  1. I?m curious. The demand for nursery places in ED is off the charts which is going to have to be met somehow, some day. There are local nurseries with literally hundreds on their waiting lists. Exactly where would this vital provision go if not here? The nursery we used was very successful in persuading people not to use their cars, and that was well before the nightmare of road closures happened. There is no way anyone is going to want to drive to this location at drop off and pick up times unless forced at gunpoint so I genuinely cannot see what the issue is.
  2. If you're west of LL, you'll probably get one. If you're east you won't.

They've done a bang up job of dividing the area right into two.

That and created havoc with their closing of a dozen roads in a child-like experiment to see what happens when you halve the available space for traffic flow. And after they inexplicably carpeted the area with unnecessary yellow lines to reduce parking spaces by 10%.

Why would Southwark have a user-friendly website when they are clearly the community's sworn enemy?

    Good luck living here.

  3. While excessive use of bins is hardly going to make you popular, there really is no alternative on busy streets when you're expecting a skip, removal van or heavy deliveries. The council will not give you official permission to block a space unless it's a suspendable bay or you're a utility. That's another privilege people in the CPZ get.
  4. People kept saying that apocalyptic predictions were overblown. And yet GG, EDR and LL are now at a near permanent standstill. I can't park within 5 streets of my house unless I do it at midnight, and the vicious hell the council saw fit to visit upon us people on the east side of LL has come to pass.

And just for good measure, they close Melbourne Gv. As if people there weren't rich enough they now get a council-sponsored quiet neighbourhood which should be good for ?100k. After me, 'All in this together' 😀

  5. As others have pointed out, I'm really looking forward to what happens when all schools are back come September. I doubt the website will be able to cope with the fury. All these measures are taken by some utopian lunatic with no thought to the resulting pressures and the assumption that everyone is just gagging to hop on a bike. Not everyone is able-bodied. People have children. They come with a lot of baggage. More if they're disabled. Some people have heavy equipment they need for their work. Are they supposed to stick that in a rucksack? And even assuming people are at some point to return to public transport, the links into ED are nothing short of appalling at the best of times. Asking people to swap a twenty minute car journey for an hour on a bus is completely nuts.

It's laudable to have a vision for the future of city life but there need to be viable alternatives in place or in the pipeline when the revolution starts otherwise you're just asking for chaos. September.. put it in your diary.

  6. At a time when we're being discouraged from using public transport, it's stupifyingly moronic to bring these measures in now.

Seems to me the only beneficiaries are the already wealthy property owners of Melbourne Gv and Calton Ave. And while we're on the subject, how is it that the wealthiest streets in the area always have perfect, freshly laid pavements and road surfaces? Just asking.
