved the cosy "snug" which is tucked in an alcove and all wallpapered/painted a dark green colour. Lovely place to sit if you are a party of 6.
  12. Could we please have better lighting along Champion Hill and the Champion Hill estate walking down towards Sainsburys? Lots of us walk from Denmark Hill Station down towards ED, cutting through the estate and the lighting is really poor when it is dark!
  13. Ended up going to Rosie's (near Peddlers) and had a very good coffee there. Will try FIF soon though!
  14. Hi, where do you teach and what do you charge? Thanks
  15. Hi, does anyone know if Fabulous Ice Fires serves good coffee? Need to meet someone near there this afternoon and wondered where to suggest. Thanks!
  16. Hi, we used the HSBC bank on Lordship Lane but when I went in recently they had closed the business banking section. However they have one in the HSBC in Camberwell so easy to get to. I believe the 1st year was free banking. V straight forward and I mostly use online banking services. Hope that helps!
  17. Sorry Cedges but it isn't really user error when the link to online appts isn't on the appointments page. If you've been with the practice for a while then you don't usually read all the home page you just look for the heading appropriate for your needs, in my case it was appointments. No I don't want them spending excessive money on peripheral things but skimping on major items also isn't good. It doesn't take much to have the information on the right page. Anyway by 10am all on-line appts had been taken.
  18. Hi James, I just tried to see if I could book online but found it rubbish because when you click on appointments it says: -------------------- Appointmentssteth_pills_diary We operate an appointments based system. Patients can book on the day or in advance to suit their needs. From January 2014 we will be operating a Clinical Triage system in advance of offering patients an appointment to ensure you get to see the right clinician and also, where possible, reducing the need to have a face to face consultation. You can make an appointment by calling us on 020 8693 2727 We suggest that you phone at any time after 8.00am. If you cannot get through immediately please try later in the morning when phones are less busy. With our new systems in place we do hope to be able to give you appointments on the same day without the need of coming in and queuing at the door. We offer appointment times in early morning from 8.00am and evening until 7.00pm. These slots are primarily for commuters. Pharmacists and Nurses You may find that an appointment with one of our Practice Nurses, Prescribing Pharmacists or Health Care Assistants may help you get to the care you need faster. Keeping your appointment Please be sure to arrive at least 5 minutes before your appointment time to avoid disappointment. Also, please be aware that, depending on the cases being dealt with, our clinicians may run late. We ask that you bear with us. If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else. To cancel your appointment dial 0208 693 2727 and then press 1. We lose up to 50 appointments per week from patients failing to attend. ------------------- No where there does it mention booking online so unless someone knows that you can book online you would wait to call at 8am or walk there and queue. Really not fit for purpose and I use websites for everything. I also agree with the posters above, this is a big business that needs a proper web designer to assess and improve their website. Cutting corners by having a mickey mouse website is not good enough and does not show proper cosideration & care for their patients.
  19. Very rarely is there an organised gift from the class so I usually give a bottle of Prosecco (figure they need it by the time the year is finished!) & a card. I got a great card from this years Artist Open House (from 45rpm@notonthenet ). The cards are real vinyl singles made into cards and you pick an appropriate song. I got Tina Turner "Simply The Best" : )
  20. Like some have said it does depend on you, your children & your circumstances. We decided to stay but have friends who left. Most chose between the Harpenden area or Tunbridge/Tonbridge areas. Some are happy, others regret the move. One thing some hadn't realised was that the Kent grammer schools only take 20% of the children going into secondary school. That's a LOT who don't get into the grammer schools and the comprehensives are not great. You also have to factor in a LOT of chauffering your children everywhere. There seems to be a lot of alcohol & drug taking but I think that is more a factor of children with access to money more then location. There is no easy or clear cut answer so everyone has to weigh up the factors that are important to them, it is just important to go in with your eyes open.
  21. Hi if you are looking for builders to do a large job we used Valdex for a big renovation job (recommendation posted on the forum). Their name is Valdex and number is 07793 540306 PM me if you'd like more details.
  22. Hi our builders were great. Gutted the entire ground floor (insulated, underfloor heating, new electrics, plumbing, kitchen etc. They also gutted & did our 2 bathrooms. I used a separate specialist door company that were great. Posted a recommendation for them after they did all the work. PM me if you want specifics or to get more details. The builders name & number is Valdex 07793 540306. The door company is SKG and their number is 20 3121 1000.
  23. We always use Matt Smith because he is very good. His number is 07503 251746.
  24. We've used Steve for various appliances (freezer, oven, washing machines) over the past 4 years and he's always been efficient, effective & friendly. When our freezer went on the blink (my fault for not closing the door properly!) on Friday evening I texted him and he replied back right away with how to fix it. Now, 3 days later it is back in service better then ever. Thank you Steve, you are a star!!!!!
  25. Hi, I know it is just outside the area you specified but you might be interested in talking to the Bellenden Residents Association. Its been going for years and is well established. Their website is http://www.bellenden.net/brg
